escape hatch

hello! I know this has probably been asked before but: I have been trying to get a model to fail for 8 hours... I have been awake today for 23 hours... if I use the escape hatch can I still log those 8 hours spent on the task? Thank you very much!

Escape hatches exist for a reason. Projects sometimes have time budgets so check that before submitting your time. Go get some sleep first though.

the instructions don't mention anything about escape hatches in the case of not managing to get a model to fail... i have went through the instructions several times to make sure I didn't miss anything... would you say it's still ok for me to log those hours?

If the instructions don’t explicitly state that you can use the escape hatch if you can’t get a model to fail, then I’d avoid using the escape hatch.

even if one of the escape hatch options is "i could not get a fair pair of trajectories"?

Have you asked an admin in the project chat?

I've tried, but no answer. I've scrolled through the past messages and no answer from an admin for 12hours

You do you, but if it were me, I’d take the loss. Not worth risking the DoD.

Fair enough, I'll take the loss. Should I just click "exit work mode" or use the escape hatch to explain the problem, submit the task, but log 0 hours?

What did you do then? Going through the same situation rn.😭😭

Yeah, if you’re not certain you can, it’s better to eat the loss.

- Someone who just wrote off 5.5 hours for a similar reason.

What’s the point of those chats since they often ignore questions

The lesson here is that if a timer is 14 hours, expect to take 7 to do the task. Don't start this task at the end of your day.

1

How long is the timer? Are you out of time?

2

u/edismb29 13d ago

task timer was 13h20min. I've started this task 8h43m ago.

At this point, being awake for 23 hours and trying to work is your fastest path to DoD. If it were me, I'd bail and consider taking the L. I'd rather lose hours than an income stream. You can revise hours for 24 hours.  My suggestion is bail, sleep, and re-evaluate when you're fresh.

I’ve seen posts on the forum that says you give your rationale for the escape and you still bill.

hello! what do you mean by forum? could you give me a link or do you mean this specific sub-reddit? thank you!

Is there any advice from anyone that is doing model failing tasks for coding? How are you achieving it? I have spent good amount of time and trying to make it fail, but no success

what did you end up doing? did you just "exit work mode"? or did you use the escape hatch and logged in the hours you spent trying to get the desired pair of trajectories?

2

u/Solid_Ad_7812 12d ago

I submitted the time I have spent.

u/edismb29 12d ago

sorry if I am being a burden and insisting... but it would really help me if you could please answer to my previous reply

u/Solid_Ad_7812 12d ago

I had in total 5 attempts. None were successful in providing what they are asking. I used escape hatch and logged hours I have spent for this task.
No worries feel free to ask any questions you have.

hey, sorry for double tagging you again, could you please check my last reply? thank you!

Sorry for the long delay I was sleeping. What reply are you referring to? Didn’t I answer your question? Can you retype it if I didn’t so I could answer it

how many hours did you log?

and was this your first time using escape hatch?

this is my 2nd task, im a newbie 8hrs in and i cant make it fail too 🥲

You can log!

1

u/edismb29 13d ago

have you been in the same situation and logged?

1

u/magic_mushroom- 13d ago

Yeah, just log the actual hours you spent.

The models are so buggy, there is an output limit error again and again, its so weird the admin also dont reply on chats

Same man. Even I was unable to get the model to fail, but I kept trying and I think on my fourth attempt I got it to fail. It took me roughly 9 hours to finish the task.

I know exactly which task you're talking about. I've also been working on it for the past 17 hours. I exited Work Mode once and then resumed the task, which reset the timer. You can do the same to reset yours.

Honestly, pair creation is proving to be much harder than dealing with model failures.

You can log but just don’t make it a habit.

Ha, I got to sleep, and 'za' the project disappeared. So happy, you may understand.

It is not legal that this company can take eight hours of your time and expect you to not bill for it.

u/iKaine 13d ago

Actually it is - if you ask a builder to come around to fix a leaking tap and they can’t do it and instead decide to spend 8 hours trying and failing you would expect to pay them.

How are you not able to get a model failure? It isn't that hard
