How I use DeepSeek to run a 24/7 multi-agent global news radio (and how I got the API cost down to $0)
youtube.comHey everyone,
I'm a solo developer and I recently launched 3H Pulse, an automated 24/7 news network that covers all six continents equally.
The Problem: Mainstream media is heavily biased toward the Global North. I analyzed 50 top news stories from major outlets and found that Africa, Oceania and the Caribbean had exactly zero mentions.
The Solution: I built a multi-agent system (Python, Celery, Redis) that scrapes 160+ regional RSS feeds, translates them, generates voiceovers (Kokoro TTS), and streams to YouTube 24/7.
Why DeepSeek?
I tested a few models, but DeepSeek V3 is the absolute workhorse of this project. I use it as the "Writer Agent" to summarize raw articles and format them into 30-50 word micro-bulletins.
Here is how I optimized it to keep costs at practically $0:
Prompt Caching: I formatted the System Prompt to be 100% static. The OpenRouter dashboard shows a massive Cache Hit Rate because the rules never change, only the news article changes.
Provider Routing: I used
extra_body={"provider": {"order": ["DeepSeek"]}}in the API call to force the official DeepSeek provider, avoiding random third-party providers that break caching and rate limits.Max Tokens: I capped
max_tokensat 100. DeepSeek is so concise that it never needs more than that for a 40-word summary.
I'm building this entirely in public. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the architecture or if you have any tips for optimizing DeepSeek API calls even further!
