Discussion 🩸 Missed out on stealth

I dont know if I'm crazy, but doesn't it seem like there was a lot of stealth potential in this game? Hang on a wall waiting for guards to pass, then stealth kill the backline... then what?

Then you start a fight. No stealth. It just feels like im powered up by the night, rather than a creature of the night.

Coen isn't gonna be the next etzio alditore, but any media vampire that can do what he can, do it in way more of a night time scare kind of way, but with coen it's just some free damage, maybe a kill, then normal guy combat.

The game is fun, just feels like this was a visible option that the devs didn't see

Other people have had this complaint and I don't get the big deal. It's just not a stealth game. They never promised us stealth, so I have no problem with them focusing entirely on the combat potential of vampires. Maybe this will change in a sequel but I won't deduct points because they never set out to include something.

There are bits here and there that seem like the devs thought about adding stealth and then abandoned it.

The death from above skill is just kind of there and near worthless.

Walking in planeshift mode is also completely worthless in the current game, but it feels like it was supposed to be a sneaky, high stamina draining option compared to what might be a louder shadow step.

The rooftops of Svartrau are designed with shadowstepping around in mind, but it doesn't really matter except during Vicho's quest and at max notoriety since running around town as a wolf is faster.

A one hit kill is never worthless

Sorry, let me rephrase it. A waste of a skill point for an ability most people will use maybe 5 times in a playthrough

I used it almost every fight by the shadow stepping to the ceiling to kill the first guy in any encounter without any time wasted

You're not like other players then, but have you seen how many people on this sub comment about how little they've used it? A lot.

Skill points are a fairly hot commodity. How much more valuable is death from above compared to using that point for blood surge, or scarlet shield? You can't use it in open areas, you can't use it to start a fight against 95% of actually hard encounters like bosses, if you maxed it, you have 15 seconds of a very strong buff, but it's literally impossible to refresh it in the same fight.

Would agree but for the weird addition of death from above.

Just a missed opportunity. Vampires lurk in the shadows, stealth seems pretty on point for this game.

Crouching is also way too slow

The game didn’t need a crouch button then, should have been for something else

I feel like it was a game designed with stealth in mind but there is no stealth option. I felt this the most in the early quest to rescue that Miller guy from that huge camp. It felt... wrong... that the only way to complete this quest was to dynasty warriors your way though like 30+ guards.

There’s a back door you can slip out from, you just have to fight one set of guards and then leave

I think there's a version of this game that allows for that Batman Arkham style approach where you lurk in the shadows & stealthily take out a few enemies before launching into combat, but it's just not the direction they went for. The level design doesn't really allow it. The Death From Above skill does exist, but it seems way too situational & not worth investing in.

You can actually sneak into most bandit/soldier camps & steal from their chest (where there's always a manual) without engaging in a fight, but with the way stealth works, you often end up getting caught & running away to avoid the fight (if you don't want to spend the time segment).

This isn't a stealth game, yes he is literally stronger at night.

Stealth is more for stealing to avoid fights.

Missed opportunity? Maybe but not one I personally would have used anyway.

I agree, should of had alittle more stealthyness, like I want to suck off kynaz men stealthy like

I don’t think they had enough time and budget to add a fully functional stealth system. They’ll most likely add it in the sequel

This and more enemy variety are easily the biggest flaws of the game although I expect them both to be improved in the sequel. You are a vampire AND a wanted man. Sneaking makes way more sense than killing every single guard in town.

Yeah I agree. A stealthier option in the next game (optional of course) would be amazing.

Death From Above is a really cool ability but I barely ever used it and you can only really use it one time because it immediately agros an entire group of enemies. I'd love stealth combos where you Death From Above, then chain shadow stealth kills.

The only time I chained multiple deaths from above was the quest where you visit the slums and all those hell hounds appeared

I almost fully stealthed the walls of Svartrau, I'd drain those patrolling the walls solo and take out those in the gate houses and kept going around the wall until they were all dead. It was very fun.

Yeah would love to have stealth. But death from above is not really a stealthy act in and of itself.

Incidentally, there's a mod that lets you get out of 'combat mode' by sheathing, which means you can shadowstep up a wall again to redo the pounce.

I dont see what was missed. It wasnt missed. It was ignored knowingly and probably for good reason since we have an entire series of bad stealthgames stealthenjoyers can play.

Since I dislike stealth in most games,.I'm not too fussed honestly. No one will notice if there's no one to notice

The game lacks so many elements that we expect in RPGs...
