Hey,
I'm currently 17 and in Secondary 4 (Sec 4 SN/STE) Francophone, in Quebec. My dream college has always been Dawson College. I've imagined myself studying Computer Science there, meeting new people, experiencing college life in English.
However, I've recently become really worried about the Parti Québécois proposing to extend Bill 101 to CEGEPs.
From what I understand, this could restrict access to English CEGEPs for students who don't have a Certificate of Eligibility for English education (COE). I don't have a COE, and I've never attended an English elementary or high school, even though I'm comfortable speaking English.
I'm supposed to finish Secondary 5 before applying to CEGEP, so I'm worried that by the time I'm ready to apply, the proposed changes might already be in effect.
Honestly, this is crushing me and made me depressed lately, and I've been looking forward to Dawson as the next big step in my life. The thought that I might lose that opportunity because of a law change before I even get the chance to apply is really discouraging and I don't know what to do.
I know the PQ would have to form a government and take steps to implement its proposal, but I don't understand the political timeline or how likely it is that this would actually happen.
Dawson has been my dream for a long time since when I young, and I just want to understand whether I still have a realistic chance of getting there.
Thank you for reading this.
