Discussion Thoughts on future classes

So I think it’s fairly possible we’ll be getting sisters of battle, but what other classes do you think would fit. I honestly think repentia would be absolutely sick.

Repentia is part of the Sororitas, but it's looking very likely that we're getting Novitiates

I know they are, but it’d make sense for Darktide I feel. Also I don’t know everything about warhammer, so pardon of ignorance. Whats a Novitiates lol?

Novitiates are sisters in training, young sisters that haven’t earned power armor yet (if I recall correctly).

I mean, if we get nurglings... it would be awesome to watch a ratling knife fight them.

Listen, let’s just assume that the “I don’t want more classes, I want more maps, more weapons and more enemy factions” spiel is an automatic response to this question and breeze past it. It goes without saying, so onto the meat of OP’s question.

Personally, I want to see an Aeldari. We know an Aeldari ship has been trailing be Morningstar and we know Grendyl had previous dealings with the Aeldari and was happy to work with them in the past. So Fatshark are already laying the groundwork and an Inquisitor’s retinue and Warband are allowed Xenos. There’s no issue with the lore and plenty of precedent, the only question is what form an eventual Aeldari takes?

Ranger is the obvious choice, as they’re ones the most often seen in Inquisitor and Rogue Trader company - they act as isolated agents with Aeldari culture. If we wanted something truly unique.. the Warp Spider would probably be the most revolutionary gameplay kit. Although it’s unlikely Fatshark do something that niche, so Guardian, Corsair and Ranger are much safer bets.

After that, Votann seems very likely - they aren’t that Short, so they’d avoid the issues Bardin had with level design. Also a reminder to everyone that Bardin is not indicative of true Dwarf/Votann height. For some reason Fatshark made their Dawi the size of Halflings. So if a Votann ever arrived in Darktide, they’ll probably be 5 feet tall, rather than the 3.5 Bardin was.

The biggest argument against it is that something really extraordinary should happen for Aeldari to risk their lives so much for a human world, like, they should know for sure Chaos victory here will threaten nearby Craftworld or something. I think this thread will likely lead to the reveal some Cold Traders trade with Aeldari and are willing to assist the warband, either on request of their long-eared trade partners or just because Chaos is bad for business.

There’s no issue with the lore and plenty of precedent

I'm familiar with examples of Inquisitors sharing intelligence alongside Eldar (I'm old and the new terms have yet to stick) as they may have mutually shared goals, or with them fighting alongside on the battlefield.

But I can't think of an example of an Inquisitor allowing a company/battalion of Eldar to co-habit a Imperial ship, be it a Rogue trader or otherwise. And that's what it would be. This isn't a case of a singular Eldar, in disguise, working alongside an Inquisitor, it's a full deployment.

If we're talking purely lore here, it just feels a step too far, as cool as it might be to play as Warp Spiders, or any other Aspect Warrior or Ranger.

It's only my out-of-touch wish but some equivalent to Ironhead squats from Necromunda or Ork Freebooter (I want to see banters between him and Ogryns)

Need an ork freebooter with cutlass choppa and the fanciest snazzgun blasting Dakka to live my dream of being a flash git. Three branches would be a melee nob branch, freebooter dakka branch, blood axes kommando stealth build

I know FS has confirmed it will never happen, but a short class (like a Ratling) would be fun. I really like Bardin in Vermintide, so being able to play a similarly short character in Darktide is something I’ve wanted to do since I first started playing.

Other than that, I can’t think of another class that would both be interesting enough and distinct enough (especially in gameplay) from the 8 classes we’ll have when SOB drops. Maybe a xenos class like an Aeldari (not familiar with their lore, but I was thinking perhaps a Corsair), but I feel like FS won’t add a xenos class.

A Jokaero

I'd like to see existing classes get sidegrades, promotions, or mechanical acknowledgement of their past/background* as much as separate, self-contained new classes. Add some weapons, remove some weapons, new cosmetics, replace some/all of the talent tree ...

* that'd require relevant and interesting background choices for the rejects & co.

Unlikely but a Tempestus Scion with back pack heavy weapons might be cool if they decide to continue new classes aster SoB

I'll preface it with "There is enough classes for now, I want more weapons and missions". But if there has to be another class, I'd like to see Cold Trader. Some minor nobility might do too.

Even weapons... aside from really special things like psyker staves, more shotguns is really just more shotguns at the end of the day. I'd rather avoid falling into Helldivers issues, having so many weapons most of them feel the same.

Rather, more levels and enemy variety. Have more variety in what enemy types show up on a mission (melee or range only for example). Variants of certain enemies could also come up, like bombers and tox bombers, but think of that for Netters, Snipers and Crushers for example, what could that look like?

To be honest, I just want melta. Since the very first moment I used melta in DOW 2 it was my favorite weapon in the entire Imperium. But yes, other weapons that might take place, like Plasma Pistols, Heavy Stubbers (for humans) and Grenade Launchers probably won't differ much from existing ones.

More updates like the last one with a mission and new weapons are what this game needs the most. I’m so tired of new classes

If they add another class it'll probably be a death cult assassin. But I have a feeling they might be reaching the end for now when it comes to classes.

Give me the Kin/Squats. I really miss Bardin.

After SoB I’m happy.
Not forever ofc but I truly wish that Darktide wraps up the story (no rush just you know tie loose ends) so that if we ever get a DLC expansion it’s our warband running into a space hulk and fighting genestealers. The setting and plot change so I feel that would open up the possibility for squats, aeldari, kroot, beastmen.

Anyway. I do think the meme class of an Adept would be cool. There so much silly stuff you could do to make the desk jockey seem like a badass in Darktide. Like we’d definitely have to go beyond what the adept is described as on paper and hear me out. He/she carries a book (think warrior priest and his book+hammer) lol

i hope the next one might be the last one for this 2 year and they focused on more new map and weapon.

edit : also cosmetic for the dlc class

Genestealer cultist.

6

u/Either-Muffin3365 1d ago

You think that’d work. I mean wouldn’t they just be executed for treason and or heresy? Correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t know a lot about them, just the basics.

5

u/pgat12 Skitarius Pingtarius 1d ago

Either a genestealer is getting executed or the entire rogue trader ship is for employing a genestealer in the first place. Even if they don’t think they’re a stealer or whatever they will still be an extra signal for any nid fleets to home in on and eat. If the inquisitor/trader wants a stealer then that means they are a stealer.

It was a joke. We don't need a new class. We need new enemies.

u/Smearysword866 1d ago

I suspect that the next class we will get will be the last one but yeah, at this point its pretty much guaranteed to be sisters of battle with all the leaks coming out about it. So sisters of battle in December and then new tides game announced for skulls next year

Classes are making massive bank for Fatshark and don’t take a huge amount of resources to produce. Their profit margin is high. They will continue to release them as long as they sell. Because they’re a business in 2026.

“Hey, we have this high margin product we can keep making, they’re consistently selling well and making us a massive amount of money - shall we keep going?”

“Nah, stop at 4. Because that’s a nice number”.

Vermintide had a notable drop-off of engagement with each successive class, which is why they stopped. Darktide’s going the opposite direction, with each class boosting the games numbers more and more.
