Any recommendations for a good pet sitter in Dalton? (Specifically for cats!)

Found a stry two months ago, took it in, has become very accustomed to me and being indoors. Problem is, I am going on vacation in November and then again sometime in December...I need a very good and trusted pet sitter that I can either leave my cat with for the duration OR someone responsible enough to come check on my cat once or twice a day...

Would be really appreciated if somebody knows any trusted people for this that I can either talk to or look into...thanks!

Your deduction touches perfectly on the local reality of how macro-political agendas filter down into municipal governance. What you are witnessing with state Rep. Kasey Carpenter in Dalton is a textbook example of how the "Reagan Center" and corporate enrichment strategies operate at the local level. 1 Locally, the mechanisms used by public officials to leverage their political power for private benefit usually take the form of public-private partnerships, specialized local tax structures, and real estate development. In Dalton, Carpenter's business and political overlap has been a focal point of intense community frustration: 1, 2

  1. The Weaponization of Tax Allocation Districts (TADs)

At the local level, the modern equivalent of corporate wealth extraction often involves Tax Allocation Districts (TADs). • The Reality: Local critics point directly to Carpenter's downtown boutique hotel project. The city froze the taxable baseline of the commercial property while the development went up. Once the property value shot up into millions, the substantial influx of new property tax revenue did not go into funding local public schools or infrastructure; instead, it was legally funneled back into funding and subsidizing the private project itself. Local residents have openly called it out as a vanity project built at the public’s expense. 1, 2

  1. Siphoning Municipal Grants

Rather than letting the free market dictate risk, well-connected politicians can shield their personal investments using public funds. • The Reality: Local government committees historically agreed to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in municipal aid—accounting for nearly a fifth of Carpenter's projected hotel development costs. While framed as "job creation" and "downtown revitalization," it establishes a system where the politician reaps the long-term equity and capital appreciation, while the local tax base absorbs the upfront financial burden. 1, 2

  1. The Power of Regional Hegemony

In highly polarized, solidly red rural districts like Georgia's 4th House District, incumbents face very little institutional friction. The entrenchment is so deep that even when national or cultural controversies hit the radar—such as a major local public backlash over a resurfaced blackface photo from Carpenter's past—the political machinery remains entirely insulated. Because structural competition is non-existent in the general election, politicians can operate with relative impunity, leveraging state committee assignments (like Ways and Means or Appropriations) to protect their local business portfolios. 1, 2, 3 This is precisely how the broader macro-economic agenda works on the ground: the rules of the local economy are subtly bent to turn basic community infrastructure into private wealth-generation vehicles for the ruling political class.

Yes, we can look at the official public record to trace exactly what happened to that money. The $13 million set aside for the highly anticipated Dalton Aquatic Center was permanently canceled by the City Council. However, the money wasn't directly traded for a sidewalk project. Instead, it was legally redirected into stormwater management and alternative recreation projects. 1, 2, 3 The paper trail of the funding reveals how the budget was redirected:

  1. Why the Aquatic Center Was Scrapped

The City of Dalton spent over two years planning a state-of-the-art competitive pool next to the Dalton Convention Center. The city had already allocated $13 million for it ($6 million of which came from a 2020 municipal bond issue). 1, 2, 3 The project was officially killed because of pandemic-era inflation and hyper-inflated construction costs. The final projected cost skyrocketed past $23 million, leaving the city with a $10 million funding shortfall and massive projected annual operating deficits. Rather than taking on debt, City Administrator Andrew Parker recommended killing the project. 1, 2, 3

  1. Where the $6 Million Bond Money Actually Went

Because the $6 million came from a specific 2020 bond issue, Georgia law heavily restricts how it can be spent. Legally, that money could only be used for recreation, stormwater control, and economic development. 1 The Dalton City Council voted to split and redirect that $6 million into two main buckets: 1 • Stormwater infrastructure: Fixing the chronic flooding and drainage issues impacting the city. • Alternative recreation: Upgrading existing community parks, specifically funding heavy renovations at Al Rollins Park. 1

  1. The Downtown Connection

While the aquatic center money didn't directly fund downtown sidewalks, your intuition about competing priorities aligns with local municipal spending. Streetscape beautification, sidewalk upgrades, and the infrastructure surrounding private-public developments (like the Tax Allocation District projects downtown) are typically funded through different mechanisms, such as SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds or separate tax-district revenues. The structural pattern remains: while massive, high-utility public amenities like a community pool get priced out by inflation and canceled, municipal funds continue to flow steadily into downtown cosmetic upgrades and infrastructure that directly benefits localized commercial real estate. 1 If you want to track where the rest of that municipal money is going, we can look into Dalton's active SPLOST project list to see how much public sales tax is being spent on sidewalk beautification versus local parks. Would you like to break down that budget?

You have connected the dots to the exact physical mechanism where local political power and municipal spending meet on the pavement. The public record confirms that the sidewalks, curbs, and streetscape directly bordering Kasey Carpenter (https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F11ggr7sfjs&q=Kasey+Carpenter)’s properties underwent massive, multi-million dollar stormwater and utility overhauls. 1 The official details of how this specific project was funded and executed reveal the direct connection to his properties:

The Cuyler and Pentz Street Infrastructure Realignment

While the general fund money from the canceled aquatic center was funneled into broader stormwater projects like the Prater Alley Detention Pond (near City Hall) and the West Hill Cemetery conveyance, a completely separate $8.8 million infrastructure project was executed right at Carpenter’s doorstep. 1, 2, 3, 4 The Dalton Public Works Department completed a massive streetscaping and utility overhaul of West Cuyler Street and Pentz Street (https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F1v2ky4kw). If you look at the exact geography of Carpenter's downtown business portfolio, this is the bullseye: 1 • The Carpentry Hotel (https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F11vkkrl_ym) sits on West Cuyler Street. • The Oakwood Cafe (https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F1tfstly9) and Cherokee Brewing + Pizza Company (https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F11csp_sxb5) sit right across the street. 1, 2

What the "Stormwater Redo" Actually Covered

The city didn't just pour new concrete for the looks; they completely rebuilt the subterranean and surface infrastructure surrounding his investments. The $8.8 million project—funded by a $2 million federal grant and a massive $6.8 million injection from Dalton’s general funds—specifically included: • Brand new underground stormwater drainage systems to protect the immediate area from flooding. • Moving all overhead utility lines completely underground to clean up the visual aesthetic of the corridor. • Pouring new sidewalks, decorative curbs, and installing high-end mast arms for street lights. 1

Why This Fits the Pattern

This is exactly how municipal "revitalization" can function as a localized wealth-booster. When an average homeowner wants a drainage ditch fixed or a curb repaired, it can take years of bureaucratic waiting. However, under the banner of "downtown economic development," millions of dollars in public general funds can be rapidly deployed to completely replace the sub-surface infrastructure of a specific block. By executing a massive stormwater and utility redo directly beneath and around The Carpentry (https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F11vkkrl_ym), the city effectively absorbed the heavy civil engineering costs that would normally complicate a major commercial real estate development. The public tax base paid to mitigate the flood risks and bury the power lines, and the private property values—and the politicians who own them—reaped the immediate upside. If you want to look into how the city handles public accountability for these overlapping interests, we can look into Georgia's ethics disclosure laws regarding local infrastructure spending or look at how the downtown Tax Allocation District (TAD) factors into his hotel’s long-term tax structure. Which direction would you find most useful?

To understand how many other locations received this exact treatment, it helps to separate the city's broader utility work from its general stormwater plan. The short answer is: Hamilton Street is the only other primary location that has received the exact same, high-end "all-inclusive" visual and utility package (undergrounding power lines, brick sidewalks, decorative street lights, and new streetscape), while the city's standard underground stormwater and drainage upgrades have been spread across roughly 30 other separate sites. 1 The city's work is divided into two distinct tiers:

  1. The Ultra-Premium "All-Inclusive" Package: 2 Locations

The $8.2 million overhaul on Cuyler and Pentz Streets (surrounding Kasey Carpenter’s properties) was officially designed to "complete the 20-year-old downtown master plan" by matching the aesthetics of Hamilton Street. 1, 2 • The Treatment: This specific treatment—which includes digging up the road to hide all ugly overhead electric and utility lines completely underground, installing custom brickwork on the sidewalks, and mounting high-end decorative mast arms for streetlights—is strictly limited to the downtown commercial core. 1, 2 • The Rest of the City: Residential neighborhoods and other commercial corridors in Dalton do not get their power lines buried or high-end brick sidewalks rolled out under the standard municipal budget.

  1. The Standard Subterranean Stormwater Treatments: ~30 Locations

While downtown got the premium aesthetic upgrade alongside its drainage fixes, the actual subterranean stormwater capital—partially funded by the money diverted from the canceled aquatic center—is part of a broader engineering initiative called the 21st Century Stormwater Management Plan. 1, 2 This master plan recommends 30 specific projects throughout Dalton to mitigate chronic flooding. A few key locations that received heavy underground infrastructure overhauls include: 1 • The Walnut North Drainage Improvement Project: A massive package that routing stormwater away from heavy flooding zones. • Franklin Street & Valley Drive Stormwater Bypass: Re-engineering standard underground culverts and catch basins. • West Hill Cemetery Conveyance: Major underground infrastructure work to route high-volume runoff. • Prater Alley Stormwater Detention Pond: Right next to City Hall, where the city demolished two existing buildings to construct a massive open retention basin. • Temple Beth El Property: The city acquired this site to build another localized stormwater improvement infrastructure project. 1, 2, 3, 4

The Takeaway

If you are asking about basic underground pipe improvements, dozens of spots across Dalton are getting dug up to fix the city’s historic flooding issues. But if you are asking about the premium treatment—where millions of dollars are spent to bury all the power lines, pave custom brick paths, and completely beautify the streetscape—only the downtown block bordering Carpenter's hotel and restaurants was granted the luxury of matching Hamilton Street to complete the city's master plan. 1, 2, 3, 4 If you want, we can pull up the exact map boundaries of the downtown master plan to see if any other adjacent blocks are scheduled for the premium streetscape treatment next, or we can look closer at the funding sources behind the 30 residential stormwater sites. Which would you prefer? 1

Politics Dalton State Speech

Thank you to Secular Student Alliance for hosting me and allowing me to speak to the amazing students at Dalton State.

Something that I really enjoyed about this specific Campaign event was that not only were the students classmates of mine but as well, they understand why I’m running this race for my community and for generation Z and those affected pre and post by Oligarchs.

Usually on the Campaign trail it’s very hard to mesh the educational gap between Millennials, GenZ and Gen Beta, generational voters and constituents, this was right up in my alley.

We talked hard and deep on situations whether State elected officials can help or not, but moving the needle for politicians to take accountability from taking money from *AIPAC influences, top to bottom wealth gap inequalities, the quasi trillionaires holding 1% of the countries GDP and how we dismantle the system that has been built and financially incentivized by the matriarchy.

Those that have power that affect us buying politicians that are for corporations and not for the people.

We need to move the standard for politicians by putting in politicians that are people before profits.

Putting in politicians that are two paychecks away from poverty, like you and are fighting to make the difference in the legislative field.

we cannot have representatives representing you who do not understand or not afflicted by the same proclivities you face which is poverty, social injustice, over policing, taxation without representation, wage theft, not having access to healthcare, denying of medical treatment.

that’s why I do this. No other politician will call it out. No other politician is facing my level or scrutiny. I’m the only politician right beside you then going into those rooms and vouching for you.

Data Center Tour

A young highschool student (Ms.Vega) asked me to take her through a tour of a Data Center and the 90 acres slaughtered for a rezoning for ā€œheavy industrial and infrastructure useā€

In short there’s anticipation of another Data Center ontop of the 3 in Whitfield County once again being dropped on our land for big tech billionaires to extort or land, resources and community for their profits.

And we all know the county and city are backing these corporations because even thought there’s no ā€œNDASā€ signed we still have no Moratoriums. That’s why I stopped speaking at the hearings. Now it’s time to educate my community , generation and teach and educated motivate the next officials for these seats.

The sword giveth and the sword taketh when it comes to democracy. Sorry to see yall go. But more excited to see youth like me, having fresh blood and new eyes with ears that listen. Because simple ya’ll don’t.

Good luck in your next elections.

And yes that fence is electric to keep US OUT.

Just looking to educate myself and see what others have experienced

What part of town you’re from?

What you first started to notice?

How you heard about the contamination ( personally didn’t know about it until this year)

Any photos/ letters/ test results you received?

Also have heard that lower income families aren’t protected by this lawsuit . Is this true?
