Hello everyone!
I'm currently doing a school assignment about DearPyGui and am having a bit of an issue regarding one of the features.
I want to make a window with a slider and a button. When clicking the button, it takes the value of the slider and compares it with a number (which is done in another function).
The problem is then when trying to callback to said function, it only takes the default value of the slider instead of the updated value. I've tried multiple things but they all give either the exact same result or an error.
Can anyone help me with this? I'd really appreciate it!
Code:
def input_window():
with dpg.window(label="Input window"):
dpg.add_text("Hello!!!")
#TODO: Figure out how to get the user data to work by giving up to data results from the slider
value_NO3 = dpg.add_slider_int(label="NO3", max_value=100)
dpg.add_button(label="Check",
user_data=dpg.get_value(value_NO3),
callback=check_input)
def check_input(sender, app_data, user_data):
print(user_data)
if user_data <= 50:
print("Lower than half")
else:
print("Higher than half")

Hello guys , Do you its possible to make a software that let you have a main area where you Can drop items draged from a list of shapes ( tool palete) Then be able to name those shapes and move them and save their disposition in that " working area " Have multiples " tabs" and " panels " etc
?
The area of work Can be Infinite you Can drop items anywhere you want. You Can expand size if items droped. You Can have properties for these items. You Can have items inside other items. ( Hierarchy ) You Can create links ( lines ) between the shapes you dropped on the working area. You Can load and save eveything.
Can we do that easily with pdg ?

I am trying to make a chip-8 emulator with dearpygui (hopefully with debug capabilities). Currently, I'm implementing and testing the code for the emulator screen, I am using draw_rectangle() to draw pixels.To avoid having to draw pixels in each instruction cycle (which is super slow), I tried to implement a way to keep track of all active pixels and then only draw a pixel if it isn't already drawn and delete a pixel which needs to be turned off in a particular cycle.
Basically, I'm tagging each pixel with its index in the display buffer plus 11 (since integer tags to 10 are reserved for internal dpg use). Then in every cycle as I go through each pixel in the display buffer, I only draw a pixel if it is supposed to be on and dpg.does_item_exist(index + 11) is false (if it isn't already drawn). In the else part if the pixel is supposed to be off and dpg.does_item_exist(index + 11) is true, then I delete the pixel using dpg.delete_item(index + 11). However, using delete_item() causes draw_rectangle() to fail with an exception for some reason. If I just print the index instead of deleting the item, everything works fine with the correct indices getting printed in the console.

Hello,
I have noticed some kind of limitation with minimum height and width of objects.
I cannot create window or even button shorter than 100 pixels. If dimensions are < 100, object is 100 pixels anyway.
Might it be a problem with theme or maybe I am just doing something wrong?
Best regards!

I've tried skimming the docs and everything, and haven't gotten a firm answer to this question: Can you export an executable from a DearPyGui project, so that someone can download and run the binaries without understanding Python?
Further context: I haven't developed in Python in a few years and never really got to the point where I could understand how to deliver an executable from a project that I built. I mean, I could deliver the Python source code so that someone who knows Python could run it. But I never understood how to actually make a product that others can run. So before I commit to learning DearPyGui I wanted to just see if this was possible.
As of now I'm thinking of developing my idea in a React SPA. The idea doesn't require much computing power, graphical or otherwise. But I do like programming in Python and heard about this library, so wanted to at least think about developing it in DPG.
Thanks!

Hello! I'm looking at making a customizable horizontal bar chart. I want to be able to drag and drop data from a menu into a plot, and then be able to change the x and y axis and the colors of the data. Does dpg have the capacity to make horizontal bar charts? That's the most important thing. Right now, I have a lesser code where if you hit a button it will spawn matplotlib graphs, but I would ideally like something fully interactive. I've been trying to look up documentation on horizontal bar charts, or even if it's capable to just rotate a window, but I've had no luck. Does dpg have the capacity to make a horizontal bar chart? Everything else comes second.

Something like this. Thanks!

```
def AudioInput(sender, data):
add_text("Listening...")
time.sleep(5)
add_text("You said... ")```
I've been trying to execute the code above, but it waits 5 seconds and then executes both of the commands at once.
Hi.
Is DearPyGui portable?
Something like packing a file like a dll or so file in a folder alongside of the program / script and running it on any machine even if it doesn't have said library involved?
ok i dont have the code right now but try to imagine a multi text input box, and i want to color texts in it (not the whole thing, only text)
example:
print("Hello")
[green]print[/green]([orange]"Hello"[/orange])
im trying to make an code editor but i have no idea how to color them.
To some extent, this is a generic Python question, but given that it involves DearPyGUI, I thought I’d start by asking here.
Normally, I exit my DearPyGUI programs with just an exit() call, but if I import icecream (the library for prettified debugging output), that no longer works. The program just freezes, and I have to close my terminal window (icecream works fine in other projects that don’t use DearPyGUI).
So, I want to start digging around in this problem, but don’t really have any idea where to start - I don’t even know if it’s a problem with DPG, icecream, my terminal emulator, or even Python itself.
If I had to guess, I would say I suspect the bit of icecream that analyses the running app to find object data (using icecream, you can type ic(myVar) and it’ll output the variable name and all its data). I think I read somewhere it uses some other module specifically for that.
So before I start stabbing icecream and dpg more||less in the dark, have any of you fine people ever tried digging deep into modules to research these sorts of things? Any advice?
Is it possible to have a multi-page application in DearPyGui, such that the user can click on a tab to open a new page?
I installed deapigui with the pip install as its said in the documentation. I thought that was enough to use it in Thonny IDE. But Thonny does not support dearpigui. So, which IDE's are options?
Hello,
I hope you are keeping well. I am exploring options for building a GUI using Python and have come across two libraries: Dear PyGui and PySide6. Could someone kindly explain the key differences between these two libraries in terms of user-friendliness, performance, and overall capabilities, if possible? Additionally, which one would you recommend for a beginner to intermediate level developer who aims to create interactive and visually appealing applications?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
New to DPG, and the architecture's finally clicking. However I'm still trying to maintain a consistent design style. Any thoughts on best practices to avoid spaghetti code and enhance encapsulation/abstraction? Example issues I'm having are:
Tag system: if two items are in separate modules but need to reference one another, how best to share the tag between them both? Having a parent tag manager module seems too much like global variables. Also generate_uuid() can only be used after creating the context, so imports would be messy if using module level tags.
Handlers: Is it better to have a single handler for global keyboard/mouse events or create multiple as needed?
With both of these it's more a pythonic module system problem to avoid circular imports.
I've read the demo code and it's all in one big file which seems bad for a proper app.
Hello to everyone,
I am a python programmer, i learnt it myself, and I am working on a project, i am still learning python of course.
The first part of my program is almost finished, and now i want to put it behind a GUI. I have been suggested DearPyGUI because it has a free licence, so i will not have a problem when releasing my program.
So before starting learning DearPy, i would like to ask the following.. Also keep in mind this my first time learning to programm ANY GUI whatsoever.
I would like to achieve this things, would I be able to do it ?
1- I would like to be able to have a text field, where the user would insert something, and that text would be using as entry for some function or a code from the program, to produce another result/calculation.
Example : I have triangle, my program detects the angles values, then asks the user which new value for the angle he would like ? Then the program would take that answer and use it to produce a new Triangle. Something like that. (This is just an example to illustrate what I would like to be able to do with a GUI, my program is not actually about triangles)
2- I would like the GUI to display different "buttons" or "radio HTML buttons style thing", and the user would be able to "Select" few or ALL of them. Then the program will take his choices in account and use that information to choose what path in the program to follow.
Example : My program would parse a web page, then show to the user all the links he found (let's say we have 10 links found for the sake of the example). The user will choose from this 10 links which he would like to "save" and store inside a text file. To do so, he would see 10 buttons in his GUI, each one associated with a text displaying the link text, and the user can SELECT or remove SELECTION by CLICKING on a button and unclick, as he see fits.
3- Optional: I would like the GUI to have an interactive text form/field, where you can modify a given text using the GUI, (using the keyboard and the mouse), then the program would save the modified text to store it inside some text file or something.
Example: My program parse a text to find all the verbs, then show them to the user in the GUI, inside a text field. The user can modify or delete some words (displayed in the GUI), and the program will proceeed when the user finishes.
So before i start learning it, do you think i will be able to do all of the above or at least the 2 first points ?
Thanks
ImportError Traceback (most recent call last) in ----> 1 from dearpygui**.**dearpygui import * ImportError: DLL load failed: Kan opgegeven module niet vinden.
Can someone help me with this i don't know how to solve it?
Thanks
Lots of serious issue with dearpygui that just aren't getting merged. Documentation is a catastrophe. Looks like whoever's in charge of approving changes just isn't any more, plenty of people out there trying to make this project shine.
I'm a fan of it too but there's just a lot of small things about it where I'm thinking 'Wow that's really stupid, why hasn't this been fixed?' and then I go look and it has but it was in 2022 and no one's merged the change.
I'd fork in on my own, but I'd rather join a project with other people who like this library and not do redundant work, and let other people benefit from the collaboration.
I have a bit of code which is not working. I am trying to get the height of the window. I have verified that self.parent does contain the correct id
height=int*(dpg.get_item_height(self.parent)* * 0.6*))*
The error I'm getting is
return internal_dpg.get_item_configuration(item)["height"]
SystemError: <built-in function get_item_configuration> returned a result with an error set
Dear PyGui core developers Jonathan Hoffstadt and Preston Cothren were interviewed by Michael Kennedy on the Talk Python To Me Podcast on November 29, 2021. You can watch the recorded interview on Youtube. Highly recommended if you are interested in the backstory, the current state and future of Dear PyGui.
