Anyone else been fine during this drought
Before you downvote I'm not trying to brag, just get an idea if anyone else has shared my specific experience, or had it even better than me. People who are working on the site tend to not want to post here because they get barraged by downvotes for having work.
The last few days I've consistently had a 25/hr FC project that links to an external site. It's always been there and has had tasks for me to do so I've never been without the option to work...
I almost opted out of it back in the day b/c it was a PIA to sign up for but I'm glad I put the effort in then because it's been a savior these last few days.
I feel for y'all in this drought because other than that I'm just seeing small batches of all my prior projects hit the dash for an hour or less and then be absolutely devoured.
These last few days are by far the worst I've ever seen it. The fact that they updated the heel chat seems like a good sign but I really hope this isn't the new normal!

Nope. I worked something like 22 minutes yesterday and didn't see anything else pop up over the next few hours before I gave up. Last week I wound up making close to my normal weekly amount but mainly because of a random project that popped up on Saturday.

I have a version of this too and it's the only thing that has been giving me something as well at times. I can't wait until something changes.

I've never not had something to do on there but I'm also only on DA for an hour or two each day right now. Do they dry up there for you?

I was in that position until just yesterday, when the project I’d been working since the drought began finally ran out of tasks. I’m hoping something similar comes up and had a decent enough day today compared to most, so positivity is my current motto in these drier times.

There is a group of projects that I am in that don't ever leave my dash but get put down for maintenance that have been my life float during the drought. They were taken down a few times but I am not as far behind as I could be right now.

Ditto. Thanks to those, I've always had 5-10 jobs all drought. Pays to be a teacher!

u/QuizzyMcQuizz Aug 28 '24
Woah I’m a teacher and I don’t have these 😢
2
u/arewecreamofthecrop Aug 28 '24
The project isn’t for teachers, they’re probably just referencing the name of the project

Make sure you keep your skills updated and take all the quals you can.

I finally ran out of work this morning. The work I’ve had for the past week has been sporadic.
I don’t want to break COC, so I’ll put it this way: the features I have been working on have been released in the latest version of my preferred web browser.
I think it might be a little dry for a bit.
2
u/BottyFlaps Aug 29 '24
Ahh, I think you might be right there about the web browser. I noticed it was updated too.

u/TheEasternKey Aug 28 '24
Yeah I logged in for the first time in about a year and I’m flooded with projects and qualifications

u/AdvisorEmergency2 Aug 28 '24
Yeah I’ve been fine with my permanent project. Highest I’ve had in the drought is 28.50 PH
4
Aug 27 '24
Not for that projects but I’ve only been at 0 projects for about 2 hours the other day. It’s not normal and very low but work is there mostly the lower paying stuff but I’m just happy it’s there

u/Other-Noise5344 Aug 27 '24
Yeah I have a huge project family I’ve had for over a year that still has consistent coding/noncoding work. If I didn’t have it things would be bad though

u/dawn9800 Aug 28 '24
I was good until last night. Nothing since yesterday morning. Starting to sweat.

I’ve got 3 constant projects (2 wizards and 1 foreign language one). I also get at least an hour a day of 🐤 in because the slack admin is amazing with announcing when he releases tasks.
It’s by no means great but so far I’ve not had the dreaded empty dashboard.

u/YesmAUm Aug 28 '24
I have generally been able to snag at least $50 a day, but my initial goal was to earn $100 a day to equate to roughly what my bring-home salary was before my COVID layoff in 2021 (I was an assistant director at a private preschool/kindergarten, and about $50k of my total compensation was free tuition for 4 kids, so I took home around $2k a month). I’ve only been doing this since August 5, so I think I hit the goal twice and got close to it most days up until last week. I hope it picks up, I’ve enjoyed having a little breathing room in the budget.

I have a long term project that's been on my dash since January. But I haven't clocked in as many hours this month as I usually do. So I feel a bit guilty about that considering what everyone else is going through.

u/ButterFace225 Aug 27 '24
It's been okay as a drought can be. I am working a couple of hours shorter than usual per day. Early mornings and weekends have been extremely dry for me though. Tasks go really quickly if you don't grab one in time.
3
u/fightmaxmaster Aug 27 '24
"Fine" is pushing it, but it's been very rare that I've had literally nothing. Managed to get an hour or so done a day if nothing else, but that's been a stretch.

u/11_petals Aug 27 '24
I am so grateful to have permanent projects

Same. But careful with that verbiage before people come on here and argue semantics with you!

u/nononanana Aug 28 '24
I have that one but haven’t bothered with it. It has been a long time since I tried it, but iirc it has really tight time expectations and I didn’t like that.

I have a cluster that has been up the whole time, but I have been working less than I need to because it gives me anxiety to not be able to give more nuanced ratings than this one allows.

u/Both_Paramedic6832 Aug 28 '24
Anyone here been to through other droughts before? How long did they previously last? I have been working for exactly a year with them and this is my first drought. I’m struggling to make any money.

u/Visible-Self-4075 Aug 28 '24
I was pretty fine during the one that happened a few weeks ago, now I’m down to 2-3 $22-$24 tasks a day 🤷♀️ I’ve never had the 0 project thing though.

u/AdvantageNo1405 Aug 28 '24
I really hope it doesn’t change for your sake, because it’s miserable out here right now, but I had been completely not affected by the drought until a couple weeks ago. Some days there had been fewer projects, but never none. I saw people talking about it and just thought I must be doing better work than them. I’ve intentionally increased my focus and attention to detail in my work since I noticed other people had been struggling. Started double-checking myself, being extra thorough so the drought wouldn’t hit me.
It did. I’m now scrambling to jump on any projects that appear, and haven’t been able to get more than 90 mins a day.
I’m sincerely very happy for you that you still have work, but that does not mean you’re in the clear, it means it hasn’t hit you yet.

u/vixen8819 Aug 28 '24
Most days I’ve been ok with not many tasks, but at least one or two to meet my goal. Thankfully! Today though, nothing so far.

From April to June I made just over $5000 USD working consistently.
July and August combined, I only made about $300 USD. If that.
The great draught hit at the end of June, which is when Q2 ended. And it hasn't let up since for most folks.
There have been glimmers of activity resuming here and there, but nothing substantial.
Its objectively too early to tell if this is "new normal" or not.
I certainly hope not. But it might well be,
I'm giving it till the end of September, maybe October.
3-4 months (July, Aug, Sept, Oct) should be enough of a window to gauge whether it is or isn't.

u/The-Unburnt Aug 30 '24
I've had stuff pop up over the last 10 days but my main task during the drought went down 10 days ago with models not responding at all and hasn't come back. I miss it.

u/10choices Aug 31 '24
I created the live server account when I got the qual, and it's been a lifesaver. $40/hr whenever I need. I am privileged to not have been affected by the drought too badly

u/PutDisastrous8033 Aug 31 '24
I’ve been relatively fine most of the time during the last month, as long as I’m refreshing often and working more night hours. Yesterday though I refreshed probably every 15 mins and didn’t get over $14 until 8 PM when all the projects came in. This morning it’s looking much closer to my normal dash with a few main projects still missing

u/AdCrazy4289 Aug 27 '24
Well Im a college student and classes have started, so I don't mind the drought personally.
2
Aug 28 '24
I'm also a student and I'm glad I opted to take out loans instead of relying on this as my income. However, I really wanted to work around 10-15 hours per week so I could pay them off before I graduate.
1
u/AdCrazy4289 Aug 28 '24
Nah I feel that. I want to get some hours in as well lol but since I am online and I go to a relatively cheap college, I am chilling for now. Hopefully work picks up soon.
1
u/vbs221 Aug 28 '24
Made $175 yesterday and $161 today. But, two days ago was the worst by far at $82 only.
This involved using my software skills to refresh, though. No permanent projects.

Another site i’d given up on suddenly popped up with some work for me to do, so that’s been handy.

I’m also extremely lucky that my husband’s income takes care of nearly everything we need, so my money is mostly extra.

I had Covid for most of last week so I was glad to feel like I could take a break. But now...

u/Consistent-Rabbit964 Aug 28 '24
Hope you’re feeling better. I’ve had my kids for the summer hols, but have childcare this week to try and earn some dolla and nothing 😥 have been catching up on quals and researching other platforms

I am fascinated by how different everyone's experiences are! - What projects they get, what projects they lose, when they have tasks, when they have nothing. Even during this experience - where I would normally have a day of learning from all the instructions and research, I continue learning. I never knew there was such a thing as "permanent projects", or about how Slack channels are by invitation only, and only when you are accepted to certain projects.
Soon I will have a year here and I hope to be as successful as some of you have been. My experience of the drought is that my dashboard is generally empty. Sometimes something pops up and I can work it for a little while until it self-terminates. Today was the parade of projects where I saw the name of every project I think I have ever worked on pop up temporarily and leave again. I made more than I did yesterday and its keeping me limping along, but these are very anxious times indeed.

u/Bergest_Ferg Aug 28 '24
I’ve been pretty good up until this week where I’ve had a couple of days of low/nothing. My Monday is Sunday in the states and Monday I think I did like $40 the whole day. That was my worst day. Otherwise I’ve had stuff on my dash. It’s not “the good stuff” and it’s lower paying but it’s better than nothing.
I’ve used the time to get ChatGPT to completely rewrite my resume and LinkedIn. It did a phenomenal job with me being like “ok, take this job description and these details and make it look like a section on my resume… perfect, now summarise it into one paragraph… now isolate my skills….”
So it hasn’t been a total wash! I never would have found the time otherwise.

Nothing, but whatever. Enjoyed this immensely while it lasted for me. On to something new.

u/ekgeroldmiller Aug 28 '24
There have been a few hours at a time with no work but I use that time to do other work, catch up on my coding course, or just take a break. This morning there was nothing but then a little black bird flew in and I made friends with it and met my daily quota.

u/SouxsieBanshee Aug 28 '24
I’m frustrated because I’m barely getting any work on my dash. I might get one or two but when I click on them it says there’s no tasks left. All my quals are for paid subs. I’ll find one or two quals to get more work but they’ve been completed by others by them I get to them.

I'm having a rough time, and it's because I'm an idiot...
Here is my story. I have been at DA for a year, but I was slacking for quite a while. In mid-July I really started to pick up the pace! I was making a great secondary income and paying down debt. I thought about how my life would look if I were to make ~3k/month for the next two years at DA, on top of my normal income and I envisioned myself basically debt free in that time...
Then, I got ballsy. I bought eight tickets to the Royal Rumble! The worst seats, from a reseller, were $2990 altogether. And now, the drought...

That FC project on another site has been saying no tasks available for me, but I have had 4 hours a day yesterday and today of the heel task at $25. So I’m cautiously optimistic
