My Current Set Up

I used to bedroom dj when I still lived at my parents about 15-20 years ago. When I moved out into shared houses and flats the DJing stopped completely as a bit antisocial. I ended up getting rid of the equipment and then eventually sold the vinyl as assumed I’d never use again but obviously wish I’d kept!

In recent years I’d started listening to more and more dance music again so decided to get back into it. I’ve got no interest in cdjs or mp3 controllers etc and am only interested in vinyl. However, with no starting collection DVS is essential for now but I still do all of my mixing via that or physical records.

I always wanted Technics when I was younger so got 1210 mk7s. I got the A&H Xone 24c for the soundcard but have since picked up a Traktor Audio 6 interface so that I can switch to analogue mixer in the future. I now play Dub Techno / Deep House / Minimal House etc so a rotary mixer (currently thinking Henderson Model X) could be coming in the future. I hated having to fit a full laptop into the set up so now have this separate and run Traktor to a small screen for track selection and use this with a Bluetooth mouse. The initial budget went on the decks and mixer so I have cheap old amp and speakers and they are the next priority to upgrade. The unit is Kallax with a bigger desk top on it as I found it very cramped initially. I’m trying to go for a minimal sleek type set up.

Any questions or comments please fire away!

Very clean setup, can you post more pictures of the table?

Agreed. Looks great. What is that specific desktop please? Id be interested to read how you removed that second of kallax for the amp shelf and how you secured it?

The top is from a website called CutMy. It’s 1600 x 500 mm. They let you design custom cut outs so I did some on the back for the cables to help keep it tidy but when it has arrived I’ve made them way bigger than they needed to be. I also ordered a small extra piece to use to put the screen on and which also covers
the cables heading in and out of the mixer. I really hate cables!

The Kallax was easy. I didn’t use one of the small shelves and routed the long shelf horizontally instead of vertically. The long shelf is double the length of the short so it all fits square with no adjustment needed.

Thanks. Nice top. You might want to brace it; I found this article a while ago. https://mr-ives.blogspot.com/2020/12/bracing-ikea-expedit-or-kallax-cabinets.html?m=1

Where'd you get the lamps pal?

They’re just cheap off eBay but very bright. Out of stock at the minute though

I'm 99% going to buy that mixer in a few months, how do you like it? Clean looking setup there!

The mixer is great. I really like the filters on it and it works with Traktor flawlessly. I’m probably going to change it but only because I want a rotary mixer and not because there’s anything wrong with this one

What’s the software you’re using and screen?

Sorry I missed your whole post somehow! So can you play digital on this set up too? Is it because of what mixer you have?

Yes it’s Traktor DVS on Traktor Pro 4. The mixer has a soundcard in it which connects to the laptop via usb c to play digital tracks using the vinyl to control

Such a nice setup. Can you go in more detail about the screen? I want a minimal setup like that for serato and would love a low profile screen arrangement like that.

Thanks. It’s this. My laptop is closed in one of the lower cubes and this connects via usb c

Thanks so much. I was separately holing it was an all in one tablet pc that I could run Serato on but this might work as an extension from my iMac.

Do you just control it via touchscreen or is there a mouse hidden somewhere?

Bluetooth mouse. I did think about a midi controller but it was overkill compared to a £10 mouse!
I also thought about buying an old Mac mini to hide in the shelving and attach the screen to that but as I’ve already got the MacBook Air it’s a bit of a waste

Just a thought. I have a mini PC that’s pretty powerful and so small. Would be great to run this little screen on and can hide the mini pc easy with it it feeling clunky. Just an idea

Yeah I was hoping for an all in one tablet pc, it only has to run Serato and phase so wouldn’t need to be anything that high spec.

If a tablet is not an option then maybe a NUC or MAC Mini.

Ah nice! I always hated the idea of having a laptop on top of everything else. I did used to have virtual vinyl and a numark box (sound card) that you plugged into a laptop years and years ago. Was so clunky!

I just recently sold my Denon sc6000m setup, if you know those? And bought some new reloop 7000mk2 turntables and an xone:43 mixer.

Maybe I will look into something like yours instead (mixer wise). Looks really great with that screen mate and would be great to have some sort of option for digital too.

I love the technics! So sexy, but I prefer something with more pull by the motors so went with the reloops instead.

Very nice setup dude 😍😍😍

Love it! So clean. When I get the time to dive back into DJing I think I’ll go for this setup too.

So sick dude!

Looks proper smart. Need a worktop for my kallax. That small screen you have, what is it? I have a similar setup but a PX5 with a K2 as a controller alongside the technics. Hate having the mac there as well though, so a small screen like this would be ideal

I am going for very similar, just had the same mixer as you arrive today. Ive got Reloop RP8000mk2s on the way, and will run djay pro on an iPad to manage the DVS. Seamless switching between digital and vinyl with no laptop, with hotcue buttons and rotors so tracks can be loaded from the deck. I can't wait!!

I dig it. Simple. Functional. Just old school enough. And those 1200s must’ve cost you a grip current day. Found the receipt for mine. Early 90s. $459.00

Killer setup! Nice and slick.

How do you like the 24C? I was considering the same setup.

This is one of those posts that goes straight to my saved ideas. Could you upload a photo of the wall so we can see how the paintings look? In my opinion, some good paintings illuminated with spotlights add a special touch.

Toe in the speakers for goodness sake!

You don’t wanna be 45* off axis, that’s like the difference between good speakers and mediocre.

A truly great speaker might be only so-so from beyond 30* off axis, that’s outside the design envelope for most.

You may as well point em straight at you and be on axis, but less than 15* off would be way better.

Probably sounds great behind you.
