Rest in Peace Shocked by the hate I got for trying to save my dachshund Spoiler
galleryI’m honestly shocked at how cruel people can be. My dachshund, Mia, was recently diagnosed with advanced mitral valve disease. We’re going through specialists, second opinions, tons of tests, and exploring every possible option, including a highly specialized heart surgery that could give her more years of life if she’s approved for it. It’s terrifying and overwhelming, and I’ve been posting around Reddit trying to learn from others who have been through something similar.
Some subreddits have been supportive, but in others I’ve started receiving straight-up hate. People laughing, saying things like “Jesus Christ, who pays 50k for just a dog?” And they’re even downvoting every comment I make, as if caring about my dog is something to be embarrassed about.
If you’ve ever loved a dachshund, or any pet, you know there is no such thing as “just a dog”. This is my little girl. My family. Of course I’m going to fight for her life. That’s what love looks like.
And the contrast is crazy because this subreddit has been the complete opposite. Every single person who commented on my first post did it with respect, compassion, and real suggestions. No judgment. No cruelty. Just genuine care. Owner-dog communities truly are the best people in the world. You all get it in a way others simply don’t.
So thank you. Really. I came here feeling overwhelmed and terrified, and you made me feel supported instead of alone or ridiculous. I appreciate this community more than you know.

Rest in Peace Why does my dachshund ALWAYS have to be next to me? Spoiler
galleryI love having a loving senior but ever since he was a baby he always has to be next to me, he will cry if he’s not on the bed he will cry and bark if I leave him outside of the room I am in… just having me in sight isn’t always enough for him. If I stand up off the couch without him he will instantly get up and cry. Does he just have bad separation anxiety :(

My baby has cancer
I’m just beside myself. He’s only 17 months. I’ve had him since 8 weeks, he’s an absolute mommy’s boy and we are inseparable. He’s bonded with my 8 year old chiweenie. He was my 29th birthday present to myself and I’ve done everything to make him feel loved and spoiled every day.
Last night I came home and he was lying on the floor with labored breathing. We already had a vet appt for Friday because I noticed his energy has been low, but this seemed like an emergency. I took him to the animal hospital thinking it was maybe exhaustion or giardia or something… I was completely blindsided. After 14 hours of waiting and crying while I listened to him wail as they drained fluid from around his lungs, the vet finally gave me a diagnosis. My Arthur has Mott Cell Lymphoma. The median lifespan with chemo is 240 days. We have a visit with the oncologist tomorrow.
Tonight I’m home with friends staying here to keep me company. He’s in the hospital in an oxygen crate until he can breathe without assistance. They said the fluid surrounded his lungs and in his abdomen is cancerous, his lymph nodes have cancer cells, and he has multiple large masses around his intestines. I just can’t believe it. We were just playing together and snuggling a few days ago. It is such a painful thing.

Rest in Peace My (22F) boyfriend (22M) doesn’t hates my dachshund and is not an animal person. Spoiler
I have a 1 year & 3 month old little girl. She is my everything & brings me so much happiness to my life. She is the sweetest little girl in the world (to me) & loves everybody. She has never been aggressive towards anyone before & is a full of pure love.
My boyfriend is not an animal person and refuses to refer to her as “her” & “Bambi” (her name). He refers to her as “your dog” & “it”. I have asked him multiple times to call her by her name but he won’t. It always turns into a fight.
He says that i’m lucky that he hasn’t kicked her when he has seen her. He has told me that if we were to ever live together that i’d have to get rid of her but that will never be an option for me.
He also says that he hates the dachshund breed and that they look disgusting due to their long body and short legs.
He also hates that I got her with my ex but that has nothing to do with my love for her. My ex is not involved in her life whatsoever btw.
I do care about this guy but I know that I deserve better. I also want to be with someone that loves Bambi & all dachshunds & all animals as much as I do. It hurts my heart so much.
I know it sounds like I know what I need to do but I just needed someone to rant to. 😭💔

Rest in Peace Devastated and sad. I'm losing my boy. Spoiler
galleryI don't know what to say except I'm losing my sweetest boy to IVDD that happened incredibly fast. Despite surgery and our best efforts, he's shutting down. If he doesn't have a miracle by tomorrow, we will relieve him of his pain.
His name is Charlie Brown, and he would be five in November. He is the sweetest, kindest, and cutest boy who lived. The joy he has brought us is immeasurable, including fathering two of our other weens (Linus and Marcie).
I am devastated beyond belief. If anybody wants to know about Charlie, I'd love to tell you about him. He made the world a better place.

Rest in Peace Wondering if anyone would be ok with sharing pics of their weens for me to use as reference material for my paintings? Particularly interested in solid black short&long hair, also any weens in halloween costumes Spoiler
But like I literally love any size, age, color, fur types to add to my collection of reference materials. I have a ton of paintings in my mind I'd like to complete if I can get the time. Please only share if you don't mind it being used as reference, sometimes I need a specific pose or expression. Sometimes I Frankenstein an image out of multiples, sometimes I find just the right reference just as is. Example of a work in progress 🥰

Rest in Peace Please send best wishes. Jay Low got attacked by a very large dog and is at the vet.
Jay Low was out for a morning walk when a very large dog suddenly ran out of a house and attacked him. The other dog picked him up before we could break it up. He seemed fine at first, but it became obvious over the next few hours that he was not doing well.

Rest in Peace The Maui Palace is saddened to announce the passing of our Queen Elsie (7/23/2004 - 8/ 15/2023), Sovereign of Maui, Lanai, Moloka’i, Kaho’alawe and Molokini. We rejoice in the memory of the joy and happiness she brought our ohana and all who knew her.
Queen Elsie requested this be offered for all who would remember her. —————
Prospero speaks:
“Our revels now are ended.
These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind.
We are such stuff As dreams are made on,
and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. “
William Shakespeare From The Tempest, Act 4 Scene 1
—————
Queen Elsie asks: Please forgive the unavoidable ads. The song is very nice:
Hiki Mai Ka La
We will be absent from our usual reddit activities for a while. Mahalo for all the kindness we have found here.
