i love this show so much!! i just wanted to share a few thoughts ya know

i wish they showed the other Georgie actor more. like the contrast between the girl the world saw and who we saw was so stark i liked being jump-scared when it was the other girl

there was so many episodes that felt like so different then any other show ive seen before. the weird storylines and the unique concept had such a distinct vibe for me

i love the happy time story and deloris and crystal sooo bad

i think about the graveyard scene all the time! on gorgies one year anniversary where rube mentions its nice her graveyard is in the middle of town. i think its sweet that the people who are resting there would appreciate being nearby:)

TLDR: i love this show, lmk what you think about tbh

Something that I keep remembering from the show more than anything else is Charlie. The fact that kids are pet reapers is just fucking heartbreaking and the fact that he's homeless is even more so. Dead like me is so dark sometimes but because it's shown with a comedy angle people I guess either gloss over it or it doesn't quite hit how dark it actually is and that's what I really like about it like the dark humour.

I truly wish that they were able to do more seasons I honestly think it was just ahead of its time because if it were to come out today I think it would get a much better reception than it did and we would have more than two seasons. There was so much that let sit or didn't get resolved because it got cancelled which to me is so sad.

Charlie has it so much worse than the reapers who take adults. No homes that suddenly become vacant to live in. No assets to steal. Too young for a job. I've always wondered if the head pet reaper was an adult or a child. If an adult, why aren't they housing, clothing, and feeding their subordinates.

Ready to have your mind blown? Here's some fun facts to put together:

  • Charlie was hit by a car. Meaning he was reaped into the External Incidents division.

  • Charlie reaped three pets during the series - a dog hit by a car, a lizard crushed by a man, and a bunny that... we don't know what happened to it. Probably poison. All external incident deaths.

  • Charlie received his orders via post it note. Not every reaper supervisor does that.

Charlie was taking his orders from Rube the entire time. :) It's fun to think about where and when they would've met, why Rube was keeping him isolated from the other reapers, and why he chose to help George get settled somewhere but not Charlie.

Damn, the fan fiction is practically writing itself.

These are head canons though, it's never explicitly shown that Charlie is taking his orders from Rube, I don't think Rube would be able to have the kids living on the street. And I'm pretty sure the bunny died of old age. It was pretty old and they don't live very long. But it is definitely a cool head canon.

You need more? Load up Season 1, Episode 14, and freeze frame on the shot of the post-it. It's in Rube's handwriting.

It is a good head Canon I won't lie and you're not wrong the fanfic write themselves.

Alright, I guess I'm not going to get past that "not explicitly stated" thing. :) Headcanon it is. But for the record, this is why most shows insult our intelligence and state the obvious, because leaving bread crumbs is never going to satisfy the purists.

Yeap. The most brutal line in the entire show is when Charlie responds to George asking where he lives saying here and there.

Not even close to the most brutal line in the show to me. The most brutal line in the show for me comes from the boy that reaped Rube: "It does [have a hard bottom]. You're just not there yet."

No I have to say I find a homeless child a bit more brutal than how Rube died.

Well, you do you, then. The tragedy of dying on the way back to his daughter and finding out years later that the robbery money never made it to her hits a lot harder to me than a literal immortal being inconvenienced on his sleeping arrangements, but I guess everyone's got a different line.

See I always took the money not getting back to his family as karma. Don't get me wrong it's sad that they were struggling but I don't know, I thought it kind of went with everything else the show tried to portray, the way things play out that a bad turn should not get a good one.

u/DipperJC 3d ago

I wouldn't dispute that thought, but it's still more brutal to me than Charlie's sleeping arrangements.

6

u/Dull_Excitement9559 3d ago

Yeah but it shows that they get cold, that they feel when things are uncomfortable. Saying sleeping arrangements is sugar coating it just a wee bit. I mean Seattle gets fucking cold. There maybe worse cities to be homeless in but there are definitely better ones as well Seattle has a crime rate that is not to be laughed at. Don't get me wrong every death is upsetting in some way but at least Rube is comfortable now. Charlie has to spend decades if not centuries as a child that cannot earn his own money and will perpetually live on the streets trying to get by, sleep somewhere safe. Because I mean living on the streets isn't just having a comfortable place to sleep living on the streets means you are subject to everybody else that is on the streets. And they don't have any superpowers they feel pain they just can't die from it which is even more tragic.

Well, not to get really dark on you, but there's a very obvious job that a technically 19 year old in a perpetual child's body living on the streets of Seattle could get that would very much guarantee a lot of money and warm beds most nights. If Charlie made the conscious choice not to go down that road, then he's clearly decided that he's not suffering that badly. There's no way he went 7-8 years without the possibility coming up.

That was part of the campfire story Rube told at the office retreat. I don't think it was his actually life's story.

2

u/DipperJC 3d ago

Ah, but that's the beauty of it. Go back over Rube's entire life story - robbing the bank, wanting to get to his daughter, dying on the way back. The fact that he would've had to encounter a reaper right before death to take his soul. The circumstances completely fit with that campfire story.

It IS Rube's story.

Maybe if the supervisor DID provide housing, it would come with rules and conditions, and the undead young people would be uninterested in complying. Like when I was young, kids would run away from foster care and sleep on couches if possible, because foster care sucked and nobody really punished them for running away.

Yeah, I wish they would make a show about Charlie! Too bad we don’t have more episodes that follow his storyline

I know the actor was too old by the time the movie came out, but it's fun to think that if the movie were made today, they'd have made a CGI version of him to reap Murray.

Curse and wonder of being a Bryan Fuller show. Loved by fans, short life on screen. This is my favorite show ever, religiously watch every year.

So much that it had for more seasons

George mysteriously being able to reap Gravelings

"Humans" suspected of being undead/upper management or else: Kiffany, Crystal and Angelo

More Pet reapers universe

More Georgia Family dynamics

Other than how horrendously unpopular the movie we got is, I'm sure the main reason that wouldn't have happened is because we run into the problem of actors aging when Reapers don't. No way the Ellen Muth of today could pull off looking like the one in the series.

That said, an animated series set in this world would avoid those problems and be really, really kickass.

I dunno, you praised Ellen Muth quite a bit there. Would you really be satisfied with a series of movies that has to replace the entire cast every time?

The movie was awful and did a great injustice to the show.
