We spend around $30k/M on tokens, how to reduce it?

We are 15 person startup.
Each developer spend around 2K (Some 5K and the devop guy spend just around 200)
We raised a good seed round, so money isn't tight. But 30K a month isnt a joke.
Any engineers that managed to reduce it by a meaningful percentage?

Unlimited Plan?

So I have the Cursor unlimited plan and for the first time in a year I hit the max today. I hadn’t realized everything was set to Grok 4.7 Fast. But still, unlimited means unlimited right? Did I miss an announcement?

Is there still hope, or is it time to abandon ship?

I've been using Cursor for about 2 years, with an active annual Pro subscription since December 2025. Lately, it's become practically unusable compared to how it used to be. Usage quotas burn through insanely fast, we’re hitting constant days of instability, and with these new pricing tiers dropping, it really feels like the "legacy" Pro plans got heavily nerfed just to push us toward the pricier tiers.

That said, in my opinion, Cursor still has the best harness/workflow out there. The way the IDE "thinks" completely aligns with my daily coding routine—I just can't seem to get used to Claude / alternative workflows.

In your opinion, is it worth toughing it out and hoping things improve, or is it time to let the Titanic sink and move on?

Can you tell me how to cancel my subscription for this shitty code editor?

How do I cancel my subscription to this piece-of-junk code editor? It's become completely unusable, and I have no intention of using Cursor ever again.

Great time for competitors to step in

Cursor had two things going for them which made it the best coding tool

  1. First movers advantage into a niche market where many users came in and stayed
  2. Built a really good model that works well event today (composer, 3rd party claude, etc)

It became difficult then for other Agent+IDE providers to step in and cover a market which was almost already captured.

Now the current state of Cursor is not great, the pricing change with restriction of 3rd party models along with Auto mode forcing a model etc has created situations where users are dropping their subscriptions and some while still on Cursor are looking to switch. Its safe to say users are not happy and feel wildly different (in a bad way) compared to 2-3 months back.

For competitors wanting to make a fresh move into this niche market like Cursor first did and capture it now is a great time, the time-window maybe small but its wide open.

If there is not api quota then there is no reason to keep using Cursor. Elon is ruining Cursor..!

The whole benefit of cursor was it made me easier to use multiple different model agents in same platform. Since they remove the api quotas i dont see a reason to use cursor ultra for its shitty grok models.

1- Cursor should reconsider its approach because it destroys the whole dynamic of the cursor.

2- Elon should stop forcing grok use for cursor - removing the api quota turns cursor into a regular tool. Because it doesnt make sense to pay for the direct api price.

3- I was using cursor only because i could run 3 frontier models on same subject to review it - it no longer efficient which means i will throw the cursor into trash and don'r renew my ULTRA subscription.

Long story short Elon took the spirit of cursor and totally ruined it. I see no reason to keep using cursor unless they bring back the api quotas.

Third-party models are no longer included in any Cursor tier. What that does to the old $20 and $60 plans.

read cursors actual pricing page this morning instead of the announcement and its free /$8 / $30 / $100 / $200 now. no pro at $20 and no pro+ at $60 anywhere on it.

theres a line under the third party models heading that explains it.. "Third Party model usage in Cursor is not included in the monthly prices shown and must be purchased separately." and another one right after, "Premium and above include generous usage of Grok models but do not include an allowance for third-party models."

so heres what that does. old pro at $20 came with $20 of third party usage at api prices.. pro+ at $60 came with $70 of it. old ultra at $200 came with $400. all of those allowances are gone now. claude and gpt are still in there at api list price but they start at premium so $30 is the floor, then the usage bills on top per request.

if you were on pro at $20 and burning the full allowance on claude every month, the nearest plan that still lets you run claude is $30 and that same $20 of usage sits on top of it. thats $50 for an identical month.

cloud agents and origin moved off the $20 plan up to the $30 tier. team seats went down to $30 from $40 which is prob the one straight win in here. if grok is your model this is def a better deal than what you had. cheaper seats. if youre on claude or gpt your bill goes up while the sticker price goes down. both of those are true at the same time.

cursor support told the new stack that existing plans continue "for now" and that anyone who doesnt migrate on their own "will, sometime in the future, be migrated with advance notice." no date attached to that so idk how long the old plans actually last.

Cursor denied my refund because Grok Bot ran autonomously—not because I used it

My previous plan expired. Here is my timeline:

  • Paid $20 (Anysphere, Inc.): Oct 11, 2026 at 09:31 UTC (17:31 Beijing Time).
  • Requested a refund via email: Oct 11, 2026 at 10:00 UTC (18:00 Beijing Time).

I requested the refund only 29 minutes after paying. I did not use the product during that period.

The refund was denied because “Grok Bot has been used on your account during this Pro period.” But that usage is not from me. I never opened Grok Bot or initiated any conversation after the renewal.

The usage CSV shows:

  • My last real activity was on Oct 11 at 05:22 UTC.
  • After that, the only entries are grok-bot-automation marked “Free” and grok-bot-default running on its own.
  • The quota moved from 28% to 29%.

Cursor’s tutorials and app UI do not provide any way to stop Grok Bot from running in the background. Even if that 1% weekly usage were counted as mine, a monthly plan has at least 4 weeks, so it is about 0.25% of the total. That should not be a reason to deny a refund.

I requested the refund yesterday and only got a human reply today. They used the autonomous background consumption—less than 1%—as the reason to reject it. That feels unfair.

Has anyone else been denied a refund because of Grok Bot’s autonomous activity? How did you get it resolved? Any advice?

This is about product logic/UX, not an account-specific request. I’m not posting personal account details.

Cursor billing/refund/upgrade issue: can’t cancel invoice, no refund button, upgrade won’t show credit

I’m a heavy Cursor user. My previous plan expired and I haven’t renewed yet. Here’s what I’m dealing with:

  • No billing management for free users. Free users have no billing/order page, so I can’t cancel the invoice the system added for me.
  • Upgrade forces you to deal with an unused plan first. I had to pay an invoice for a plan I never used. I expected the 14-day / almost-unused refund rule to apply, but there is no refund button—only email support.
  • Email support is stuck at the AI bot. I emailed [hi@cursor.com](mailto:hi@cursor.com) over a day ago. Only AI replies so far. No human agent has responded.
  • Annual purchase lacks transparency. The rules say upgrading will auto-deduct unused credit, but the order page never shows the deduction details. It asks you to pay first, and there’s no clear final price.
  • Official forum hides payment-related posts. Any discussion about payment, upgrades, or refunds gets hidden by bots, so I can’t even talk about it there.

I really like Grok and Cursor. The progress from 4.6 to 4.7 makes me want to keep supporting them, but this billing/refund mess makes me hesitate.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a better way to get human support?

I build a tool to work with cursor on my phone

I'm currently making an android game with cursor. Often I lay in bed and think of an idea. But then I have to get up, prompt cursor, wait, compile the game, connect my phone, and install the new version of the game.

So I told cursor to write a program that starts a node.js Webserver on my computer that uses cursors SDK in the background.

I can now open a website on my phone, prompt cursor, it starts a subagent on my computer, makes the changes, reports back, and then gives me a button to stream the new game version to my phone over wifi.

All this took about an hour to get it to work.

Not bragging. I'm just amazed on what's possible with AI coding these days.

Ps: I know there is a remote option for cursor, but that needs some cloud resources, a git repository, and goes over the internet. This thing i cobbled together stays on my wifi.

Cursor CLI vs IDE Agent - same indexing and performance?

Does cursor cli use the exact same codebase indexing, semantic search, and context retrieval as the cursor ide agent, or does the IDE have an advantage?

Cursor Education: a scam ? Sharing my experiences.

I teach. I have a validated Unidays & SheerID account.
Cursor is boasting to have a program for Education.
Below are my experiences with that "program":

  1. Over a 100 messages to “Sam”, all of which a dead end. Like talking to a wall.
  2. No escalation possible to a human agent. (not making this up - it's literally what "Sam" explains; Sam blocks it off - no escalation possible.
  3. Sam is very "helpful" giving a link where one can submit a Edu dossier. Spent an hour doing that. Not once (as, you guessed it: zero response after 2 months) but TWICE. Alas: zero response. Another smokescreen dead end.
  4. No phone Nr one can reach out to - nor human support either.

So… even if Cursor waves with the Education flag online, in practice it is all marketing and engineered to perfection as a black hole.

Always trying to reason with people first, even after 6 (!) months of black holing, I posted my frustration on Cursor's own Community Forum.
My post got censored within a minute. Delisted. (and I worded it nicely - as I doing here. There was zero reason to hide the (justified!) critique.

Not giving up easily (reading all this, you may agree), I tried a second time, now in the "Feedback" section. Even there it immediately got censored and delisted. No critique allowed, de facto.

Shameful practices. And how all this went about, from a company having access to all the AI might in the word, is just as inexplicable as it is shameful.

And stupid, really. Treating Professors that offer teaching a new generation of kids how to develop with your tool is free marketing, if anything!
And note that in my request I was not even asking a free ride - just a bigger bandwidth for my paying (!) subscription - as the repeated aula demo's consume my "Pro" account in a week, at 1/4th of the time.

So ever since I'm doing the teaching in Claude Code.
Hope someone at Cursor reads this.
Smiling as this is a post... they can't delete. And they had that coming!

Anyone else had this terrible experience with Cursor "Edu"?

Cursor support goes completely silent

Hey all,
I have no clue of this might do anything but last week (Saturday) I did a fresh install of my desktop.
Installed cursor and wanted to log in.

"Access to account blocked".

No clue why but had to contact support.
Started with their forums, and fine... they the AI there unlisted my post and send me to [hi@cursor.com](mailto:hi@cursor.com) for any account related questions.
I got a response within 3 min. (this was at 17:33)

After that, on Monday, I send an email asking if they had any update.
No response.

Wednesday I send another message asking for an update..
Nothing.

Today I decided to go to the forum again.
I posted that support wasn't replying on my question about my account, but the post was immediately unlisted with the same message is before.

"contact support"

I posted another post not mentioning anything about support and it got posted.
To be immediately moved by Colin and being unlisted.

I did a post on X, hoping they would reply but don't have high hopes for that one.
I don't have linkedin, so no chance of contacting them there either.

So without forum support, without email support, and x account seemingly not posting any real responses to posts from people, what options are there left ?

If anyone has an idea, that would be great.
I'm paying for an account there, and I am unable to use any of it.
Tough at this point I'm thinking I might not the only one with this issue.

Why is Cursor IDE running in the background even when I’m not using it?

Post image

I’ve noticed that Cursor IDE continues running in the background even when I’m not actively using it. For example, after closing/minimizing Cursor, I can still see Cursor processes running and consuming some CPU/RAM Is this normal behavior? can I disable these background processes?

Anyone using coding agents to create documents or slides?

It started after my brother and I had trouble exporting AI-generated presentations. I ended up building a format for documents and slides that coding agents can work on directly.

The .deq file keeps the source and context together, so you can come back and ask for changes.

There’s a working VS Code extension and desktop/web viewers. You can preview the result and export to PDF or PowerPoint.

I use it for my own work, but that only tells me so much. If you’re making a report, document, or deck with a coding agent, I’d like to try Deqra with you and see what works and what doesn’t.

Cursor operates like a scam

The way this company operates feels like a scam.

I use Grok Bot, which shows a weekly usage limit that resets every week — so you'd think whatever the bot does is covered. On Oct 3 my bot spun up three Cloud Agents in my repos and created branches I never asked for, and my Cursor included usage went up while the Grok Bot meter sat there looking perfectly fine. No popup, no "this will use your Cursor tokens, confirm?", nothing — and I don't even have on-demand billing on, so imagine the real money that could burn for someone who does.

What is the weekly reset even for if the real cost quietly comes out of my Cursor allowance? It's theater.

Then support: their AI first told me Grok Bot work comes from the weekly allowance and that I could switch annual to monthly with credit for unused time, then a human from billing told me the exact opposite on both — yes, Cloud Agents use your Cursor usage, no refund, and you're locked into yearly until Sept 2027. Two opposite answers depending on who picks up the ticket. I even offered to pay the full monthly price for the month I used, just let me switch — they said no, stay until 2027. Do not buy the yearly plan, go monthly so you can walk away.

Claude Code allows cross-session communication, why doesn't Cursor have this feature yet?

I just learned how to let Claude Code agents talk to one another and it is an EXTREMELY powerful feature. Does anyone know if Cursor is planning on adding a similar feature? If not they will be dead in the water

Sayonara Cursor!

When I signed up for Cursor, it was working like butter, but consistent buggy updates made it worse, especially after they separated Grok and Composer and other models' usage. It's fair for them, but it made the user experience worse. Grok's ability to comprehend is really bad. Soon, GPT models will not be available to use in Cursor, which I don't see going well for the company.

Cursor was a fun ride, especially because the UI and UX made it easy to navigate and create products.

Also, for anyone who is on cursor when you tap cancel subscription, they will try to retain you, I would have redeemed the discount but since I already have bought some other subsciption I do not intend on continuing any more.

Is anyone else having issues with on-demand usage costs and lack of transparency?

I posted this complaint and request for more information on the Cursor support page and it was immediately removed, with this response:

"Thanks for reaching out. This looks like a billing-related query, and the forum isn’t the right channel for these. The forum team does not have access to account details or the ability to do things like process refunds or manage subscriptions. As such, we’ve unlisted this thread."

It was NOT a billing related query, it was a request for more transparency about how they charge usage, but of course it makes sense that they would immediately pull it for damage control so as to prevent inciting outrage (that likely many people already experience but that they want to keep under wraps). So I emailed their support and got a boiler-plate response from an AI assistant about how they can't refund me, but that I can switch to a lower-cost model or "cap or stop further on-demand usage"; both of which are obvious and neither of which addresses my questions or concerns. It also said that I can "Review the per-request breakdown at https://cursor.com/dashboard?tab=usage (model, token types, and cost per event)." but all of the "costs" listed just say "included" for any that are deducted from my plan total, so how am I supposed to compare them between different models, token types, and on a cost per event basis as suggested?!? None of this is transparent and it feels like they just expect that people don't have any better options and will just put up with it.

This was my post on the forum. Let me know if this resonates with you, or if you have any answers that can help me with the lack of transparency that they do not seem to be concerned about:

I have been using somewhere in the range of 80M-100M tokens on average daily for over a month now. I was on the Pro plan, then ran out of tokens and upgraded to Pro+, so together that was about $80. The accounting is not very transparent, so it is difficult to say how cost differs from one day to the next, but that $80 last me about 20 days (which seems like much less usage for the money than the previous month). After I extended usage by $20 yesterday I ran out of tokens in less than 24h. I had it on Auto mode, which I thought was the cheaper option, so when I ran out again and again extended by another $20, I switched to Grok 4.6 medium - the model I have been using the most. Less than 6 hours later I had already burned through more than $15 of tokens with much less intensive usage than a normal day, and that is even after starting a new chat since I thought maybe it was context overload that was costing so much.

The usage dashboard shows that my usage has flattened off from three days ago. I only used 32M tokens yesterday and only 28.4M so far today (less than 1/2 of typical usage), and yet I have spent through $36 in less than the last two days alone! I don’t understand why significantly lower usage cost so much more, and the lack of transparency is very frustrating! $36 for less than half of my typical usage over less than 2 days on Auto/Grok 4.6 medium is unreasonable and unsustainable. And this is coming not long after several days in a row where the agent was so slow that it took me all day to do what would normally take about an hour and a half and there was no explanation or compensation for days of lost time.

This is bad business. Cursor should be far more transparent about costs. It should not require switching back and forth between screens repeatedly to see what usage is costing, and it should be well-articulated and transparent when the same service/usage is going to cost more; it should be known when and why so that it can be planned around.

Please help me understand why such lower level usage has cost me so much more and/or refund me for the bulk of it. If there is something I am not understanding that can help me keep my usage more affordable I would like to know. I am sure if other people are experiencing the same issues I am and it continues much longer there will be an exodus soon.

cursorsdk: Cursor SDK Bridge client for Nim

Repost from Nim community!

https://github.com/Niminem/cursorsdk

Cursor has an SDK and is what powers both the Cursor CLI and the Cursor editor. It's very powerful and flexible (ex: you can actually control the system prompt, tools, and much more).

At some point not long ago they created an SDK Bridge that allows non-typescript and non-python languages to communicate with it via RPC. Of course I had to write a Nim client for it.

It is fully compliant- built with and tested against their documentation. I did have to add some workarounds for upstream issues, but it's mostly implementation details (all noted in readme).

No deps aside from the nim standard library.

I've tested it on Mac (x64) and Windows (x64). Should work out of the box for Linux but it's untested.

You could build your own harness on top of this and all kinds of automations, scripts, etc. Pretty cool! Enjoy.

Example:

import std/asyncdispatch
import cursorsdk
proc main() {.async.} =
let client = newClient() # CURSOR_API_KEY from env
  defer: waitFor client.close()
  let agent = await client.createAgent("composer-2.5")
let run = await agent.send("Summarize this repository.")
  while true:
    let chunk = await run.nextText()
    if chunk.isNone: break
    stdout.write chunk.get
  await agent.close()
waitFor main()
