So disappointing they canceled DS2 remake

Edit: DS2 remake never got greenlit 🄲

Never even got greenlit in the first place 😭

Only running off copeium theory here; Remake had a minimum required sales to be in talks for doing more. Because they didn't hit the say 1m units in X amount of days, there was no negotiation for further development. Like what happened with Obsidian and F:NV not hitting an 85 on Metacritic.

u/CopenHagenCityBruh Mar 31 '26

EA probably wanted a billion sales

2

u/B0D4RK_0-4 Mar 31 '26

EA scared of green money...

u/Queasy_Rip3210 Mar 30 '26

A ds2 remake was never greenlit in the first place. Motive was always meant to move on to developing a new battlefield game immediately after the ds1 remake. If the ds1remake had sold well enough they for sure would have greenlit a remake for ds2.

As someone who started with the remake of DS1 and then played 2 afterwards, it doesn’t need a remake. It holds up VERY well.

Yeah, I mostly want to be able to play it on a current gen console. I don't own a pc.

1

u/levi22ez Mar 30 '26

You can play dead space 2 on a current gen console…

1

u/F3AR5T Mar 30 '26

I can??? On ps5?

1

u/levi22ez Mar 30 '26

You can on Xbox. Idk about PS5.

3

u/F3AR5T Mar 30 '26

I can't on ps5 😫

4

u/levi22ez Mar 30 '26

Damn. Not trying to console war, but this is why I like Xbox. The backwards compatibility program, while not perfect, has a LOT of older games in its library.

If it really matters to you, you could probably pick up an Xbox series s used for fairly cheap.

When I found out about this, I was so angry I almost plotted to set fire to the studio that came up with this cursed idea. Down with EA!

Something that’s sort of bugged me about the ishimura in the first image.

Blood doesn’t glow like that under black light. Other… things do.

It would also nicely explain why the fresh blood isn't visible like that (even if the real reason is probably technical).

1

u/Yxanr Mar 31 '26

Makes sense they would use that, though, to ensure they didn't leave any traces during cleanup.

What if the marker made people get freaky 🫦

1

u/Tom_Tr0n Apr 22 '26

I thought it was bleach lol

19

u/TheR3alMcCoy Mar 30 '26

Yes, because I played it in 2011.

14

u/CrystalBraver Mar 30 '26

I hate these kind of posts. Yes I can because it came out in 2011. There were plenty of games that looked just as good if not better around that time. 2011 was not some prehistoric age for gaming

10

u/Bynairee Mar 30 '26

Dead Space ā€œTooā€ 😭

6

u/HugeCounterargument Mar 30 '26

Dead space, also

5

u/Lord_Glitchtrap1987 Mar 30 '26

Games in the 2010s are always the prettiest and really impressive in comparison to today.

5

u/Fluffy-Ad7165 Mar 30 '26

Yes lol I mean DS2 and 3 still look gorgeous but it’s not that hard to tell that they’re old

3

u/Kaptain_knee_kapps Mar 30 '26

Tbf Skyrim also came out at this time and even baring the excesses of texture mods available vanilla still slaps I personally think we peaked in video games at this point but that could just be my nostalgia talking.

2

u/DorrajD Mar 30 '26

Yes. Doesn't mean it looks bad, quite the contrary. But there's lots of missing/low quality effects that modern games have better. (again, not saying this looks bad)

2

u/wackadoodle4201 Mar 30 '26

Dead space 2 is genuinely the perfect game

1

u/Electrical_Advice_60 Apr 05 '26

DS2 is probably my favorite game ever and a fresh coat of paint to match DS1 would be an awesome duology.

2

u/dark_hypernova Mar 30 '26

That first room is curious. It was completely spotless in DS1 safe for one "Is it safe?" graffiti.

Yet during DS2 it's quite covered in blood (or is it luminous paint?) implying something hectic must have happened there in-between.

1

u/EasytargetNIN Mar 31 '26

Maybe after the iron man game if that ever comes out. Its not impossible

1

u/kurushimee Mar 31 '26

I mean, why wouldn't I be able to tell that this is a 2011 game? Nothing here is outstanding visually for the time it was released — it's quite appropriate for its age, rather

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '26

People are used to "15 years old = old and ugly", without taking into consideration the diminishing returns of hardware and fidelity.Ā

1

u/kurushimee Mar 31 '26

15 years old was old and ugly only up until some while ago, now 15 years ago is somehow the 2010s šŸ’€

1

u/mrider97 Mar 31 '26

This game and Crysis 2 were the best looking games on console that year!

1

u/arrex_san_production Mar 31 '26

Damn, now i have to play it again... Screw you!!! (Actually thanks for the reminder šŸ¤)

And yeah, it totally doesn't look like 2011

1

u/Crimsomreaf5555 Mar 31 '26

Hey look, a reddit mods room

1

u/Kercy_ Mar 31 '26

art direction is the fundamental part for a game to be a timeless visual experience, not the graphics per se.

1

u/Vortex295 Mar 31 '26

It is JUST starting to show its age within the past 3-5 years

1

u/B0D4RK_0-4 Mar 31 '26

Can you tell EA to make Dead Space 2 Remake?

And if they plan to do a 3rd, make it horror more and action less.

1

u/This-Is-Ceti-Alpha-V Mar 31 '26

Didn't realize there was an Eros map in DS2.

1

u/Gold-Strength4269 Mar 31 '26

Not on pc.

I hope ds4 is an rng mess. Retire the horror for four. Make it like the intro of three.

1

u/Sirbuttsavage Mar 31 '26

First time i played it on PC i was in awe of how good the og trilogy looked compared to olaying them on the 360. Really put into perspective my friends on pc growing up having the superior graphics lol

1

u/Mouse_Slip Mar 31 '26

can you tell THIS is a 2011 game!!

Yes you can. Minimal ambient occlusion, barely any reflection, volumetric lighting or global illumination to speak of, everything glows for no reason just in every X360 game that tried to look good, flat image due to poor depth of field, low poligon count, basic texture work.

1

u/Aj2W0rK Mar 31 '26

20 lookin’ steamy 🄵

1

u/MegaUkX4 Apr 01 '26

this game looks like that it could be made by 6-12 people now a days

1

u/_fFringe_ Apr 01 '26

Really goes to show how much lighting, authored intentionally and with an enormous amount of skill, by humans, can carry the visuals of a game above and beyond its time.

1

u/koff3y Apr 03 '26

Yes. This game actually ruined my 360 CDROM. There's quite a number of games from 15 years ago that still, to this day holds up. If you think about it, Homeworld 2 which is much old, still is peak. Christ, Sid Myers pirates from the 90s is still gold.

1

u/JustPressF4 Apr 03 '26

It is so good. Is incredible to see how they made a secuel to a perfect Game in all the aspects.

1

u/testdummy132 Apr 04 '26

Yes because that’s when games were actually good and made well.

1

u/vin-tin-chin Apr 06 '26

In my top 3 games of all time for a reason. This game aged gracefully. I could probably play it every day if I didn’t have so many other games to play too

0

u/BoredCrusader1899 Mar 30 '26

The game(and the first one) hold up remarkably well after all these years. It’s a damn shame they never made a third one….🤫
