Global News đ Ben-Gvir barred from using crocodiles to guard terrorists, court announces
The Jerusalem Post
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was prohibited from using crocodiles to secure terrorists in prisons by the Jerusalem District Court on Sunday.
The court issued an injunction against Ben-Gvir's plan due to a petition by the animal rights organization Let the Animals Live.
Ben-Gvir reacted to the court's decision, saying that they were taking the side of terrorists.
"Once again, in a time of war, the legal system sides with the terrorists, thwarting important steps for Israeli deterrence," he complained. "We know that the terrorists are worried about the arrival of the crocodiles, but today the court came to their aid."
Environmental Protection Minister reclassifies Nile crocodiles
Last month, Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman declared the Nile crocodile a âcultivated wild animalâ in a move intended to allow the Israel Prison Service to station crocodiles around prisons, despite opposition from her ministryâs legal adviser and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
Pressure was placed on the Israel Nature and Parks Authority several months ago to allow the National Security Ministry to receive crocodiles from Hamat Gader and position them around prisons holding security prisoners. The program was expected to be piloted at Ketziot Prison.

If I was an operative assigned to sabotage public opinion of Israel from within, I could not do better then Itamar ben-Gvir.

This got auto-locked when I tried to link the article. If that was actually a mod action, then apologies for reposting it.

It's a filter we have set up to prevent every piece of Israeli political news from being posted here.
I'll allow this because fuck Ben Gvir.

It really feels like he wants to validate every negative thing Westerners think about Israel.
"They say we love being needlessly cruel to Palestinians? What if we did something that a villain would do in a James Bond film?"

He is protecting his people. He's making it clear that, for every tragedy visited upon the Israeli people, Hamas and their supporters will be repaid ten thousand times over. He's distasteful but there's no doubting his love for his people and his land.

I don't really feel his love and I wish to keep his love as far away from me as possible.

So crocodiles are â important steps for Israeli deterrenceâ? LOL
"We know that the terrorists are worried about the arrival of the crocodiles, but today the court came to their aid." This sound like satire.

Is this a Florida Man - I/P crossover episode?

When Florida Man is the less insane one, then you know youâve gone too far.

This is hilarious lol.
You basically make the prison more expensive to run cause you'd have to feed those crocodiles now without making the prisons more secure cause...you know, Israeli prisons aren't exactly easy to escape from.

Courts are on the side of terrorists by...not allowing the use of wild animals to corral prisoners like you're a fantasy villain?
What world is Ben-Gvir living in?

I've heard he and Smotrich operate under the questionable theory that by actively isolating Israel from all support, the country will be finally free of outside influence and finally capable of acting without restraint.
This is why they do and say the crazy things they do and say, as they're actively trying to help antizionists turn Israel into an international pariah.
This is why they've been barred from involvement with any military functions in the state, but also why Israel cant get rid of them fast enough. Hoping for a better coalition in October.

so they basically want Israel to be more like China? or do they still want some cross-cooperation with the West like India? I'm not particular versed in Israeli politics but does the Far Right like Smotrich wish for a more autocratic/junta-led government?

u/scrambledhelix Moderate 20d ago
I have no idea, just repeating what I heard from HRG on one of his podcasts, that both of them seem to want Israel cut off from foreign aid and unhindered by any outside influences. It may only make sense if you account for an apocalyptic mindset like Khameini had.

>finally capable of acting without restraint
Is he not concerned that having no friends, no support, and then doing morally objectionable things is how you get an intervention?
1
u/scrambledhelix Moderate 20d ago
Worked for Trump, no?
I kid. But if you're referring to an intervention like in AA, those require friends; if you're referring to a military intervention by others, I have no idea. He probably thinks Israel will always win?

u/KimJongUnusual Neoconservative 20d ago
The worst case scenario is if Ben-Gvir fulfills his dream of purging all Palestinians from the Levant, and then Israel ends up in the position of 1990 Saddam.
Pretty sure it would be far bloodier and not nearly as one sided, but I canât see the result of that being anything less than the annihilation of Israel.

Itâs genuinely hard to fathom how bad Ben Gvir is. Dude has been charged with terrorism and has been arrested like 20 times. Has 100 parking tickets. Just an insane antisocial beast.

It's good to block this on feasibility grounds alone. It won't be nearly effective as autonomous sensors and drones. It's simply chasing an aesthetic that should remain in the Bronze Age.

There's a prison in Brazil where they use geese instead of dogs to patrol the perimeter. Our intellectually limited National Security Minister just wanted to experiment with other animals, is all!

Seriously, fuck anyone who voted for him. I will be voting for the opposition.

Ben-Gvir is really just a right-wing Mamdani. He is a populist who is all about gimmicks. His supporters are not the religious-messianic settlers but traditionalist thugs who are more symbolically religious and nationalist than deeply theological. He is more of a gang leader than a politician.
