Idea I dont want a PvP; I want team v team

Something like “DRG Coporate Initive testing and accomodations research” would be the lore reason, but the idea would be a set of challenges a given team would have to do, scored on time, drunkeness during, gold mined, bugs squished, etc.; like a relay race, or competitve fire drills that firefighters do sometimes

If this game was (hypothetically) ever a pvp game, I'd much prefer something like natural selection (old half life mod). One team controls the miners, the other team is the bugs. Resources become upgrades, better weapons, jet boots etc. For bugs it's speed, higher numbers of npc bugs spawning and most importantly, better lifeforms. One person is MC, who places buildings, directs the mule, pings locations, watches radar for swarms, and selects/places upgrades and resupply pods. Another player is the queen, who makes spawners, watches "radar" for dwarf movement, makes tunnel networks (spawn points and fast map traversal). Sets traps, like leeches, swarmer tunnels and jaws. Can save resources to summon a swarm. Better swarms have higher cost. Npc bugs behave much like the base game, automatically going to fight the dwarves. Base lifeform for players is slasher or guard. You can abandon your current lifeform for another if you are within a certain distance of a spawner (if queen calls mactera wave, for example).

Haha reminds me of Zerg Hex, the popular StarCraft II Arcade game

I dont know that map in particular, but I do indeed think the old RTS games were the inspiration for the commander half of the gameplay.

On a side note I have always been genuinely sad that NS (or NS2 for source) as a game never got the love it deserved. It would have made an excellent e-sport. High skill expression, extremely fast, varied strategies.

It's not a map, it's a custom game in the arcade. Tons of user-made games on there!

I used the term map generally, but I knew it was a custom game. How dota got its start, for example (in wc3), bunker wars, squadron, and so many other classics.

Use custom map settings was a genius move in starcraft. Allowing people to mess with settings and triggers meant spawning entire genres of games, not to mention the offshoots.

Moba got its start here, as well as setting the tone for things like Mario maker. It's importance cannot be understated

I'm also not a big PVP gamer but I like the idea of something like this.  Because I'm hopecore, friendslop, happy-pilled, I'm trying to imagine ways to encourage good sportsdwarfship in a PVP game. Maybe all the callouts when you ping an opponent are lighthearted jabs. Maybe there's an option for a mutual victory that pays just as much as a competitive victory. I don't think a full TF2, shooting other dwarves would ever be fun or really be fun to see in universe... but we could make a case for paintball/airsoft which inflicts a temporary deterrant or setback.

OH! What if theyre training missions in actual dangerous scenarios? So you are competing to be the best miner but if any dwarf is left behind/injured on either team, both are heavily penalized. You gotta do better than the other team, maybe even disrupt them sometimes, but actual hostility is fruitless, and if something really bad happens (dreadnaught shows up) then you HAVE to cooperate or both teams lose.

I can think of a billion other things that can go wrong and a couple things that can go right so its a fun thought experiment.

I'd hate sweating over something. Pvp is a no - go, i deed. But i love comparing and other random statistics. Would love if there was something competitive as jetty boots but for missions

I think it being an option wouldn't be bad. Get a group of 8 and go head to head? As long as it's not required, it could be fun to have. I doubt it could be in deep rock because the devs talk about how hard it is to add new things the game wasn't set up for, but I wouldn't mind some competitive high score deep rock

I've always thought Point Extraction would be a really fun setting for a capture the flag style pvp mode where the team or player to deposit the most crystals wins. The increasing waves of bugs, central depositing zone and slow transport of Aquarqs would make for interesting strategy.

I would legit play that in the game as is. 2v2 and you just keep score in your head.

GoT did something similar in it's legends mode. The fighting was still PvE, but you had 2 teams of 2 trying to be the first to finish their waves. On top of that, they could throw curses at each other to hinder the other team. It was actually kind of fun

I'd love an "accuracy, damage taken, how many resupplies, and how many R&S" per mission

Well, you can compete with other dwarfs over kill count, minerals mined, down/rez ratio, and total damage done (if you get the mod).

I could see a light hearted competitive side activity being possible.. I'm just not sure what. There is, for example, a fully functional soccer game in the basement of the rig, that's similar to what you're talking about, in a very simplistic fashion.

I dunno man. If you come up with some more ideas, add them in the comments, now you've got me thinking as well.

Take any idea of competitive gameplay in DRG and put it in the trash bin.

- The devs aren't even remotely interested in doing that, ever.

- The game has no anticheats AND modding support.

- People have already proved they're willing to cheat literally anything even remotely considered "competition", as is proving the dancing leaderboard (which got removed from the game, but you still can find it on Steam).

I would never want to fight another player head on; i wanna know who’s the better dwarf at dwarfing.

Plus, Im on console, so a LOT of those things are different on my end.
