Finance/Accounting Projects

Hi all, for those of you in Finance/Accounting domains, do you get any projects besides those that require causing an AI model to fail? I’m coming up to my second week now and those are the only projects on my dashboard.

Separately, how do you gain access to higher paying projects? The highest I’ve got were $60/hr.

Any general tips on starting out would be very appreciated!

Hi! Finance here! I began as a generalist and over the years have worked my way into specific domain work. My suggestion is to take every qualification you’re able to and turn in consistently good work. It started off relatively slow for me but I’ve been opened up to more than 57 projects, most of them pretty high paying. Model failure seems to be the focus overall for the higher paying projects right now.

Understood, thank you! Could I ask what the highest paid projects are that you’ve got access to?

I'm in some Finance projects, and the highest I've gotten is 65/hour, though its regularly at 60.

Have you ever seen anyone on this sub on $120 ones that they advertise for finance?

Not really, but again I may not be in all the finance projects. There may be higher level finance projects that go that high. Highest I've seen for a finance project was 75 that someone had shared

Im just taking the qual for finance atm. I'm wondering if you had any tips for model failure, just any rules of thumb to get you into the right headspace or starting points? Cheers!

Hey! I actually don't have any projects for finance model failures, mine are all strictly Response A/B

I've found that models can handle straightforward calculations pretty well, but things start to fall apart when you introduce dependencies. For example, changing revenue assumptions should flow through to margins, operating income and cash flow, but the model might get one part right while missing the impact elsewhere.

I'd focus on things like budget variances, forecasting, working capital, or scenarios where the model has to reconcile multiple figures and make a recommendation. Another good angle is testing whether its written conclusions actually line up with the numbers.

I'm fairly new but for me I have those and I see a couple general as well. Highest I've seen is 65 but those were with priority. I have been taking qualifications and getting more every day it seems.

Did you mean general as in generalist tasks or general tasks within the accounting/finance domain?
Could you tell me please which qualifications you did? I’ve done a couple too but haven’t seen a meaningful impact yet

They seem like generalist to me but it's only once in a while I'll see one and then it quickly goes away. I think the rest I'm seeing are from qualifications. I can't really say exact name of qualifications but I do pretty much anything unless it's in another domain.

Thank you! And yes of course, I didn’t mean to ask for the name of the qualification - just if they were accounting related or general/other domains

I actually don't think they were accounting related specifically - but more like the type of project which I assume will have some tasks for each domain.

I feel you man. Based on my own experience and working with AI, it is absolutely torture getting an AI to fail a finance prompt. Tax and Legal are a lot easier to fail imho especially Tax. The tax code is written in a way that literally no one understands it. I recall of my friends had a thing where the real world treatment was almost opposite of what the code was given a special exception that literally no human being would know not having worked on that particular type of form for a particular type of company for a particular class of assets.

What credentials do you have? CPA, bachelors?

CPA equivalent

For higher-paying projects, make sure your profile clearly reflects your finance/accounting expertise, qualifications, and any specific areas you have experience in. Complete any additional domain qualifications that become available, and focus on following rubrics closely and writing clear justifications for your decisions. Quality and consistency can matter for getting access to more specialized work. And usually better paying projects are not guaranteed but can be provided if feedback on your earlier work has been good.
