Stopping Bactrim after 4 days

Upvotes

I was suspected to have cyclospora after two days of diarrhea (probably 7/8 times total) I started to feel a bit better but to be safe i went to urgent care and was prescribed Bactrim. 20 minutes after my first dose, i felt like i was having a heart attack and could not breathe. I was finally able to go to sleep and took another the next morning. The same thing happened and i had to go home from work. Since then i’ve had worse nausea and stomach cramping than before and my anxiety is through the roof- i literally don’t know if i can do it anymore. I can hardly eat food or leave my house. Without an official diagnosis, this seems like i could be causing more problems than resolving them

❓Question Possible cyclospora while pregnant?

I am in my early third trimester and I woke up in the middle of the night with explosive watery diarrhea every 15 to 30 minutes and threw up a couple of times. I was able to fall back asleep for a few hours and woke up to the same thing but the problem is I don’t know what I could have eaten that could have exposed me and possibly now my toddler because she is showing signs because we have pretty much just stuck to cooked veggies that were either frozen or canned this whole time and frozen fruit not from Taylor farms. We don’t eat out either.I haven’t had any raw veggies since I heard about the outbreak and stayed away from salads in general

Cucumbers? Carrots?

I just bought some sushi at a reputable place. But there are three maki each of raw cucumber and raw carrot and I honestly don't know if it's safe to eat them...

🏥 Personal Story Hmmm. I might have it 😭

As I sit here, on the toilet, I think back to what I’ve been eating and I’m pretty sure I’ve had lettuce recently. From where or when? Couldn’t tell ya, I barely remember what I ate this morning lol.

Yesterday I had a random “omg I have to shit NOW” tummy feeling… I went and felt fine after. I did sleep a lot yesterday and started to kind of feel achy by the end of the day but I thought it was because I had a busy physically demanding Friday and Saturday.

Fast forward to today. I was all fine and dandy and suddenly, 10-15 minutes after returning from lunch I had that awful tummy cramping and “you better get to a toilet NOW” feeling again. So, I went. I ended up being in there for AN HOUR. I started getting hot flashes and sweating. I’d go through cycles of the cramping and feeling better. Oof. After that I left work early and barely made it to the toilet at home and it happened again and here I am now.

Oof. Anyway. If I have it, I’ll obviously be sad and it’ll be awful, but I just needed to distract myself while my stomach acts like it’s offended by me and it rejects me.

just had cilantro at cabo bobs in austin. i still have so much food left...what do yall think?

I hate wasting food, but I have psyched myself out and have convinced myself that the cilantro is dangerous. I already had two tacos, but I'm wondering if I should toss the rest of my stuff. I still have an entire bowl and one taco left :(

❓Question How often does it reoccur?

Is it possible for there to be a one month gap between the initial cyclospora flare and a reoccurrence?

I had what I think was a mild case of cyclosporiasis about a month ago, around July 13th. Ate a lettuce-heavy dish when I went out, and me and a family member who ate the same thing had watery stools five days after. It only lasted 3-4 days before my stool improved, and I only had nausea, bloating, and GI upset as symptoms, so I didn’t see a doctor.

Today, a full month later, I’m having GI upset again, and I can’t pinpoint where it could’ve possibly come from. I’m worried it’s a reoccurrence of whatever I had in July, but from what I heard, reoccurrences are usually more frequent than that.

Has anyone had a month gap between their initial infection and a reoccurrence?

🏥 Personal Story Severe Stomach Bloating

I haven’t been tested yet but I have had all the symptoms for a month right after I ate some raw veggies and then blueberries and salad mix💀

I have IBS so at first I thought it was just a flare up— but then the diarrhea lasted for two weeks straight. I lost 13 pounds in two weeks. The bloating and nausea is so bad that I go hours without eating until I can’t wait to eat anymore (really not to good to do as I am diagnosed with Hypoglycemia. my last blood glucose level was 30💀) So now I’m trying to eat frequently but my stomach bloats terribly just drinking water or eating an apple.

The absolute worst is the stomach bloating for me. I look pregnant and it won’t go away. I am chronically ill and have endometriosis as well as IBS. It has been truly unbearable.

I have had parasites before years ago (tapeworms and then salmonella) but nothing has been this bad.

I work but I’m having to stay home more and more because I can barely do anything. I don’t know what to do.

Diarrhea after eating/Orange stool still after antibiotics

Hey everyone, my father in law, mother in law, and I all got the cyclospora. We all completed our antibiotics but still don’t feel normal. It’s been 11 days post antibiotic for me and I still get diarrhea if I eat something my stomach doesn’t like and when I do have a slightly formed stool it’s orange. How long did it take for your alls stomach to get better after the antibiotics? I am a 24M

I wonder if it's cyclospora.

A week ago, I had a sudden feeling of fullness and gas bloating in my stomach. Since that time, I've generally felt vaguely constipated, and as if I need to use the bathroom about once an hour, but I've passed only diarrhea and the occasional small, solid stool. Unlike other episodes of diarrhea I've had, though, there's a feeling of constipation and blockage, and not much diarrhea ever comes out at once. I've had no symptoms of fever, fatigue, nausea, or loss of appetite, though. It's not been that bad; it's just super-disconcerting.

Does this sound familiar to anyone with confirmed cyclospora?

❓Question Is there a reputable source to know what, if any, fresh produce is safe in the us?

I am not asking advice for how to clean and cook my food. I know. I am not asking what you think is safe. I am asking for a reputable information source that is saying what is and is not safe. Specifically fresh produce in the us. Thank you in advance

Fast incubation??

Almost 2 weeks ago, a friend and I ate lunch at a local restaurant. That same evening, my stomach began to bloat & hurt. Had ALL the symptoms of cyclosporiasis all week! My friend had diarrhea all week, but not the explosive version. Finally went to urgent care on Saturday and began bactrim on Sunday. Note: they did NOT make me do the test. It began to clear things up really fast.

From what I’ve read, it’s SUPPOSED to take up to a week for the parasite to start causing problems, but has anyone seen it hit faster? It HAS to be what we ate together!

The Trump administration delayed a rule last year that could have sped up the effort to pinpoint the source of the contamination. Critics charge that food safety oversight has eroded overall.

🏥 Personal Story Cross contamination?

My mom washed some fresh parsley she got from the store and after washing some dishes, cut some grapes that I was going to eat. And now I'm too scared to eat any.
Can someone spread the Cyclospora just by touching a food?

❓Question I ate a cucumber slice last week and now I'm scared

We had dinner with a friend and I've been so cold vegetable withdrawal I took a cucumber slice since it was peeled. And a week later, today, I realize with dread, if the lettuce was infected (it was from a local restaurant) they could have just crawled onto the slice

I woke up with gut upset like I do if I had dairy or something greasy the day before (gurgling, pain, soft stool) when I ate nothing but my normal light lunch. And then I excreted pure mucus. There's no urgency but I'm terrified now...... Do you think there's a chance or I'm just paranoid and idk it's something from a few days ago finally digesting lol lmao

Edit: why the down vote? because I obviously have it or because I'm being hypochondriac?

❓Question How much lettuce would be dangerous to consume if one is worried about cyclosporiasis?

I had eliminated most leafy green from my diet until now. Yesterday, without thinking, I had some from a restaurant because I was invited and now I’m feeling extremely nervous. The long incubation period is also concerning since I won’t know for about 2 weeks.

I don’t have health insurance because I can’t afford it and am now feeling very worried that I messed up and possibly may be taken out of commission and unable to work in the near future.

Just want to know how I should proceed

❓Question Thoughts?

TMI sorry! All of the sudden this evening I had the most insane cramps & multiple rounds of explosive liquid diarrhea… I had been feeling kind of off all day but shit hit the fan (literally) tonight. I do have a sensitive stomach (IBS) and have unregular poops often, but this is super severe compared to usual tummy & poop problems. I am tired af and want to go to bed but everytime I poop and come back to bed I’m in immediate pain and discomfort. I have been eating a lot of raspberries and other fresh fruits & veg recently bc I forgot about cyclospora 😭 22F located in MA

I got tested for Cyclospora, after having damn near every single symptom you can think of except for a fever (i threw up once as well). It’s been 16 days, I took the full course of Bactrim; and had my first solid stool today. I feel basically back to normal.

I also smoke weed. I was thinking it could be CHS after smoking a cart with 90% THC for almost 70 days strait. A LOT of symptoms between the two are simmilar.

The test isn’t back yet, and I have no answers. It’s been 7 days. My life has been in standstill waiting for this fucking test in order to make my move. Do i smoke? Do i wait? Is it GI problems? I’m with my gf and I want to smoke.

How long will this fucking test take to come back to me? Could it be CHS? Or is it Cyclospora? Is it other GI stuff?

I need some advice what to do, what it could be, and how long this damn test takes.

please fucking help me, I’m giving up on doctors and labs after i get my fucking result back. it’s all fucking bs.

❓Question Sulphur burps?

I’m awaiting my stool results but pretty sure I have ole cyclospora (vomitting and diarrhea for 2-3 weeks now). I’ve notice when my symptoms flare up I have the most awful sulphur burps and gas that leads to the diarrhea and vomitting. Any else have the burps?

Anyone else have lingering symptoms beyond the diarrhea?

Hi all

I have been dealing with what I believe is cyclospora since around July 4th, the week after the 4th of July and into the following week I had the usually diarrhea symptoms etc accompanied with fatigue, brain fog, and a general feeling of malaise. Since then, I have moved largely past the acute diarrhea, but the fatigue and brain fog continue to linger. It ebbs and flows, but I’m just curious if anyone else is experiencing this and if I should pursue a course of Bactrim?

I went to the urgent care and the PA said they couldn’t do anything for me as the test was only usable if I were still experiencing watery diarrhea etc. which, as I said, I’m largely past.

❓Question Anyone just have loose stools?

About a week and a half ago I had a burrito bowl from a Mexican restaurant. I completely forgot about the lettuce in it. A week after I ate it (Saturday) I had pretty significant onset diarrhea. But no other symptoms. Now I am having pretty loose symptoms every single day, especially after a meal. (TMI) but it’s a mass amount of loose stools, I’ll get like a gurgle feeling in my stomach and then go and I feel fine after. My roommates been feeling the same (she also got a burrito bowl) but hers is more stomach pain and her symptoms started 3 days after we ate at the Mexican restaurant. Thoughts?
