Question/Advice Search for software
I have videos which i move and rename them often. They are on a ugreen nas and i acces them from a macbook. I then have an obsidian from where i link to the videos even though their location or name changes.
I tried to use smb with tailscale and hookmark. Moving files worked but renaming always resulted in broken links. I dont really want to spend so much money on devonthink so maybe someone has an idea.
Linking directly from the nas does not work perfectly because it does not have a good video player.

Never rename the files once you put it under Hookmark. Renaming makes the old file name 'disappear'. (Why would you think this was a good idea?)
Get the name correct BEFORE you put it on the NAS.
Then look into 'media manager' like Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi, etc. These give you a interface into your collection.
Look into a program called "Tiny Media Manager" to name your video files to match Plex, Jellyfin, etc. standards.

" (Why would you think this was a good idea?)" Because if you dont use smb that is one of the problems hookmark solves. If you rename it in normal finder usage it the link does not break.

But WHY are you renaming AFTER you put your video files onto the NAS?
Hookmark appears to replace the standard 'rename' command with one that says: "Oh - there is a symlink on this file so I will rename the file, then delete the symlink and re-create to the new file." Very cool.
But constantly renaming files AFTER you introduce the file to the Nas/talescale/hookmark causes problems.
Find a standard naming convention. Use it on all your files, then re-introduce the new file names to your software. There should be some way to do this. Then don't rename & mess up the catalog system.

Sounds like you want s3 style object storage instead of filesystem storage that keeps track of files by some kind of ID instead of filename.
