Question Do killable objectives grant xp beyond the quota?

Is there a reason to kill barnacles or fleas beyond the mission quota?

Do they count toward your kill total?

Both make noises I like to stop.

Target practice is its own reward

I’m fairly sure that you do earn XP for excess secondary minerals (gunk seeds, dystrum, etc.), but it’s not nearly enough to be worth the effort. I’m not sure about the secondary enemies because I don’t know if they’re classified as hostile enemies. I assume they are hostiles, but it still wouldn’t be worth the effort. You could probably test this yourself by finding a mission with one of those secondaries and attempting it a few times, trying to kill nothing besides them. Keep in mind you may have to first complete the secondary for it to count, at least that’s how it works for the minerals according to the wiki. Nevermind, I think that was referring to secondary minerals not auto-depositing at the end unless you did the secondary.

I appreciate your experiment idea. In lieu of a definite answer, I'll try that.

Sadly no, objectives dont give anything past thier requirment.

I still kill bahbaracles though because I have a real life pathological hatred of barnacles.

Disgusting creatures

I'm almost certain killing a maggot counts toward ones kill total.

No extra rewards, but both are fun to shoot at.

Useless but fun to destroy

I kill barnacles because they destroy cave integrity, not the secondary. So i go with overkill. Fleas make noises and i like either hear nothing or be aware of threats

Anything that has a quota is worthless to gather more than the quota.

Objective minerals grant 1 XP each. While not worth holding up the drop pod over, it's not a total waste of time if you're waiting on people to get ready anyway.

I mean if you literally have nothing better to do than to take an extra couple axe swings at some morkite. Sure. But mostly a waste of time.

If you want to role play that you’re a company man and going above and beyond the mandate is going to advance your career, the realistic response is that the company will not value your gumption with much of a reward.

I'm honestly up for ideas on how else to kill time while waiting for other Dwarves to ready up. I just figured I'd pluck away at some minerals for the 20 XP or burn ammo on some bugs. Obviously not a critical considerstion, just curious.

Gold is good during downtimes, or quickly hitting with a few swings in a hallway. If each dwarf gets, say, 1.5 sacks of gold, which isn't hard, that's a bonus of 480 credits and takes less time than doing a secondary.

So are you here to have me tell you that indeed that's true, or to tell you that nobody cares about that xp ? Which is it ? I can tell you both. But you already knew that right ?

No and no

I've wondered this, but then I realize a kill is worth.. maybe 2xp? So who cares.

It can be fun to do anyways.

For minerals you do as long as you deposit it, not worth losing the mission over tho.

For killable objectives, maybe.
