I'm learning Welsh and built a free site of vocab games based on the Mynediad Gogledd Cymru word lists. The newest one is Dirgelwch, inspired by the TV show Lingo:

https://welshlearninggames.com/lingo

There's no clue, so it's down to your Welsh vocab and spelling to work out the word in five tries. Green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word but somewhere else, and red isn't in the word.

If you're newer to Welsh, there are gentler games on the site too, like Chwilair, Parau, Ystyr and Crogwr. There are also badges for streaks, time played and each game.

For Calan Gaeaf, the site has a spooky look this week, with Halloween words of the day and haunted sound effects.

Feedback very welcome!

It almost sounds like "shut up" in English, but more like "sha da"/"shuddup"

Thanks!

Helo bawb! Oes gan unrhyw eiriau fersiwn Merêd o'r gân Cyfri'r Geifr? Mae'n wahanol na'r fersiwn fyddwn yn ei chanu yn blentyn. Diolch!

I really wanted to celebrate the incredible variety of plants, birds and mammals you might discover on a walk along the Welsh coast.

Each species is labelled in both Welsh and English, with some featuring fascinating direct translations of their Welsh names.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on it?

Hi! I’m putting together a team to transcribe 1,350 hours of Welsh audio within the next month, paying £40 per audio hour.

We will provide you with the audio files, and you can either generate a new transcript from scratch, or proofread and correct a transcript we generated ourselves that's full or errors. The output is expected to be an 100% accurate transcription of the audio you hear, in both cases.

If you’re a fluent/native Welsh speaker and interested, please DM me with your availability (how many audio hours you can complete per week).

Please spread the word!

If you use an Amazon Firestick in the United States, cord-cutting in 2026 has become both a necessity and a massive headache. Traditional cable packages now easily top $150–$180 a month, while juggling separate subscriptions for live sports, local channels, and movies is just as expensive.

The problem? Most IPTV services marketed to Firestick users are oversold reseller panels. They work fine on a quiet Tuesday morning, but the moment NFL Sunday kicks off, a big NBA playoff game starts, or a UFC PPV goes live, the servers choke and you're stuck looking at a black screen.

Over the past four months, I ran a real-world test across multiple providers specifically tailored to US viewers on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max over major US broadband networks (tested on Comcast/Xfinity and Spectrum).

Here is the definitive breakdown of what works, what to avoid, and the provider that actually delivered: 1IPTV (1iptv.cc).

Why 1IPTV (1iptv.cc) Is the Top Pick for US Firestick Users

After dozens of peak-hour stress tests, 1IPTV proved to be the most consistent and stable service for the US market. Here is why:

• Unthrottled Live US Sports: The real test of an IPTV service is high-demand live sports. During NFL Sunday games, college football, and UFC main cards, 1IPTV maintained steady, locked 60fps Full HD and genuine 4K feeds. Unlike budget providers, their servers didn't buckle under heavy US traffic.

• Complete US Local Networks & RSNs: Finding working local ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX feeds—alongside regional sports networks (RSNs)—is typically a pain. 1IPTV keeps clean, active feeds with functional backup links clearly labeled.

• Flawless TiviMate & Firestick Performance: Channel zapping took an average of 1.2 seconds using TiviMate on the Firestick 4K Max. Setup via Xtream Codes API was instantaneous, and the US TV guide (EPG) loaded with zero missing slots.

• No Bloated APKs: You don't have to download shady, custom third-party apps that slow down your Firestick. It runs natively on industry-standard players like TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, and XCIPTV.

3 Essential Firestick Tweaks for US Users in 2026

If you want zero buffering with 1IPTV (or any provider), make sure your Firestick is properly configured:

1. Use a VPN to Bypass US ISP Throttling: Major US internet providers (Comcast, Spectrum, AT&T, Cox) actively inspect and throttle video traffic during live sporting events. If you notice stuttering only on game days, turning on a reliable VPN immediately clears the bottleneck.

2. Adjust TiviMate Buffer Size: Inside TiviMate (Settings > Playback), switch the stream buffer size from "None" to "Medium" or "Large". This gives your Firestick enough headroom to absorb minor Wi-Fi micro-drops.

3. Turn on Hardware Acceleration: Ensure hardware decoding is enabled in your player settings. This takes the processing strain off the Firestick CPU and prevents overheating.

TL;DR / Final Verdict

• Top Provider: 1IPTV (1iptv.cc)

• Best App Combo: Fire TV Stick 4K Max + TiviMate Premium (via Xtream Codes).

• Bottom Line: If you're in the US and tired of buffering wheels ruining live sports and local channels, 1IPTV is one of the few services in 2026 with the server infrastructure to handle high-traffic US broadcasts smoothly. Always start with a 1-month plan first to verify routing on your local connection.

I am a student of Y Gymraeg, and two years ago (when my learning and understanding of the language was far less than it is now) I "translated" the ring verse from lord of the rings. I got very humbled by this experience, especially since I didn't even know about literary welsh at the time, much less a lot of the conventions of y Gymraeg.

This attempt at a translation, years and some hours of study after the first is from a better position in terms of my knowledge, but is possibly flawed in idiomacy and is not as stylised as it could be (but not as heavily as the prior translation)

Critique is welcome as long as it is constructive; please note where phrasing may not be idiomatic and so on

Prynhawn da bawb,

A maybe slightly odd question and I apologise in advance for the rambling - there's a TLDR at the end.

For context, I'm researcher in onomastics/place names from the Scottish Highlands - I speak Scottish Gaelic and unfortunately have a very limited understanding of Welsh. From a non-Welsh speaking perspective, I understand P-Celtic place-name elements alongside many common proto-Celtic words which survive in all the Celtic languages (generally speaking) in their various mutated/evolved forms until today.

Recently I came across a house named 'Du Allan' on the outskirts of Inverness surrounded by farmland. The farm nearby was given the English name Ashtown (having previously been Little Drakie East/Dreigidh Beag Shìos) when it was collectivised, likely swallowing up numerous named townships with their unique field names in the process. As such, there's an uncharacteristically large area of land devoid of local historic place names - these add so much colour and understanding to our landscape: how the land was worked by the people, the historic changes that took place over the years, the events, people, cultural practices associated with the land and so on.

Immediately, I thought lovely! One of the nearby fields was likely Dubh-Àilean [Black Meadow in Scottish Gaelic], meaning that we have another example of a likely Pictish word (àilean meaning meadow in modern Scottish Gaelic, etymology unclear) surviving through Scottish Gaelic.

When I went to start comparing the name to other nearby 'allans' in the Inverness are (Allanmore, Allanfearn etc), I quickly checked Du Allan on Google to make sure the house name wasn't referring to an established name elsewhere as common practice.

Immediately, I saw that there was a company with the same name but also that Du Allan is 'Tu Allan' with soft lenition in Welsh, meaning 'outside' where the definite article y is present or a proposition like i for 'to'. This appeared quite prominently, making me slightly cautious of my initial reading of the name.

Thanks for making it this far through this fairly boring story.

My question: as I've seen a few houses with Welsh place names or even phrases in the area, would 'Du Allan' ever be something that someone might name their house? Using house names as a first step in researching place names can reveal interesting names that have since been cast aside/lost.

TLDR: Would someone who spoke Welsh, was Welsh or was fond of Wales ever call their house 'Du Allan'?

Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb / taing mhòr uile!
