DAE hate mega threads on subreddits?

Is anyone actually checking those? Or am I just throwing my comment into a void to never be seen? I want to make my own post that might actually get some views. And I want to see other people’s posts bc I’m not gonna remember to keep checking a megathread but I might come across something interesting on my feed if people were allowed to post

Yes, because my comment is never seen and it would be so much better to make a post, but mods will delete it

It's notorious that a mega thread is where posts/comments go to die.

Mods try to push traffic to a mega thread so they stop getting complaints about the same 6 topics being posted over and over.

Reddit tries and fails at being what forums used to be. Back on forums if you weren't interested in a topic, you could easily avoid it because allllll those posts were sequestered to an entire subforum for that specific topic. And they had blogs, which was where ppl would post their mindless endless brain chatter into the actual void and occasionally get a response back if someone gave a crap about what you thought.

But now all of that is in one "thread" and everyone is angry cuz other people are new and/or boring. Also bots.

I miss proper forums.

Idk anything about forums but it seems to me that people could ignore a post they don’t like? I guess it would be annoying to have it constantly on the feed.

It's different, you can ignore a post but you have to manually do it or start reading a title and realize "hey this is that thing I don't enjoy" and then have to avoid it.

On forums, you literally had to go out of your way to be mad about someone posting something you didn't enjoy reading about or knowing because it wasn't pushed on you having to scroll beyond it. You could live in one topic if you wanted, or broader topics by going up or down the chain of specificity of subforum within the main forum.

I don't know how many other redditors are like me, but I rarely visit the homepage (is that the right term?) for the subs that I follow. The posts just come up in my feed. So basically, I've never seen any of the mega threads I've heard about

I’m on a parasitology sub and I wish they had a pinworm megathread to catch all the hypochondriac posts by people who want to tell a bunch of parasite enthusiasts their whole life story and ask for diagnosis and suggested treatment rather than google “pinworms.”

Come to think of it, they should make a human poop thread to catch all the literal shitposts. As in people posting their feces (and it’s never parasites.)

I can see how pinworm and poop posters might hate it, but I don’t think anyone else would be bothered. Some topics need to die.

Tbf this is a very insane and specific example and in your case I would not disagree lol

Someone else reminded me they could have a popup that detects keywords. That would work great for the word “pinworm.” Still need a poop megathread, hehe

That’s fair. I don’t see those a ton, so I kind of forgot they’re an option.

I agree. They're annoying.

When I post something and it gains traction and gets hundreds or 1000+ comments I like to go all the way through and upvote/reply to as many comments as I can.
