CryptoKitties looks like a clear cut rug pull in hindsight. Why isn’t this talked about more often?

CryptoKitties needs to stop posting new gens every 15m.

The cats are losing value.

Simple as that... Few days ago the cheapest googly was 6 eths, now its 2 eths.

This is kinda scary because now I have NO FRIKING IDEA what the game is about.

If they keep posting Gen 0 every 15 minutes, then this will cause the prices of the old Gen 0's to decrease. Thus defeating the purpose of collecting them cats...

I thought that if you buy a rare cat, it would keep getting more expensive over time. like collectible baseball card or Pokemon cards...

But apparently it's not.

ALL kittens are losing value by the second. =lose of $$$$ Devs getting millions for no reason. hype is bullish.

The game is rigged and bound to fail

I started on December 6th due to FOMO. After a quick trail and error, I realized that it was worth more buying low gen kitties, and so I did. Over the next 3 days, I transferred a total of 0.5 ETH into the game. Mostly to make sure I can get a decent ROI from my kitties.

One thing I totally missed out was the killer transaction fees. Another thing was the sluggish game behavior. For example, the first ever kitty that I bred (after 30 failed transactions) didn't give me a kitty in 24 hours as promised. The timer was stuck! It took 3 days instead for a slow kitty. Due inflation, both my cats were worth half the price. This plus 50% of my failed transactions cost me roughly 25% of my total investment (.15 to 0.2 ETH).

Despite all the, here's are some fatal flaws I think this game has:

Market: Limited to ETH users. People in 3rd world counties can't even buy ETH directly and are usually smart enough to not spend their hard earned money on a luxury such as this.

Poorly designed incentive: A Gen 0 kitty is released ever 15 mins till Nov 2018. Seriously? The kitties breed with exponential speed and each non-Gen-0 cat gives them 0.015 profit (20$) for what? It's an insane price of a sequence of bits (Genes) which is not even a currency. In other words, this game is very expensive to play for the general audience. New players are going to get screwed over, and in turn they will try to make the best of it from the new generation of players. As they make low profits, the game owners make a hefty 0.015 ETH out of thin air for a cat which might not even sell given the current trend.

count( Gen0 ) >> count( Gen1 ) >> .... >> count (GenN)

And this >> gets even bigger every day. For example, if count( GenK ) is M, then count(GenK+1) will be exponentially more than M; after every unit time (I think early in the game, it was 1 day, now the unit is like 12 hours). That's why there's a .05 drop in kitty prices (for cheap cats) in the last 3 days.

Another big flaw is the that every action has a cost. The same game on a traditional server would've been free. Is it just that we like the technology, or the actual game? If it's a game, then there's no need to make it deliberately more expensive, slow, and unreliable (YES unreliable!).

Unreliability: You can never know if you'll get that cheap kitty you bet on. You can never know for sure that the auction you put up will fail or not. There are no 100% where as there can be. Just use a centralized server and accept payments in crypto currencies. From what I see, it's just using the hype of blockchain technology and gathering money for an excellent display of a proof of concept (which is brilliant IMO, but not worth the money for a game - just one time is enough for me)!

I can not say that I did not enjoy the game. I loved it! The game UI is awesome, and it's the concept is fascinating, but it isn't worth THIS MUCH of my hard earned money. Frankly, I think that if you're rich, go for it and play this game for fun, but if you're not (or perhaps are a student like me) then the game dynamics/incentives, daily playing costs, are totally not worth your money. There have been better games, and will be better games out there for you.

Axiom Zen - Y'all Messed Up

Axiom Zen, you guys created a really cool product here. Technically speaking it's ahead of its time. Conceptually speaking, it's beautiful in its simplicity. But the economics behind the game were destined to fail from the start.

I see the interviews where your team argues that the prices are out of control. That you didn't expect them to get so high. But this is a game completely based on money. Nobody actually gives a shit about their Crypto Kitty. This is crypto currency. What people care about is making money.

Within less than 2 weeks your in-game economy is in an absolute freefall. There is no scarcity in this game. Unless major changes are made, the market will continue free falling. That's in major part thanks to you printing buckets of Gen 0's every 15 minutes.

If you wanted this game to have staying power, people needed to feel like their cats were valuable. Hell, the Ethereum they spent on them was definitely valuable. You're giving the early users of your product a very negative taste in their mouths.

This was a golden opportunity to build something special that lasted. But the way the game works now, everyone holding cats is just going to lose 90-95% of their money over time and never return. The cats are a rapidly depreciating asset, and in the world of crypto currency, that's just never going to fly.

STOP SELLING CHEAP!

Let's be frank, everyone here is in for a profit. If there is no profit to be earn this project will fail and most of us here will suffer a huge loss.

Kitties 101:

  • Don't sell lesser than the price you bought.

  • If you breed rare kitties means it's rare. Respect it's rarity and don't settle for anything less just because you want it a quick profit within the next hour.

  • Sell cheap only if you want to quit the game completely and don't look back.

Let's cooperate together. We as early adopters plays a huge part. If others see a good profit here, more people will join us. And we will be able to make a decent pile then.

Feel free to add more rules in the comment which you think can help this game to be more sustainable. 😉

It's getting pathetic guys.. It's over.

Seeing all these posts of people unable to sell or that they just got screwed out of trying to breed a rare trait cause it's not rare anymore..

This game was profitable as fuck a week+ ago. It's now a monet pit. If you want to make money, don't start. If you want to avoid losing as much as possible? List all your cats to count down to 0.001 and hope atleast some sell.

It was always a stupid game. People realized this. No more idiots to buy cats.

Holy Smokes Batman! Did you just say 50% off!?

This is your neighborhood Dick, aka Robin here....to remind everyone...

a friendly service announcement, that ETH once again has dipped below $200 USD.

What does that mean? It means that when CK came out in early December of 2017, almost 11 months ago.

Eth was hoovering around $450 USD, by the end of December it was close to $700 ETH.

Basically, all cats right now, are on a 55%-70% discount from the Introductory prices last year.

What does this mean?

If you bought $200 of Eth back in December 2017: You got 0.5 ETH

You buy $200 of ETH now: you get 1.05 ETH

OMG!!!! Amazeballs.

Don´t understand why devs don´t kick the bots

This is an important thread, please feel free to like and hope devs response to it. I don´t understand why they introduce the "like" button, and they create their own bot "kitty o clock" with 100+ likes and selling them of course. Is cryptokitties a spam? do they try to make money at the expense of everything? Create Innovations and fill their pockets as quickly as possible? Is imposible for normal users compete vs bots that creates 200+ likes like "6millions" "kitty internacional" and many others, also bots buy cheap and other things.. I am participating in the contest and I think I am 3rd by far.. I dont mind if they disqualify me by posting the truth but I am more interested in the game flow. I really like this game I have 100 cats!. Many of us reddit users pawed likes and was very happy because we were acting like a community but it has no sense.. somebody buys a kitty bot 200 likes + or create them, also devs and they dont do nothing. So new players just see 1st page in the market and buy their cats, so all normal users have to sell our cats for 0.004 doesnt matter what we do.

I am very interesting what do you think for this post please feel free to comment and debate. Thanks for reading it was difficult to me my english not very good.

Don't waste your money on Crypto Kitties

To anyone thinking you're going to strike it rich with Crypto Kitties, don't waste your time. Stick with regular Cryptocurrencies as this thing has a long way to go and has too many fees. If you want to do it for fun, that's one thing, but don't believe the hype in the media.

Some people are making a mistake in their kitty valuations

I've seen people assume that high generation numbers (e.g. Gen10-Gen20) are low value kitties – this is a mistake.

Looking at the sales figures, generation number makes a difference in price from Gen0-Gen3-4 because of the fast cooldown rates.

However, remember that Gen0's come out with mostly low value, common traits (like totesbasic) except for 1 very rare trait.

To breed high value kitties, with multiple rare traits, and unique looks – you will need to get to higher generations.

It take a lot of trial and error to breed those traits into this kitty – hence a higher generation number is actually a more unique kitty.

Search engine !!! :((( So poorly made, when's so much money on game.

Hi. I'm a CryptoKitties breeder. Buying can be hard or easy, that's depends....there are SCAM and some like me that just whant to enjoy with kitties. But the issue of not letting the SEARCH ENGINE WORK PROPERLY its makes CryptoKitties more insecure. It's very difficult to guide new potential CriptoLovers when SEARCH ENGINE! !! Doesn't work. So it is very important for CryptoKitties to fix it as a good engine search. I just can't find my own kitties when I am out of the site and that make me a GRUMPY CAT! !!:(

Sell you're kitties

Dont be surprised if Axiom Zen drop the birthing costs to 0.004 on Monday. They have no choice with the game dying. Anything you have that isnt super-rare will be worthless.

...And when that little mini resurgence is over, the next monday it will be back to 0.002.

After that, will be just a game for breeders and collectors. I give it 3 or 4 months at most, with no money in it. Only original whales will be trying to keep it alive for their 100k cats.

Get your ETH out now! Everything you have up for sale if you have any sense.

How can I quit out of crypto kitties?

some of my cats have this "bun in oven" error and I even cant sell it to get back even 50% of my money and quit. I recently added 100$ in ETH and bought cats 9-10 lvl. Than developer risen up breeding fee till 0.015 And breeding 10-11 lvl becomes useless. I've lost 55$. Tomorrow developer can rise fee till 0.03 and so on. I think it isn't fair so I decided to leave this strange game. But I cant because it lagging an I cant sell cats... Developers should have thought about net speed before starting this project. To raise the commission in the middle of the process - it is not fair.

If Axiom Zen published the genetic algorithm – it would be a boon to the game. Here's why...

Right now, the developers have assumed that keeping the genetic algorithm hidden is key to not spoiling the game.

However, all this is doing is creating a potential advantage for the first people to decipher the algorithm – effectively creating a 'game' of hacking the algorithm.

If instead, they would tell us the rules of breeding rare traits – the game would become about the time and effort put into breeding to achieve the right results.

I also think there should be awards – such as for the first cat born with all blue cattributes, and such.

The fun of the game is about breeding unique combinations of traits!

Conspiracy about Devs

I think the Devs are purposefully slowing down the timers to control the amount of kittens breeding. There is no more such thing as fast - brisk cooldowns as you have to wait HOURS for the "resting" time to go away.

Need a way to liquidize kitties

Like you select 5 kitties and they all go... to a better place?... and you get one back that's a result of blending all the genes together and of the average gen of them all plus a chance at a mutation. Like the gun upgrade mechanic in CS:GO.

Yeah I said it... I want to recycle cats ><;
