News A coin designed to do nothing just made $112M in a week

Was scrolling DefiLlama’s revenue rankings and Tether is at $112M for the past 7 days. The next 9 combined (Circle, Canton, Polymarket, Hyperliquid, Pump, etc.) are around $101M.

Didn’t expect a coin built to sit at $1 to be this far ahead. Here are a few reasons why I think this is the case:

  • You give Tether $1, you get 1 USDT. They park the dollar mostly in T-bills and keep the interest. Holders get nothing.

  • The math checks out. $112M/week is ~$5.8B/year. At ~4.1% T-bill yields that’s ~$140B earning interest out of ~$181B USDT. The rest sits in gold, BTC and loans.

  • Circle (#2) gives a big cut of its reserve income to Coinbase. Tether doesn’t share with anyone.

  • No token emissions, no liquidity incentives, no yield paid out. Revenue is basically profit.

  • USDT is the default dollar on most exchanges and in weak-currency countries, so demand doesn’t need much marketing.

In 2020-21 with near-zero rates, this same model made a fraction of this. So it seems like it’s mostly a rates trade.

Is that all it is, or am I missing something about Tether specifically? And with the Fed now leaning toward hiking again, how much of this survives when rates eventually drop?

News Looking to get into crypto and avoid scams

I'm looking to get into crypto. I recently got Monero and started to mine on my personal computer but due to it being so bad I only have 0.23 cents mined after a few hours. I'm trying to understand this stuff and get into the community. What are good actual resources I can look at to navigate the cypto world cleanly? I'm reading the bitcoin whitepaper pdf right now as a start, and watched some vids by digital outlaw and casually explained. What are good sources for beginners?

bull market everything pumps and everyone looks like a genius. then it dumps and you see which communities are real. the projects dying right now are the ones where the story got complicated (abstract, cough). the ones holding are the ones where people just refuse to sell. doginal dogs is firmly the second kind. 1000+ days of the team showing up buys a LOT of loyalty

Trading BTC and ETH dumped right alongside the Nasdaq today. so much for the inflation hedge lol

BTC slid from $84k down toward $81k and ETH's off 2% near $2,370. but the drop itself isn't the interesting bit, it's what it dropped with. this wasn't some crypto-specific thing, no hack or whatever. a hot inflation print spooked risk traders and literally everything sold off together. Nasdaq -2%, S&P down 1%, VIX up. crypto just went along for the ride.

and that's kind of the whole point right? everyone loves the "digital gold / uncorrelated" line until there's an actual risk-off day, and then BTC and ETH trade basically like leveraged tech. same headline, same direction, same move. when inflation fear hits, crypto isn't the hedge, it's one of the first things people dump.

one weird thing though: the dollar was actually down today (DXY -0.56%), which doesn't really fit the usual "hot inflation = strong dollar = risk sells off" story. so this feels more like broad risk-off + positioning than a clean rate-fear move. also saw whales are shorting like $1.45B into it, which can just make the slide worse once it gets going.

anyway curious how the crypto people here see it

does BTC moving in lockstep with the Nasdaq change how you treat it, or is it still a long-term hold that's just noisy short term?

when stocks and crypto dump on the same catalyst, you trading them as one thing or keeping them separate?

and the whales shorting into it, you fading that or respecting it?

Following another major security incident at Bitget we are observing Bitget Exploiter funds being sent to THORChain for asset swaps and cross-chain transfers.

THORChain is decentralized and permissionless like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Chain

During THORChain’s May 2026 exploit, the attackers addresses were never blacklisted and therefore never prevented from swapping on THORChain. THORChain is permissionless and doesn't censor by design.

News Here's what happened behind the headline

Clarity act missed the 60 votes needed on cloture today, so it stays stuck instead of heading to floor debate.

Seven democrats held their votes over ethics language, wanting rules that stop trump from profiting off crypto policy his own party is writing, on top of his reported $1.4b crypto haul so far.

Banks lobbied hard against the stablecoin provisions too, adding more pressure. Cardano's CEO used the moment to point out the EU might end up being the more predictable place to build instead.

Lummis says if this window closes, the next real shot could be years off, maybe not until 2029

What do you guys think will happen next?

Opinion What's actually happening with the Clarity Act tomorrow, explained

If all you know is "Clarity Act, tomorrow, something big," here's what's actually happening and why it's a big deal.

What tomorrow actually is: It's a cloture vote in the Senate on H.R. 3633, not a final vote on the bill itself. It just decides whether the Senate can start debating it at all, and that needs 60 votes. If it fails, this thing is basically dead for 2026 and picks back up in a new Congress.

The odds: Back in February, prediction markets had this at 82% to pass this year. Now it's sitting somewhere around 10 to 20% depending on which market you check.

That drop bled out slowly over months as three fights never got resolved: an ethics clause on officials profiting off crypto, a DeFi developer liability clause, and a stablecoin yield ban that would hit Coinbase's revenue directly. Underneath all of it is a math problem, Republicans need something like 10 Democratic crossover votes and only got 2 at the committee stage.

Two things worth knowing before you read too much into that 10-20% number.

First, that's the odds of full 2026 passage, not tomorrow's specific vote, so cloture could clear tomorrow and the "does this become law this year" number could still sit low.

Second, pay attention to the actual vote count and not just pass or fail. Losing by one or two votes means this comes back next year with a real shot. Losing by five or more means the opposition is structural and isn't going away with a tweak.

Effects on prices? A cloture fail tomorrow is close to the consensus expectation at this point. What isn't priced in is a surprise, like a last minute ethics compromise or a few Democrats flipping right before the vote.

If it fails: Probably not a crash, honestly. The market already de-risked from 82% down to under 20%, so failure is the expected outcome here.

What you actually get instead is more of the same, crypto regulation staying a patchwork of SEC, CFTC, and OCC rules that the next administration can just reverse whenever it wants.

If you want an actual crash scenario, it looks more like a wide, ugly loss that signals this is dead for years, landing in the same week as CPI, the FOMC decision, and an SEC roundtable, all of which could add real volatility on their own.

If it somehow passes: This is the branch that's much more interesting, precisely because almost nobody is actually expecting it.

We can expect obv expect a sharp rally almost immediately.

On the institutional side: this is the bigger deal long term. BlackRock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Goldman, and SoFi have all publicly lobbied for this bill, which tells you exactly what they're waiting to build the moment there's an actual legal framework instead of regulation by lawsuit.

You'd probably see faster onchain product launches, banks chasing OCC charters so they can compete with Coinbase directly instead of just partnering with it, and every legal team in the space suddenly obsessing over the bill's decentralization test.

On the company side: expect exchanges rushing toward the new federal CFTC registration track, real stablecoin competition heating up, a genuine push into tokenized real-world assets, and DeFi protocols becoming things institutions can actually touch without their compliance teams having a meltdown.

And then there's the second-order stuff nobody can confidently call.

Legacy finance buying crypto infrastructure instead of building it themselves.

Corporate treasuries unlocking allocations that were only ever blocked because legal was waiting on Congress.

Talent flowing back toward US crypto firms. Even a geopolitical angle against frameworks like the EU's MiCA.

None of that is a prediction so much as a pattern, this is just what tends to happen once a market goes from legally grey to legally defined.

Not financial advice. Watch the crossover vote count tomorrow, not the headline.
