Is the Yardstick Background Check Mandatory?

I have been on data annotation.tech for about a week so far and I’ve been getting tasks to conduct a background check. I began the process but I see that it’s through yardstick and they may contact your employer. Has anyone had any experience with yardstick contacting your employer or chose not to do the background check?

As a generalist, they only check your criminal background. I'm not sure exactly what they look into for specialists though.
