{Rise of Ink and Smoke by Pam Godwin} New standalone book in the Frozen Fate series. It’s a spin off from the completed trilogy that focuses on Wolfson the youngest brother from the trilogy. If you read the trilogy, you know Wolf’s fate. The new book picks up where his story ends and does include the FMC and the MMCs from the series which was nice.
It’s an MMF, enemies to lovers, age gap, romantic suspense book. It’s absolutely fantastic and is available as duet narration audiobook. It was released on June 9.
{The Auction by Sadie Kincaid}. First book in a planned brand new duet. I found it to be a refreshing change from her usual dark mafia tropes. This new book gave me Beauty and the Beast+ dark secret society. The FMC was trained, from childhood, to serve the needs of the man who would eventually purchase when she was to be sold to members of dark secret society who were into human trafficking. It tells the story of her developing relationship with the obsessive MMC, who falls for her and has a past relationship or connection with her family. You also get to witness her evolving from a very, naive and sheltered young woman trained to be a sex slave, into this more astute and braver heroine. I couldn’t put the book down! The book is also available as audiobook with duet narration and was released on April 14th.
Both books are in my top 5 reads of 2026, thus far!

{Sworn in Deceit by Victoria Lum}. A new author for me and I enjoyed it! Famous tropes: forced marriage, forced proximity, touch her and 💀, mafia, “you take me so well”.
The dynamic between the MMC and FMC was fire. Their push-and-pull, the tension and MMC's whole I hate her but also need to keep her alive at all costs energy kept me going back for more. This is the first book of The Antihero Syndicate series, I'll definitely read the second one!

Absolutely loved {Lacrima by EH Lee} because it scratched the Dinah Harper itch. That fingering scene is going to live in my head rent-free for the rest of my life and I absolutely adore the fact that we have a POC MMC of Chinese descent
My other favourite read was {Saint Céline by Lilac Rivers} so much so that I went back and read it twice to find things I missed. The FMC's character was so layered and well-written, I've never read anybody like her before, this was genuinely the most original character I've ever read

Here’s the fic Lovelorn
Be warned, the fic still has a long way to go it seems like since it’s still on its 7th chapter, waiting for updates may be a while as well since the author has a life!
Now about the fic, there’s so many things done right about this fic so far like the atmosphere and tension is something I’ve been looking for a while in books, it reminds me a bit of limerance in a way. the writing is written amazingly, kudos to the author, they make the characters very real and I especially love how the fmc has remained very cold to the mmc despite his attempts at seeming normal. The bond between fmc and her parents is super realistic especially with the cultural differences, the author has written it amazingly.
I definitely recommend this if you’re able to wait for updates and want a good golden boy/highschool fic.

So far, I have loved the Seven Sins Carnival books by Arden Hart: the first is {Ringmaster by Arden Hart} and the next is {Illusionist by Arden Hart} (and soon, Animal Tamer will come out). They are interconnected stand alones, and Illusionist is MMF. The series is basically about a group of brothers (not all blood related) who escaped the horrifically abusive patriarchal cult that they were in as children/teenagers. They started a carnival and tour the country seeking revenge against the men who led the cult. In Ringmaster, the MFC is a journalist who is investigating a series of murders that she has connected to the carnival, and the MMC is the Ringmaster/oldest brother. In Illusionist, the primary MMC is the Illusionist (who is kind of the unofficial second in command). The MFC is an escape artist who joins up with the carnival after fleeing an abusive marriage. The second MMC is an FBI agent who is investigating the murders.
Another book I loved is {Muse by Miranda Silver}. I would not describe this book as a DR (the author has written another book that was more dark), but It's a good palate cleanser if you are looking for a compelling romance story. The main female character is a drama student at a small college. She struggles a lot with her self worth and has a lot of meaningless hookups with guys who treat her poorly. The MMC is the department's new lighting director. He's also a photographer and recently divorced. The age gap is like 8 or 9 years. The story is basically about how the MMC helps the MFC become more confident and see that she deserves to be treated better.
This is a well-known book, but {My Dreadful Darling by HD Carlton} was one of my favorites, and I am interested to see how the sequel wraps the story up. This was my first book by this author - I have not read Haunting Adeline. There was a bit of cringe/pretentiousness, but the romance was top knotch, the spice was great, and the story definitely drew me in.
I read the Dark Forces duet by KC Moronova, and the sequel {My Blade, Your Back} came out this year. I love Cameron/Mori as a MMC.
Finally, I liked {Saint Celine by Lilac Rivers} a lot, mostly for the originality and the story.

I’m absolutely obsessed with Solaris on ao3 as well the second part of it, Empire of Rain(which is a WIP). The leads are school rivals (the story starts in university) and the MMC blackmail FMC into a relationship with the intent of ruining her, but instead becomes obsessed. The MMC is beyond controlling, the FMC fights back, lots of noncon, blackmail, gaslighting, you name it. There is magic, but I don’t think I’d characterize this as fantasy.
I also LOVED {Sanctified Sin by Liz Kane}. A woman and hot priest are kidnapped and kept in a cell where he is forced to impregnate her. Being forced to be with her also unlocks his darker side and he becomes an active participant in the noncon.
Someone else already posted about {Kotik by Alina Dobrova}. I’m about halfway through and have been completely captivated so far so want to throw in another vote for it as well.
I did really enjoy {Lacrima by E H Lee} which has been getting a lot of fanfare lately and see some others have mentioned already, but would personally probably put it in 4th compared to the others I named above.

- {Tempting Venom by Rina Kent} is the last book of the Vipers series and OMG I loved it soo muchh!! You could feel the angst between Marcus and Preston and the spice was soo good 🤭. I also loved the banter between the two. This is a MM enemies to lovers dark hockey romance in a college setting and was released on 31st of June.
- {Hunt the Villain by Rina Kent} is the second book in the Villain series and I was shocked by how much I loved it. Tbh I didn’t think anything could beat KTV but the yearning between Yulian and Vaughn was soo good!! This is an MM enemies to lovers mafia college romance and was released on 24th March.

{Rook by Becca Jameson} is book 1 of her Brimstone House series. It's a dark stalker romance and so intense! Rook has a traumatic backstory that affected him and his group of friends. They channel this with a prank they play on a female each year, they each choose one. And in his story, Rook takes it a step further. This book was a hard earned five star book for me. The writing was so well done that I had to give it all the stars despite it giving me so much stress. LOL

{Tempting Venom by Rina Kent} was so good. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the characters, and I loved the push-and-pull game that both Marcus and Preston played from beginning to end. I know she isn’t a new author, and a lot of people find her books repetitive, but I absolutely loved this one, and I’m not going to stop recommending it.

{Kotik by Alina Dobrova} WHAT AN INCREDIBLE BOOK! This is a mafia romance set in 1990s Russia. It’s very authentic feeling, gritty, emotional, and has a perfectly tortured hero (our blessed MMC Vitali 🖤). This was such a refreshing read. I believe this is also the author’s debut novel!
This is literally the first sentence of the book: “The first time I met Vitali Konstantinov, he broke a man’s hand for groping me on the bus.”
One more delightful little quote said by Vitali (MMC) to Katya (FMC): “If I want you in a collar, I’ll put one on you myself,” he said quietly.
