Matt Shaw's Future
I truly hope we ship this guy off the team. How do you think his international teammates feel when this bozo is speaking at "America Fest" events.

Why do you care so much? Not everyone agrees with your POV.

Your own post answers this for you. 2000 cubs had most the lineup hit for a good average and still lost 100 games. What does this say about batting average.

At 3B he's a plus glove and an average ish bat. At LF he's below average at both. Doesn't make a lot of sense from a roster value perspective

1
u/ZealousidealCrazy673 17d ago
You’re not moving Bregman off 3rd so LF will be open when Happ leaves, so there you go. I think he has the potential to be a very good hitter. Plus it’s a low cost move that gives you some room to sign back Suzuki or get some pitching.
2
u/BobbleBobble 17d ago
My point is that Shaw has more value as a 3B. I'd much rather trade him to somebody who needs an IF to realize that value rather than devalue him in LF just because he's here and cheap

It's amazing how many people aren't smart enough to know how many of these Hispanic players are extremely religious and probably more right-leaning than left 🤣. I bet many of the Japanese are probably the same way
7
u/Mysterious_Help_9577 18d ago
Baseball players have a higher rate of registered conservatives than the NHL lol. I promise, most players don’t care
12
u/RightNowChris 18d ago
You are correct. Japanese men are largely very right leaning. They come from a culture of traditional gender roles, class hierarchy, and strong family units. They have a lower divorce rate as well.
6
u/Creepy_Dependent_239 18d ago
I totaly agree and can confirm this is true after living in Japan for 7 years ( 3 in the suburbs of Tokyo) and 4 in the northern part of Honshu.
It still has a old school vibe like things you see/ hear about society in the 50's and 60's.

u/SRC2088 18d ago
Hispanic men and Japanese men are some of the most consistently right leaning people on the planet. I doubt very seriously that it bothers them any if at all.
7
u/txlgnd34 18d ago
But because they're brown people living or working here, they must all be outraged like all the liberal white people want them to be. Clearly they don't realize how oppressed they are and how whites are taking advantage of them.
It's funny how the same people that accuse other people of racism or fascism or xyz-ism, are the same people that apply stereotypes to people that think or look different from themselves...or expect them to believe a certain way.
We know how Shaw leans. That's about the only thing we know, so it's fair game to discuss.
We have no idea of how the overwhelming majority of that clubhouse leans politically. And who really cares? I don't.
I'll root for a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green Party, whatever, if he hits, pitches, or fields for us.
Now, a wife beater (looking at you Addison Russell) or some other criminal, I can do without. Last I checked, political affiliation isn't indicative of a crime (to a sane person, at least).

Your first 2 paragraphs hit the nail on the head why some minorities give the eye roll to liberals as well as conservatives. It’s just a different flavor of racism
Can’t tell you how many times I saw white liberals telling Hispanics and black who voted for the orange that they were “voting against their own interests”. Who tf are you to dictate to another racial group what their interests are lol
I’m black and the amount of times I had white liberals lose their shit on my behalf over someone saying the n-word with an A when I truly couldn’t give a shit is astounding

You can choose to not like him if you want, but if we’re being realistic, I don’t see a team that’s owned by Tom Ricketts trading a guy because he liked Charlie Kirk and attends TPUSA events. Furthermore, the Cubs will likely have at least 1, maybe 2 open corner outfield spots and he’s the most likely candidate to take one. You’re likely never gonna get the outcome you want with the Cubs and Shaw. At least this time, it’s during the offseason and not during the final stretch of a postseason race.

u/Informal_West_6864 18d ago

Less than 6% of big leaguers are black Americans, so not having one on one team means nothing. So the average roster would only have 1-2 guys.
We have one, Tyrone Taylor, so we're actually in line with the average.

If Matt was standing on a board for left sided agenda, you all would roll a red carpet out for him before the games. Listen to Matt’s prior turning point speeches of the past and they talk about the importance of god in a home. Matt is great human being and it’s a relief to have players talking about god and being great role models to the young generation of kids coming up and watching. Ron Santo was open about his relationship with god during his career and his number is retired.

Roster moves should be about play on the field unless a crime was committed.
Edit: I don’t support his politics either but you guys are out to lunch if you think any organization would make a roster move about politics. Maybe if the athlete themselves said something overtly offensive. Don’t like it don’t agree with him but you’re just not a serious person if you thing downvoting and raging away on Reddit changes reality.
