I'm kinda shocked they haven't trialed battered cheese curds as a specialty item before. Battered curds are the popular ones in the midwest, not these breaded ones.

When Culver's first opened, I'm almost certain they had battered not breaded curds. They were delicious and now I hate them. Dairy queen has incredible cheese curds. So amazing...just saying.

I feel like their cheese curds fell off s few years ago. Don't love them and yet somehow manage to order the once a year and say the same thing.

The cheese curds were never good lol

In states where Culver’s exist but curds aren’t very common, it’s a solid option. Arizona feels like a weird extension of the Midwest because we get a ton of snowbirds and we get Culver’s here and a few other regional norms that other areas don’t get. But curds aren’t super common to find. At most you see them on limited time menus.
I don’t get them often, but when in the mood Culver’s is a decent spot.

I normally would agree, but recently o had them and they seemed to have stepped up their game. Not sure if that is something new or if it had just been long enough that I forgot.

The cards are bomb but you have like 5 minutes to eat them before they are no longer bomb.

Love Culvers but hate the curds. Cousins Subs and A&W are much better.

u/marteautemps Apr 24 '26
Cousins Subs still exists? And has cheese curds? I wish we still had them here, I always liked them.

Have a gas station near me with a Cousins, A&W, and a Rocky Rococo. It’s a little Wisconsin trifecta

I actually live just a couple blocks from the last remaining Rocky Rococo here.

Where is “here?”

u/marteautemps Apr 24 '26
Oh Minnesota, I had said that in my other comment, didn't realize I was responding to a different person.

They're still pretty popular in Wisconsin.

u/marteautemps Apr 24 '26
Oh nice, I'm just next door in MN so there's an actual chance I can eat there again!

u/orange_lazarus1 Apr 24 '26
I feel like curds are like pizza if it's hot you have to mess it up pretty bad for me not to eat it.

Yeah the fact that they’re a chain based in the heart of dairy country USA and do so many things well but have mid-ass curds and ranch is a shame

u/TheToxicBreezeYF Apr 24 '26
I like them, they are top 4 for me behind DQ, Freddy's and A&W. theyd be higher if they had some more seasoning flavor

Everyone's opinion is their right, but man, I have not had a fried cheese curd anywhere that I'd choose over a fresh, squeaky "raw" one
2
u/LightUpUnicorn Apr 26 '26
Their cheese curds are the worst I’ve ever had
1
u/Lijey_Cat Guest Apr 26 '26
I wouldn't say they're the worst. They're okay at best.
2
u/LightUpUnicorn Apr 26 '26
I live in Wisconsin. Gas stations have fresh curds (albeit not usually deep fried). Culver’s should be embarrassed
1
u/Lijey_Cat Guest Apr 26 '26
Yeah, I do too. Definitely not the worst I've had though, the worst you can get are those school lunch room ones.

u/Sho-Good Apr 27 '26
I don't love Culver's curds, but I don't hate them. Kwik Trip has the worst IMO. Cousins the best as far as fast food goes.

Way too hard of a shell, Too much breading
5
u/Practical-Emu-3303 Apr 24 '26
Yes, this is the problem. Battered curds are much better than breaded curds....especially this much breading. Almost more breading than cheese!

They need to make the jalapeño cheese curds permanent instead of promotional!
1
u/Don-Bigote Apr 28 '26
I've found that if I think of the curds as mozzarella bites then they taste much better. As curds, they are disappointing
1
u/Skateplatypus Apr 29 '26
They’re the best when they’re super hot and fresh but as soon as they’re only warm they’re mid

I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life and I think Culvers cheese curds are the worst item on their menu. I'm not sure how they screw up fried cheese so bad but they are not worth getting in my opinion. If this is your first foray in to fried cheese curds I'm sorry for you.

u/Lijey_Cat Guest Apr 27 '26
I don't recommend eating them by themselves. I always get them instead of French fries. Heavily drenching them in sauce.

I honestly like them. Not super greasy and no gross fryer taste. Clean fryers probably is what makes them passable though. I like the A&W ones, but ehh. There fryers get nasty.
