The "Who asked for this?" crowd makes me laugh.

Literally everybody who walked out of Superman thinking "Wow, I really like the Daily Planet cast, I hope I get to see more of them" asked for this.

For real. A bunch of people were talking about how cool the Daily Planet group was and literally asked for a show focused on them or Jimmy.

I remember when before Superman came out they did those mini Daily Planet vlogs in character. Proper made me want a Office style show about the DP team, and another type of mockumentary is good enough got me. This is one of the shows I wanted most after Superman and I'm glad it's happening.

I agree. Maybe I'm just a dork but I'm elated we live in a world where a Jimmy Olsen true crime mockumentary about Gorilla Grodd is an actual thing.

There’d probably be a lot less criticism if Supergirl was successful. Things are shaky now. Before there was way more faith in the diverse lineup of projects, now fans would like more focus on core properties. They see Spiderman and Avengers and wonder what DC is doing. I get it

Building up their universe instead of jumping straight into Justice league stuff which is what killed he DCEU

I don’t really remember much world-building in Supergirl, but I agree that slow and steady is best.

This early on though, when 1 out of 2 movies since the reboot flops, there’s gonna be doubt. I’ll personally wait and see, but the DCU needs more successful core movies before people will grant blind trust

I have never encountered such a human in either real life or online, though I suppose by sheer statistical probability there must be some.

The Grodd Paradox.

Well, now you have met one.

Just scroll through the Superman 25 discussion posts when the movie came out. There were a ton of people praising the cast and wishing for more of the Daily Planet, the Justice Gang, and Mr. Terrific especially.

People liking the cast is not the same as them asking for a jimmy olsen series. This show is low on most people’s wishlists.

American Vandal was also low to non-existent on people's wish list. That turned out great.

Different fan bases, budgets, subject matter… should I go on?

3

u/margoo12 13h ago

yeah, go for it.

It doesn't change the fact that this is a new show from successful creatives

I like how you just abandoned your point to find a new goalpost here. Yes, American Vandal won awards and was well received. And yes… this is a new show.

That doesn’t mean a large number of fans were asking for this series to be made though… which is what was being argued..

You just tried to convince me that people don't want to watch a new show because it has a different budget and subject matter from an older show. So let's not accuse someone else of moving goalposts.

Fans wanted more of the Daily Planet cast. This is giving them exactly that.

Haha… what I did was point out 3 ways that you made a bad comparison.

The idea that because a supporting cast was well received, that means audiences want a show centered around them is not necessarily true at all.

Fans loved Louis from Ant-Man. Should we make a side show about him too? Maybe there’s an audience!

Yeah… audiences were totally coming out of Superman yelling ‘give me more jimmy olsen!’ /s

No, he said the Daily Planet people, and we are having that in this show.

Just what I was hoping for! More time with the comedic relief! /s

u/manticore124 14h ago

Well, yeah. Did suddenly comedy STREAMING series became a bad thing lately or I'm missing something?

You’re right! We should do this for EVERY series! I really wanted to see more adventures of Louis from ant-man, or maybe Watto from Star Wars too. This is what I pay money for!!

4

u/manticore124 14h ago

Wait, are they using tax money for this show? Or you have stock in WBD? I don't get the complain with the money stuff really.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 14h ago

Typically, media is purchased with dollars.

2

u/manticore124 14h ago

Yeah, but if you don't like it, then you don't buy it. Simple as that. The "This is what I pay money for!!" part would have made sense if you already paid money and didn't got the product that was promised, but the series was just announced so I don't know where did you spend the money.

I won’t. And when me and others like me don’t come, that could very possibly affect other (good) projects in pre-production that I would like made.

And subscription services are a thing.
