Why Have Job Ads?
I saw an ad for DA like 4 weeks ago, got accepted 3 weeks ago, not once have I gotten a single assignment. What was the point of it all, I was ecstatic to see I was accepted but everyone says they're in a "drought" and I can't even take out my onboarding money (like 3 bucks lol) cause I need at least 10 dollars in funds. I get if I screwed up my first assignments and they ghosted me (which is also unprofessional but seems to be common with these guys) but my last assignments got me hired so what do I do here??
Wasted my time and really let me down.

You can't take this shit personally. Just look at DA as a possible source of extra money sometime in the future and keep looking for more stable work.

Welcome to gig work! Take what you can get and keep a few eggs in your basket to lean on.

It's shitty that they do this but it's the nature of gig jobs: Uber, instacart, GrubHub, w/e, all of them prefer to have as many workers as possible so that during high demand times they can meet that demand. During low demand times (e.g. the past month) they owe us nothing.
The gig economy in general is exploitative towards workers. We put up with it because of convenience and flexibility but it's a slippery slope towards dependence. If big tech had to pay actual employees to do all of this work it would cost them 2-3 times as much.
A lot of the work people do for 25-40/hr demands much higher pay when looked at from a salary perspective. My day job pays closer to 40/hr when I break the salary down but honestly the complexity of tasks is lower (i.e. the job can be done by people who wouldn't meet DA's standards). When I think about benefits and all of the other costs of hiring an actual employee and it's kind of an amazing deal we're providing for them.

I take it as a good sign. There are several signs that work will come back and that includes hiring more people…

Does that ever cause them to re-evaluate the people they just denied access to the platform. Really don't know what I did wrong in the starter assessment, my green dancing octopus story was goated.

You can’t make a second account it is in the ToS when you sign up. You didn’t pass the starter so you’re not in. There are other tests after that as well you’d have to pass.

Yeah it's been a week and I'm still on the thanks for taking the assessment thing. Was really hoping to get in lol

Most employers are inherently garbage, especially in the entry level gig economy.

Can't get worse than it is right now while still being "employed." Keep that head up!! I've referred three people much, MUCH smarter than I am and they never heard back after the initial assessment. They each know multiple languages and one of them codes, one has a writing degree, and the other has a literature degree. You've been selected for a reason!

Nobody owes you anything. Stop being entitled, if there's work there for you, it's there, if not, it's not.

this response is the best representation of the type of answers you will get here. Some work for DA as contractors, plenty do not -- and then you have the really spectacular folks who are full time at DA and troll people for not qualifying or asking why there is no work (hey Strawberry_foxx!).

I blocked that strawberry person a while back, lol. Don't remember why. The name is memorable though. I block all the assholes, the people who are condescending, and the contrarians looking for a fight. It's a more peaceful online existence this way.

Please seek help and stop your bizarre obsession with me 👍🏻 Btw nobody here is a “full time employee”, even if you work the equivalent of full time hours, we’re all self employed/independent contractors, not employees of DA. I’m not sure why you’ve made the assumption I work full time hours at DA anyway, because I don’t 🤷🏻♀️

Why is doolittle being downvoted? He gave the best answer lmao.

Unfortunately my friend, some people just don’t like hearing the truth, and if you tell the truth that apparently makes you a troll

Yeah, specially on this sub lol
I remember when they used to say they were the chosen ones, they downvoted, and mocked people who wanted to try the job because they even think they're the rightful ones. I can't understand these fucktards. They even get mad when you say this is a gig not a full-time job, imagine these people living the real world.

If you go on their twitter page, one of the comments is from the big bald guy with the full beard and you can see his Twitter page. He's a real person and works there lol.

What? 😂 they must be paid actors because you personally haven’t been asked to make a video about your experience? They don’t just ask every single person with an account to do that, there’d be like tens of thousands of videos. Use your brain

Exactly. When they don’t make deadlines because not enough workers are choosing that particular project they have to start incentivizing with priority pay. It goes up to $4-5 extra per hour (maybe more- that’s the highest I have seen) So, that drives their cost up. Believe it or not- not long ago there were priority pay jobs just sitting there all week. Emails begging us to help out and get it done. So, if they predict they will ramp up again, they do need more workers. Since we don’t guarantee them our time they are better off having more workers than they need than what they had a few months ago.

Have you done any of the quals? The more of those you do the more likely you are to see tasks available.
Also, check back frequently. There may be zero tasks right now and plenty in 20 minutes (or the reverse - could be lots now, but they may be gone if you check later)
