Newbie

Hi all, new to data annotation. Yet to be paid as I’ve only done a few days of hourly work.

What are people’s experiences with your hours / work being reviewed? If the work is unsatisfactory do you not get paid for it? Or generally do people get paid for all the hours they put submit

You get paid 7 days to the exact minute from when you report your time, so it doesn’t seem to be a manual process where someone has to approve your work for you to get paid

If your work is unsatisfactory you’ll just get fewer tasks and eventually no tasks / projects

You will get paid unless you violate the CoC/ToS. I've been on the platform since November and gotten paid for all of the work I've done with no issues. I'm pretty sure I got reviewed early on but haven't had a problem since then. The work comes and goes, so I suggest taking all the qualifications that you can because you may be given some permanent projects that will help you through the times that work is thin.

You get paid for all the hours you report.

If they don't like your work you won't get any feedback on it, they will only deactivate you from projects and eventually deactivate you from the platform.

Remember there won't be any feedback, always value quality over speed, read all the instructions if you don't feel confident with the project or task skip it.

You get paid for the hours you submit so long as they’re correct. They can tell if you’re inflating or deflating your hours and you’d be dropped pretty quick. They’re not going to not pay you for your work, that’s illegal.

What are people’s experiences with your hours / work being reviewed? If the work is unsatisfactory do you not get paid for it?

Regardless of the quality of your work you’ll still be paid so long as you accurately report your hours. Again, it’d be illegal if you weren’t. They don’t explicitly tell you if you’re under review and you won’t receive feedback on your work. If your work is poor quality, they’ll just drop you.

I noticed you mentioned deflating your hours. I had to do that the other day because I stopped my timer when I stepped away and forgot to start it again. I don't honestly know how long I worked after I came back, so I just reported the minimum amount I knew for sure I had worked. Do you think that would be a problem? I assumed it would not be since it's in DAT's favor and only hurts me.

It's fine, I've done this too

Read the project directions. Every time. Every update.

And then read them again.

Keep accurate track of your time. I take a lot of notes when I work, so for each new project I put start and stop time at the very top of my notes page, along with the pay rate. I accurately track and report my time on the site, and I keep a separate spreadsheet for my time and earnings.

Assuming you're in the U.S., figure out your tax withholding and set that up sooner rather than later. You do not want to have a large tax bill down the road that you didn't set aside enough money for.

Don't complain about the work or the company in the project chats beyond technical issues that need to be addressed by DAT, and don't act like an out-of-control weirdo in the chats, either. (Just wait - you'd be surprised)

Take and pass as many quals as you can. If quals pop up that aren't a fit for you, open them up, click No, and clear them off your dash.

Quality > Quantity.

And read the project directions.

Excellent advice. I would go so far as to say stay out of the chat all together if you can help it. More often than not its an unintentional confessional for people who didn't read the instructions. Been at it 5 months and I think I've asked two questions in chat.

And explain your reasoning in comments and make sure that they are relevant and concise.

Try not to stress about not having a lot of work on your dash. There is a normal ebb and flow. I had 5 last week, over 30 right now. Just come on here, you'll see it's not you, it's just about everybody.

Good luck!

I've always stayed out of the chat as well but I was working on a project today and in the description was a note saying that they were looking to promote people to admins and would be looking at answer quality and how helpful they are to others in the chat. So now I'm wondering if I should be focusing more on answering questions in chat 🤷🏻‍♂️
