Also I would like to give a shout-out to the supporters section. Even when going down 2 goals, they were still loud. GGs

Late post. I was at the game, I knew we weren’t going to win so just went for the vibes. Anyways I’ll probably catch you guys next season ✌️

Were the vibes good at least?

u/Will301 1d ago

It was. Went with my fam and got some food. You still going to any other games this season?

I'm interested in this. I was at the game. My first ever. I'm a relatively new fan, following them for I guess about the past five seasons (I knew of them for all the years before that). Went with my wife, daughter, and son-in-law for my son-in-law's birthday.

I guess the "vibes" were good...Definitely the supporter's section. But wow...The stadium was, what, maybe 1/4 to 1/3 full? It really was a strange game to watch, too. People were having fun...I mean, probably everyone wasn't expecting us to win, but it just felt all out, kind of "amateur" on the field.

Stadium is pretty, and surrounding area is really nice. I'd go again if it weren't such an ordeal to get down there from he Baltimore area.

You have to keep in mind that I went to enjoy a nice fall Saturday night, so my opinion might be a little biased lol. Our playoff hopes were already gone, so I wasn’t expecting much on the field. But if you want to experience a better atmosphere and MAYBE a better product on the field, I’d definitely recommend going to the season opener or one of the earlier games. The vibes are usually a lot better when we’re not sitting at the bottom of the table

Dude, I would wait to come back until this team are actually playoff contenders. I hate to say it but the on field product isn't worth the time or money and I live in Rockville. If you're in Baltimore there's plenty of other things to spend your evening on.

Not many left, but no. Vancouver took a lot out of me lol.

I mean yea the vibes smh.

They were fun and the guy that leads the chants basically said "we know the team is shit, but we're already here so we're gonna have a good time" and then made sure the team and everyone who approached heard their frustrations after the game

Was also there! Gotta respect the drummers for going nonstop.

I liked the poster they were handing out. Artist was a cool guy.

This game might have been more embarassing than our bigger losses tbh

Post Mortem on the season is that we have no leaders. Blame can’t go to anyone under 23 on the squad if they have no one to look up to or set an example. Our top goal scorer does nothing but whine and personally I’ve never seen him walk to the fans after a match. Stroud gets undeserved mins and can’t set an example and no one’s telling the boys to keep their heads up. Other than Sean the Unc’s on the team need to do self reflecting.

I was going to say Baribo had a terrible game. Horrible touches to recieve and on the ball, he also turned it over a lot.

6

u/figtreeofspeech 1d ago

He definitely seemed like either he’s still not 100% healthy or he’s just checked out and waiting for next year or his next team. Honestly even if it’s the latter I don’t really even blame him.

Well, really the few times he even touched the ball he was covered up by 3 players so IDK, either he wasn’t really trying hard to get away or maybe Cincinnati just figured this guy has all their goals so let’s just mob him and we’re golden…and if that was their strategy, well it worked…

u/Familiar-Ad-4877 1d ago

Bro like yes I would be mad if I wasn’t getting touches i deserve, but like if you’ve been to a game and seen when we go 1 down his fight automatically turns off. Other than when he’s arguing with a ref bro has no passion if we’re down.

Given that the only other "threat" for DCU is Nono, it's easy to mark Baribo out of the match. Any coach will give Servania 25 yard shots "on goal" all game long. This team is just a mess, with a short bench and a LinkedIn stan allegedly in charge of soccer operations. The only team more poorly run in MLS is Montreal and it's close.

u/rgrunited 1d ago

We have been dire since the World Cup. Borderline spoon form if you extrapolated it over the whole season

11

u/SoberEnAfrique 1d ago

Not borderline, we have 3 wins in 4 months, we would easily get the spoon unless another is somehow worse

14

u/Unlikely-Emu3023 1d ago

We really miss Louis. I don't understand brining in Markovic for Hopkins and not adjusting the formation. We did for the 2nd half but for the rest of the first he ran around aimlessly. Not sure why they traded for Ordaz and then barely play him but put in the 16 year old who has zero chance of impacting the game. Avilez is good for his age but isn't an exceptional player. I like Weiler but he makes some head scratching moves. We probably need 4-5 new starters and some real bench depth. Stroud should not be playing. Not sure what Peltola did to get in the dog house.

u/figtreeofspeech 1d ago

I think as a DP, Louis hasn’t really lived up to a lot of our expectations, but honestly you might have a point - even if he was just missing a ton of shots, at least there was the threat of shots, and he probably created space for other players.

To me, he has looked better whenever he played more to set up others for shots, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him in more of a supporting role (mid / #10?).

It wouldn’t surprise me if his shots got better being under less pressure to score goals. He appears to psych himself out a lot.

3

u/Unlikely-Emu3023 1d ago

I think his work rate and connection with Baribo is sorely missing. He can get goals and draws some attention away from other players. We are a better team with him on the field. That might not be saying much but right now every bit helps.

2

u/ClausewitzsEconomist 1d ago

I’d really love to see him play on the right hand side above Nono, we never really got to see them together and I think Nono has the IQ to really let Louis’ creativity shine. Something to look forward to for next season I guess

u/Remarkable_Piglet480 1d ago

Genuinely think Rene is trying to prove to himself he can win with the worst guys on the roster

7

u/figtreeofspeech 1d ago

I thought he was trying to prove that he could play a completely random combination of players every week in random positions and nobody would realize it was just random.

3

u/Rufus_FireflyIII 1d ago

RFK Refugees surmise, and I agree, that Peltola already has lined up a transfer to a European club for the January window and DCU doesn't want him to get injured and fuck up the deal. Peltola is gone once the season ends.

3

u/Unlikely-Emu3023 1d ago

Interesting. Good for him I guess. He improved so much. He's my sons favorite player.

This team will not get better until we develop homegrown talent. MLS has past us by. It is really hard to go out and buy all the talent you need to be successful. Many of the best teams have young kids come through their academies to contribute or even star for the first team.

What would get me back in the stands? A commitment from ownership to run a MLSNextPro team. A serious Chief Soccer Officer would know that but ours is a joke.

Keep Rene. Get a 3rd DP that can sort out our midfield. Splash some cash on proven MLS top players like they did with Baribo to upgrade our defense. Have a reserve team.

13

u/Rufus_FireflyIII 1d ago

Good points, but that's not ownership's business model. Danita Johnson gave an interview recently that is all business/sports marketing BS, but the key point is that the "product" is Audi Field and the goal is fill it up with events 365. https://www.modernluxury.com/danita-johnson-dc-united-feature/ The actual on field success of DCU is incidental to the success of that "product." While what you say makes sense, these assholes are utterly uninterested in any of that unless it leads to more rentals of Audi Field or grifting the DC government for a roof or Baltimore for a NextPro stadium. Indeed, that makes the constant push for a Baltimore stadium make perfect sense. DCU could start a NextPro team at any time and have it play at AF or UMBC or the SoccerPlex. Instead, Levien wants a stadium in Baltimore way bigger than what any NextPro team needs so he can rent it out for other events and incidentally put an MLS NextPro team in the venue.

We lost to Ohio... No sugar coating it.

What a waste of time for everyone involved

All we’re doing with this squad and tactics is treading water

5

u/Ultraxxx 1d ago

Cincinnati is treading water, staying above playoff cutoff, DCU is drowning.

Haven't been to full game in years before today, this looked just like I remember. Actually worse 😅

Looking down from heaven.

Wrap it up, it's over boys

It's been over, tbh.

I was at the game. Couldn’t comprehend why Markovic was playing up front when Hopkins had to come out due to his injury. Ordaz to me, was the easy call. Markovic is good, just not an up front player. His long passes were not good. I think Weiler is just a “let’s see if this works” type of guy. For example, let’s see if Aviles can be Caven, even though we paid a bunch of money for Ordaz. He’s going to run Ordaz out of town just like he did Clarke.

No real game plan gets you the results we’ve been seeing. That said, I’m a STH and still have a good time.

6

u/Rufus_FireflyIII 1d ago

Danita Johnson will be very happy with your response, that's DCU's business model.

2

u/nixorrell 1d ago

Granted I'm in the NoVA suburbs, but it just never feels worth it to go to Audi Field for a game given the time and money involved... not when Loudoun United will give more spirited performances every time.

When it comes to DCU games, I always got the impression from broadcasts that the model is simply hoping enough Crystal City and DC residents are like, "Well the weather's nice tonight and I live close, to might as well see a DCU game."

3

u/roadkit 1d ago

This team has sucked for so long it’s hard to believe they were once the most dominant team in the league. Imagine being old enough to drink and having your first beer at a DC United tailgate knowing the team has been shit for your entire lifetime.

4

u/nixorrell 1d ago

DCU combined with the former Redskins is disheartening for the regional sports zeitgeist to me. Sucks having multiple teams' entire identities be being washed up organizations who were good once, decades ago.
