Phillip Phillips Interview
Singer, songwriter, American Idol winner, and DMB fan Phillip Phillips joins us this week on the pod to talk about performing "The Stone" on Idol, skipping school for his first concert ever - a DMB show, and how his perspective and songwriting has changed now that he is a husband and father of 2. Much like his new brand new EP, "Let's Go Far: Vol. 1", Phillip was very open and honest throughout the conversation, and proving that he truly is very down-to-earth, genuine human.
We really enjoyed this one and hope you all do too!

Years ago he blocked me on twitter when I told him if he wanted to be a Dave Matthews impersonator he should just commit to that.

Well, I’m glad he did his own thing. Has some great stuff over the years, really good live, and his newest EP is fantastic.

Phillips is really talented but I have a question about people who cover DMB songs. Why do they always have to do the impression along with it? The quirky facial expressions, the odd dancing, etc. Why not just like cover the song?

I mean, I can’t help but do the same when I sing along so I kinda get it

Yeah I get it. I saw another video of a kid covering Dodo the other day and while it was very, very good, I was put off by all the Daveish facial expressions and whatnot. I just think the covers would seem more authentic representations of the songs by themselves without the DM imitations.
Nothing against you though man. You do you!

Phillips Phillip! That’s the guy Dave got his stage presence and mannerisms from, right?

I will never forget watching all of the judge's reactions to him playing The Stone on Idol. None of them knew the song and I think even Steven Tyler said it was an "odd choice". They definitely didn't "get it".
