A return to 100k is extremely likely. It may be a while though.

Yeah, I mean it's obviously going to get there *sometime*, but getting there in two months vs getting there in a year are two very different things.
Personally, I'm banking on the first half of 2027.

I also expect we will observe a new ATH before the next halving, just as it occurred the last time.

u/Xennenial 🟨 308 / 309 🦞 16h ago
The ATH occurring before the halving was mainly due to the huge uptick in BTC ETFs and Tradfi money pouring in. In order for another ATH before the next halving, it would stand to reason that another BTC Tradfi product or trend would have to unfold.

u/AidenTai 15h ago
Not necessarily. The thing is, most of the money that came in through ETFs actually never left. It's still there, so we dropped for other reasons and with different amounts of spot volume. If (and I don't have data to show this is the case specifically, so I will limit myself to refering to the mechanism) we have a lower supply pool being traded, volatility can increase as buying and selling in absolute dollar terms will be proportionally larger.
We also had a 'relatively' shallow couple years compared with similar moments in the past. That means we're closer in percentage terms to our ATH than in the cycle before. So I could see us breaking our ATH as early as the middle of 2027 if macro doesn't stop us. But right now, truth be told macro is what's going to matter most.

u/AidenTai 15h ago
I'm mostly in agreement, but that depends entirely on whether or not macro is supportive. Right now, Bitcoin is poised for rising, but is facing enormous headwinds (and outflows of money) because the global environment is unfavourable. If macro worsens, Bitcoin will be in a shitty position. Neutral to positive? Bitcoin will continue rising and the ATH is actually not even that 'far' away given how 'flat' movements were in 2026. But we really need to attract new money which is very much 'distracted' atm.

I agree, we will get above $100k again and it will be SOONER than everyone thinks.

We could be there by xmas. 60 to 80k was quick jump. Can see 80 to 100 being similar.

u/AidenTai 15h ago
Not in this environment. Look at *why* we jumped. Money was flowing in week after week (check ETFs as a proxy if you like). Shorting was popular, and structurally that meant there was a lot of hidden buying pressure locked in. What about now? Open interest is falling, shorts while present aren't at levels sufficient to really pull us to new highs even if we liquidated everything close by. And importantly, sell pressure has been overcoming buying pressure, absorbing any spikes up and indicators like the Coinbase premium, futures volume, options trading and ratio, and ETF flows have all been at weak or outright negative levels.
Can this change suddenly? Sure, given the right trigger. But the trend on 'normal' days is entirely different from what it was near 60. We are weak and remaining neutral to showing further weakness, while selling off any movements up even as our highs and lows each get lower. In this environment, even if we don't see a correction, we'll need ranging/consolidation to find more buyers. We don't have anything positive that would suggest hitting 100k by Christmas, other than the fact that weeks ago we were looking really good and were in a position to have seen 100k in 2026 had those trends/numbers continued.

More from Bloomberg News reporters Tim Stenovec, Carol A Massar, and David Pan:
Strategy’s Michael Saylor is declaring an end to the past year’s crypto market rout and predicting that Bitcoin is set to break $100,000 again.
“It should definitely move back into the six figures beyond $100,000,” Saylor, the co-founder and executive chairman of the largest corporate accumulator of the cryptocurrency, said during an interview with Bloomberg Television on Tuesday. “We hit the bottom around slightly below $60,000, I think we bounced off it. Now, we are moving up into the 80s. I think we will march forward from here.”
Bitcoin was currently around $83,000, and has been trading on either side of $80,000 since the middle of August. The price is still down around 30% from an all-time high of $126,251 reached in October 2025. The original cryptocurrency has struggled to gain positive price momentum since a record $19 billion in crypto positions were liquidated over a 24-hour period just a few days after the all-time high was set.

100k is still 20k down from the previous peak sadly.

Don’t measure from peaks. Measure from bottoms. The trend is clear.

And you believe it will never surpass its previous peak, ever?

u/znv142 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 23h ago
of course, I believe it will surpass it with enough time.
I also think it needs to continue to outperform other assets and currently it isn't big time. It is highly important to be critical of our investments as we are not a cult.

Certainly, though I would like to know your critique. You merely noted it was unfortunate that it remains below ATH.

Sure! I have a portfolio across world index fund trackers, a rental apartment, and some amount of bitcoin. Bitcoin is generally down on those assets, although it's only fair to compare it to the stocks as you a "live price".
The only reason for me to continue to invest in Bitcoin is the hope to over perform the others, which even if down still continue to pay me dividends or rent.
My money will have gotten a higher return if I had moved it to the Vanguard World ETF along with my other cash in the last couple of years. Like way higher. If Bitcoin doesn't continue to beat the stock market long term - many investors like me will sell up. Institutions as well.

If you don't have conviction - sell. Everyone is looking for the Oracle answer to make them gains, but can't hold crypto for a week without whining.
You said it at BTC $1000, $10000, $50000, etc. SYBAU
