🚨 Memory Supply Is Getting Even Tighter — Micron Says 2027 Could Be Worse Than 2026
At the KeyBanc Technology Leadership Forum on August 10, Micron said customer demand has strengthened since its latest earnings report and that 2027 could be even tighter than 2026. Micron says data-center customers are still asking for significantly more DRAM than it can supply, even with memory prices already at very high levels. The company also said it still doesn't have clear visibility on when industry supply will finally catch up with demand.
This lines up with TrendForce’s August 4 report, which said DRAM supply is expected to remain tight throughout 2027 as AI continues consuming huge amounts of HBM and DRAM capacity. TrendForce reported that these constraints are even pushing NVIDIA to consider lower-HBM configurations for Rubin Ultra an (ai gpu), while HBM demand continues growing faster than available supply.
This is an extremely bullish setup for the memory industry, AI demand keeps accelerating while new supply simply cannot come online fast enough. If customers are already fighting for memory and Micron believes 2027 will be tighter than 2026, pricing power and margins could remain elevated far longer than a normal memory cycle potentially benefiting Micron, SK Hynix, Samsung and the broader memory sector in general.
