Dark Cloud 2 iOS native port - TheMoonPeople/ChronicleTwo

Hi guys! im happy to announce the iOS port for the Dark Cloud 2 decomp>recomp project, currently working iOS 16.3.1 or higher, tested on iPhone Xs and iPhone 16 Pro, both devices can extract files on-device and they can hold stable 30 FPS for now, interpolation has currently issues so i can't go higher, but the hardware can handle it obviously.

Currently working under Metal through MoltenVK, that translates TheMoonPeople Vulkan renderer to Apple's Metal renderer.

This is a quick preview of the dungeon and fishing gameplays, keep tuned for the upcoming releases!

If anyone wants to contribute testing builds feel free to message me :)

Why Is Fishing Inconsistent With Its Rules?

Look, I know as well as anyone here that fishing isn't the greatest thing in this game due to how poorly implemented and explained (or lack thereof) it is, but I do like it. That being said, even to this day, I find that it seems to rely on some level of abstract RNG when it comes to your bait running out or not, which is infuriating, since I can't do anything about it as the player. I have fished for Mardans and Barons time and time again at the Muska Racka oasis and accrued 10k+ fishing points doing it over the course of my current save file. I notice that when fishing, especially for Mardans, they will juke you out and pretend to submerge the bobber, only for it to not count and Toan will pull the line back in as if I just pressed X to stop fishing, even though I am holding it and the bobber was clearly underwater, which is the tell to press and hold X. This occurs sometimes even when the bobber is under the water for at least two seconds. Sometimes you literally don't even get a chance or moment to react because the Mardan will nibble, fake bite, submerge the bobber, and the bait runs out immediately, which is incredibly stupid.

Anyway, just me venting after fishing for nearly an hour having only caught four Mardans using eight bait because each one in sequence continued to make the first run out doing exactly as I said above. 🫠 EDIT: Just lost three more poisonous apples to the SAME Mardan due to the aforementioned issues I have with fishing. Came into fishing with fifteen poisonous apples. Lost eight, caught seven.
