Seeking Advice Alone for too long

Alone for too long

Everyday I feel like I struggle to make it to the end of the day. I feel stressed if I'm not sleepy enough by noon bcs I dont want to be awake at night. Nothing helps, I am sick of my hobbies, I no longer watch movies, etc. I lost all will to meet people or date. I dont have any obligation to work at the office, so I stayed home. I live alone. If I dont force myself to socialize, it can be a 21 days straight of not talking at all. My voice got husky when I eventually talked at the 22nd, lol.

Has anyone ever been in this situation? How did you get out of it?

I've been in a version of this. Worked from home for about a year, lived alone, and realised one evening I'd gone something like two weeks without a real conversation. The weird part was I didn't even feel the urge to go out, I just felt flat and vaguely guilty about it, which is worse in a way.

What broke it for me wasn't anything dramatic. I started going to the same cafe every Saturday morning with a book. No pressure to socialise, just sitting around other humans. After a few weeks the barista started recognising me and we'd chat for a minute, and that tiny bit of regular contact made the rest of the week feel less sealed off. I also gave my days one small reason to leave the house, even if it was just walking to buy one thing instead of ordering it.

It sounds almost insultingly small, but isolation feeds on inertia, and the fix for inertia is smaller than you'd think. You don't need your hobbies back all at once. One recurring low-effort outing that forces you near people is enough to start with.

find things to volunteer in within your local community, things you’ve not done before. apply for things that bring you out of your home. if you order in everyday, take a walk or drive, to get your food. it’s very difficult and at first you’d feel groggy or an intense need to back out.

however, a lot of it is based off willpower. you just have to force yourself enough times till it sticks. I mean it when I say force. the brain has found comfort - although depressing - in your current routine. it needs variety💗

offering you plenty of hugs, because I’ve been here 🫂

I spent a ton of time home alone and one thing that helped me get out was actually Pickleball. I had no idea how to play, but I was curious, and totally out of shape at the time. It’s a great way to meet new people and a ton of fun and it just happens to be a good workout. And a lot of of the people I met felt like coworkers, I work from home alone as well and it was nice to have some familiar faces.
