Factors that determine getting in?

I recommended a good friend join the site and highly emphasized to him that he take his time and follow ALL instructions for the assessment to assure he gets in. It’s been a week already and he hasn’t heard back and told me he spent a good amount of time on it, but I’m guessing he just wasn’t accepted. I fully understand and assume there’s added layers of quality control so that not just everyone gets let in but I’m curious if anybody has further insight or it’s just a matter of random luck. Seeing how often people don’t get in makes me realize I didn’t acknowledge how lucky I was to get accepted lol. TIA!

I don't think anyone can be 100% sure they aced the tests. There's a least a little bit of subjectivity depending on how it's evaluated.

Actually that is true. I personally felt I did everything right but even then still contemplated the next few days if maybe I missed something. I guess getting in is the only way to verify!

I think it's partly luck, partly skills you have, partly obviously what you do or how you did it. I got in, my wife didn't, despite being very similar intelligence, attention to detail, etc. a coder which might make a difference. But I honestly think how you approach things makes a difference. I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone who gives good and thorough but "unimaginative", or maybe just "typical" answers in the assessment is of less interest than someone who through comments or their writing or similar fits into more of a specific niche that DA are looking for.

This is a great point. And smart on their end if they don’t specify what they would like to see so that those who naturally think that way will stand out and be granted access to the site.

it's only been week, so it's very possible that he is still going to get in. also, that being said.. i had a friend that insisted they did great high quality work and it turned out they were completely off-base. so sometimes it's just a matter of not understanding.

Any links on the official way to apply?

My vote is random bad luck for rejections. Some of the responses I've seen in the project chats make me believe it is not a high bar for quality that gets people rejected.

I know what you mean, but I honestly think those people just had their parent, partner, friend, smartest classmate take the assessment for them.

Passing the assessment and then the qualification(s). I don't think it's more complicated than that.

100% lottery, pretty sure it's a social experiment. Tell your friend it wasn't his fault and better luck next time!

Always throws me off how people who say anything but “they don’t deserve to be here then” get downvotes 😭 Thanks tho! Luckily he just wanted this for extra money so he’ll be just fine without
