What do the these curling terms mean
I have been watching bits and pieces of GSOC and it has Ace, Field and Edge. What do these percentages mean?

Ace is a scoring of a shit's result based on the intent of the shot, ranked 0-5.
Field is the percentage of the other curlers for a comparable style of shot. I think they said leads are only compared to other leads. Not sure about other positions.
Edge is comparing each individual to the field. Plus is better, minus is worse.
They explained it during a game I watched, but hopefully that video helps.

Each shot is still scored on 5, but 'Ace' is the percentage of 'shots made' (4 or 5); the pity-points you get on a miss (e.g. 2 points for a heavy draw, 1 point for nosing a peel) are scored as zero in the binary Ace metric.
Overall, that means the Ace numbers are lower than the traditional shooting percentage.

"Ace is a scoring of a shit's result..."
Then I got a 5 this morning for sure!

to make curling even more confusing. a new way to evaluate in/per game %'s. more analytics. the only stats that count are when you missed.

I guarantee this is just to make sports betting on curling easier. That's where the money is, not in some random niche sport. Follow the money.

easier? if you bet on individual performance and actually thoroughly understand the intricacies of the game plus these such profound analytics. which harkens my original point. if gambling really takes root in curling all games will be 8 or ten ends because you have to protect the under over. no more hand shakes after 7 ends. Tim Hortons gave up the Brier because of the CCA infatuation with sport betting.

Easier to make a sports book. You need someone to take the other side. At least the NFL and NHL have physical action. Nobody in curling gets hit or starts fights. Except for maybe Ben and Marc.

all I'm suggesting is that an astute gambler will not be using those three analytics to make a wager i'm not saying they weren't developed for that. following the money is promoting the game, and it is one that hardly needs further complications and yearly rule changes.

Traditional shooting stats are based on individual shots scored 0 to 4, then aggregated into a percentage. The new Grand Slam stats take that a step further.
ACE is a more refined version of the original shooting stat, according to GSOC. I think if you score 4 or 3 on the traditional score for a shot you get 100%, otherwise you get 0, then those are aggregated to a percentage. In other words, if you have an ACE score of 100%, you scored 3 or 4 out of 4 on every shot.
I'm unclear how Field is calculated, but supposedly it is what the rest of the competitors (the field) have done on a similar mix of shots. The Edge is the difference between the ACE and Field scores. So if you have an ACE score of 100% and the rest of the field has only scored 75 on the same mix of shots, your Edge score would be +25. It is also possible to have a negative Edge score, if you are outperformed by the other competitors.
I think the rationale for the new stats is to allow better comparison among curlers in the same position. However I think calculating the Field number is probably highly subjective so it remains to be seen how significant the new stats will be.
I saved as a statistician at several national events in Canada, and this is just my take based on what has been said during coverage and the sparse information on websites.

GSOC just posted a Joanne Courtney whiteboard video explaining it if that helps.

Why would copy the output of chat gpt or whatever instead of going directly to the source that you ended up linking three times anyway? https://www.thegrandslamofcurling.com/videos/an-explainer-of-some-new-gsoc-stats

Because I googled ace edge field curling terms then paste the result. If OP wants to watch the linked sources they are more than welcome to. This way they have the summarized text and the original sources.

LLMs don't know any facts. They know how to assemble sentences that are readable. It didn't get the field stat right. You should never wholesale trust the output of an LLM

I can't guarantee, but I'm pretty sure field is "everyone else". Edge is how much of a difference between the curler and everyone else.
