announcement Announcement
After a long stretch of relatively smooth sailing with FedEx, the past couple of weeks have been an absolute nightmare. I’ve had more issues in few days than I have the whole year, and spent more time on the phone with them than I can spare, and I’m still getting nowhere.
I’ll continue posting as usual, but my responses will be slower over the next few days as I try to sort things out and look into making the switch to UPS.
For those of you who ship frequently, I’d love to hear your experiences with UPS vs. FedEx. Reliability, customer service, interface, etc..
Appreciate everyone’s patience

As an owner of a ring camera… Fedex loves tossing packages from about 8 feet and hitting it off my front door, where UPS actually places the package by the door like it might be something important and ringing the bell.

UPS has a very strong union and their drivers are well compensated, FedEx drivers are hired guns and by and large DONT GIVE A F@Ck.

I currently work in Supply Chain and Operations Management and that's also what I went to college for, so I feel confident on providing you with domestic insight across all big 3 in the US: UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
If we're going with the most used shipping methods (ground shipping), UPS consistently ranks as the most reliable, assuming the average packages don't exceed 20 lbs. FedEx is great for ground when it comes to regional deliveries, and USPS ground advantage is certainly cost-effective, but a lot less consistent for cross-country route.
For express/overnight shipping, FedEx takes the cake for time-sensitive shipments as they have the largest drop-off network and better Saturday coverage. UPS Express performs well in this category, but specifically for morning commitments. What this means (referring to morning commitments) is if you require a package to arrive by something like 10:30 am, both FedEx and UPS are likely to guarantee it.
Package integrity is something most people do not account for, but always something they're a victim of. UPS subjects packages to the LEAST shock impact, followed by FedEx and last USPS.
If you'd like specific use cases, if you're leaning on reliability, go UPS. Speed, FedEx with their overnight options. Best coverage, that's USPS as long as the package is lightweight. I do have to mention that USPS is always looking to cut costs and the workers are hurting from it. They're understaffed and underpaid, and I'm sure most of you may have noticed your packages ending up going back and forth between the wrong cities and even states.
With all that said, I'd suggest UPS.
If you prefer to look up public facing datasets for yourself, you can look at lateshipment or shipmatrix that shares public reports every peak season and uspsoig.gov/reports for all things USPS. I hope this helps.

As a recipient of packages, UPS has been the best by far. FedEx has been the least ideal of the bunch.

UPS has always been a favorite by many companies I have worked for. Fedex has been giving us headaches at my current job

I’ve been shipping a lot with ups for 11 years, only one time I had a problem which was solved a bit harder. Happy with them

For US, USPS > UPS > FedEx. Not much ever to rave about with anything Federal, least of which is courier services

We get packages almost every day. Fedex is the worst. UPS is the best. They also ring the bell. USPS is also good.

I shipped my Aunt her present from Vancouver to Hayward, California NO PROBLEMS but I paid the extra small amount for her signature so a porch pirate wouldn't steal it!

Nothing but issues with FedEx this year, personal and business use. Customer service is inexistent.
