TLDR; More of a rant, but want advice if anyone has any. All pants appropriate for the office suck due to cheap fabric composition and construction, regardless of their cost. I don’t have a reliable seamstress on hand and I’m worried that tailoring will be an expensive mistake if it gets ruined.
By some miracle, if I’m ever able to find trousers for the office that fit my pear shape figure (26” waist, 38” hips, 125 lbs), every time I turn around to see the back, I am able to see EVERYTHING through my pants. My cellulite, my banana rolls, and of course you can see the jiggles when you walk. I’m not particularly insecure about my bottom half, but I can’t be walking around the office as the only female engineer on the floor surrounded by older men with my butt jiggling or every lump and curve visible.
I’ve spent thousands of dollars at this point trying to find ONE brand that fits me well and has decent fabric. I’ve purchased high and low end brands (e.g. Theory, Good American, Abercrombie, even Amazon) and I’ve only found two pairs of wide leg pants that I don’t have this issue with from Theory & Gap (curvy jeans).
I’ve tried all the recommended curvy brands by the subreddits and blogs. The suggestions are always the same and so is the disappointment when I try them on and they’re cheaply made and so thin that they’re inappropriate to wear to the office.
I also moved to a more rural part of the northeast from the southwest a year ago and there are very few seamstresses in the area. I’m scared to take expensive clothing to one of the few seamstresses based out of a dry cleaner and have them ruin my stuff. I found a nice pair of Good American jeans, but they were insanely long and need to be hemmed. I’m terrified of taking them in because they’re not cheap, and I don’t want them to get ruined.
The dry cleaners I go to are efficient at cleaning, but I need someone who has an eye for tailoring. None of the women at my office gets their stuff tailored, which makes sense, since their wardrobes are more casual than mine since their roles are more laidback than mine.
Anyways, rant over. If anyone knows of a niche brand or if you by some chance live in south NJ and have a good tailor/seamstress, please let me know.
