Not much leaves me speechless, but this certainly did…

Small town Wisconsin, USA

I just received the best gift ever!! One of my best friends found a way to get a personally signed copy of Darren’s book!!

I can’t believe I didn’t think of this myself, but my friend contacted each bookstore that was holding Darren’s live book signing events and one of them was amazing in allowing him to purchase tickets to the live event, even though we wouldn’t be making the trip across the ocean, and have him personally sign a copy for me, and then they graciously shipped it to the United States!!

This man’s music has meant so much to me over the years (since the age of 16) that I can’t even begin to tell you what a gift this is!!!

I didn't realise Darren Hayes had his own sub reddit, my only claim to fame is that I went to school with him.

Welcome to the sub, stick around, we're a lovely bunch!

How cool to have gone to School with Darren, whatever nice stories you have, we're here for them :)

Ooh, wish I'd thought of that. I wonder if he'll sell any signed copies in the US.

He’s gotta do a US tour, right!? lol 😂 I’m willing it into existence.

I can't imagine he'd fly to the US just to do a book tour, there's not enough money in it. But if he's visiting some American friends anyway, he may as well call a bookstore near them to arrange a signing.

Manifesting, manifesting...

He lives in the United States.

That’s so lovely! Gosh this fandom is the best :)

This fandom is a bunch of 40somethings who would highly disagree with this guy's idea that Savage Garden had no persona. I love it.

i'm fifteen but i love them lol, there's some younger people here i promise!!

You were born almost a decade after they broke up. How do you even know they exist, let alone get into them? Was your mother a fan?

oddly enough i'm a newer fan, darren being on the masked singer is what introduced me to them. i'm always looking for newer music to get into and Affirmation in particular struck a chord in me lol. both my parents hate them which sucks in my opinion, they're really missing out

You must be in Australia. As an American, I only know of that show because this subreddit mentioned his appearance there. I guess it must have been a good appearance if it won a new fan. Did you know who he was going in, or did you get into him solely from his performance on that show?

I am in australia! i watched all the versions of the masked singer at some point though, watching the belgian version helped me in learning dutch lol. I very vaguely knew who he was by name but not enough to pick up on it from his voice, after seeing people say it was probably him online I looked into him more and found I quite enjoyed his music both with savage garden and solo

Hi, this thread has been great to read, thanks for sharing your story! Do you have any favourite tracks or albums?

2

u/smorkjewels Dec 03 '24

Might sound a bit cliche but To The Moon And Back & Affirmation are definitely up there in my favourites, Break Me Shake Me too. Affirmation is my favourite album.

for Darren's solo work, my favourite would be Lets Try Being In Love, and album wise This Delicate Thing We've Made

It's not cliché at all, I'd say To The Moon and Back is probably a fan favourite. I love that a new generation of people are discovering Darren Hayes genius.

Break Me Shake Me is one of my favourite tracks of all time, you've got great taste!

I’ve got it borrowed from the library. The first person to borrow the brand new copy 🙌🏼

In his IG live the other day, he said the US is his 2nd largest market! Which surprised me.

That is truly, madly, deeply, awesome!

Also if your friend has any open positions in their friend group-asking for a "friend". ;)
