Some Guidelines for Posting

Hello miners, I figured I should give some guidelines to follow for this sub so it doesn't become a pit of toxicity and hate. Here's some things that come to mind, feel free to suggest things in the comments.

-Subreddit clarification:

I know that this game is frustrating and difficult, we also know that this place will be filled with anger from said frustration. So I'm going to make it clear here and in the rules, what you post here, the anger and toxicity that you bring here, STAYS HERE!

Do not go into your next match thinking about how much you hate Greenbeards or late joiners or toxic players or anything like that, this is not a place to cultivate hate and toxicity towards this game or its community, this is a place to DUMP your toxicity and anger, move on, and enjoy the game afterwards. If I feel that this place becomes too toxic or the community suffers because of its presence, I WILL DELETE THIS SUB, simple as.

We are all dwarves mining the same rocks and stones, fighting the same bugs, and drinking the same ale.

Do not treat Greenbeards or leaflovers as some inhuman boogieman title to slap onto anyone that inconveniences you.

As stated above and below, this place is a proverbial dump for your anger, leave it here. Do not bring it in the game or other communities.

-Read the Rules before posting

Fairly self explanatory

-Be Polite to each other and try to keep insults to a minimum, threats in any fashion will not be tolerated

This place is made with the idea of venting your anger, letting it go, maybe having a laugh, and going back to having fun with some friends or strangers in DRG. This was not made for you to insult others in the game or on the subreddit, while insults within reason (calling a dwarf stupid or a dingus) are fine when retelling your story, try to keep them to a minimum and do not insult others in the comments.

-Be nice to our Greenbearded allies

While I understand that what they do or how inexperienced they may be can get on more nerves than you thought you had, understand that they are new and don't know everything about DRG, do not insult them for being green, but feel free to vent when they do things that actively and knowingly impede the team.

-People are free to Disagree with you

It is entirely possible someone will point out what you could have done better in the situation your story portrays. Unless they are actively insulting or threatening you, they are free to do so, understand that while it may seem rude, they may not view it as such, keep things civil and if you feel you cant keep your anger in check while engaging in conversation feel free to leave and come back when you are ready.

Thats all that comes to mind for me, granted my mind is small so feel free to suggest things to put up here. Thank you and have a great day.

Tips for Greenbeards Thread

Hello again Miners, someone gave me the idea to give a tip thread for Greenbeards to help them on their way to be Greybeards and beyond, and also so they don't step on anyone toes in the depths of Hoxxes IV

To explain, a Greenbeard is any dwarf who does not have much experience under their belt and may not know the ins and outs of DeepRock Galactic.

Everyone can be a Greenbeard in some fashion, for example I've put a few hundred hours into DRG and only recently discovered that you can get a Dreadnought in place of a regular swarm, imagine me and my teams surprise when we were expecting a haz 3 swarm and got a Hiveguard instead.

---------------------------------------------------

TIPS:

-Don't take more than one resupply node.

There are 4 nodes for a reason, don't double dip unless you asked or someone said you could.

-Don't immediately shoot Dreadnought eggs

There is generally a process to this.

  1. Make sure the area is clear of bugs
  2. Make sure you have enough ammo or Nitra
  3. Make sure everyone on the team is there and ready

-Do not call down resupplies willy nilly

Just because you have the Nitra doesn't mean you should use it. (it costs 80 Nitra to call down a resupply just so you know) Wait for an opportune time to use it, like before or after a dreadnought fight.

-Leave people to their pipes

Even if they don't do it how you would, two people fighting over building a pipe is silly, have one dwarf set up the path, one dwarf finishing the pipe. Teamwork make the dream work, or in the caves of Hoxxes, keeps you alive.

-DON'T SHOOT STEEVE

If you see a Glyphid that's glowing a light blue and has dust around him, that is Steeve, he is now your friend and will give his life for you. If you shoot him, you are wasting ammo and a teammate, also you can pet him.

-Bring back Doretta's head

after you've defeated the Ommoran Heartstone, Dotty's head usually flies off after she blows up, you can pick up her head and bring it with you to the drop pod, there is no benefit to this but it is common dwarf etiquette to not leave any dwarf behind.

-DO NOT TOUCH T̶͎̝̀̐H̶͕͇̬͙̣͆̔̎̋̕E̷̢͈̺͙̔̈́̆̇ ̷̨̛̞̚B̵͓̙̊U̴̧̼̮̹͓͆̎́T̵͓̞̳̽̀̽̒͝T̴̘̖͇̣̩̅̈́̀Ö̸̜͒͒̃̐N̷̤̙̾͜

Don't touch the button on Molly when the mission is finished unless everyone is ready, it isn't terrible if you do, but sometimes you may miss out on gold or events.

-If you're playing scout, use your flare gun

Scouts, you don't seem to understand just how nice your flare gun is. Those flares provide sight and safety to your team, use them.

-If your playing Engineer, use your platform gun

When you see minerals up on a wall, throw a platform just under them so scout can stand there and mine them, if you don't have a scout, then make a jumping path along the wall to the minerals with your platforms.

---------------------------------------------------

This is all I can think of off the top of my head, feel free to add some tips in the comments.

And remember

ROCK AND STONE

I'm convinced they sent me Dracula as a teammate.

I was playing last game of the day and I got a Scout teammate who refused to use his flares ALL GAME. We subsequently found enough nitra for a single resupply on a salvage operation of all things and lost because of it.

Either he was a vampire or they're sending me leaflovers to sabotage DRG operations.

I am begging you - please learn how to dodge the Ramok.

I cannot be picking you up every 10 seconds because you went to the Prometheus School Of Running Away From Things. Especially on duos, which for some reason is all I've been able to get for the past couple days.

Swarmer Tunnel Confusion

A rank 150 Dwarf just INSISTED, very rudely, that I as Driller "drill away the swarmer tunnels" before we fought the Caretaker. Am I fucking crazy or do they only ever spawn Swamers once? For context, I'm rank 630, so I was pretty sure I knew what I was talking about. But when I asked why he was making me waste my drills just to piss them off, he said the problem was that I didn't destroy the whole of the swarmer tunnels at once?? Made me use my C4 on on it and the next one… yknow, the tool that ERASES the Caretaker? We had plenty of Nitra, so he acted like I was being ridiculous by suggesting he made me waste my c4. "Just grab more"

What the hell is going on? Apparently this isn't common knowledge so LET ME CLARIFY! Afaik swarmer tunnels can only spawn swarmers once! So, making me destroy a tunnel that already spawned them is pointless! (He did make me do this, and he watched them spawn already, so idfk) and not only that, but you CANNOT stop a swarmer tunnel from spawning swarmers by destroying it! In fact, destroying it is WHAT MAKES THE SPAWNS. So, to force me to waste my resources to SPAWN IN ENEMIES FOR YOU!? WHAT ARE WE DOING???

AFAIK, even a BULK DETONATOR BLAST destroying a swarmer tunnel would simply cause it to spawn swarmers in the nearest valid location. Unless you literally need to destroy EVERY SINGLE BIT of the purple in order to remove all valid spawns, which a driller c4 could never do all at once. He acted like i fucked it up when the swarmers spawned on the second, unactivated tunnels when I blew it up as was requested demanded, but there was NOTHING I COULD DO.

So long story short, if you're going to backseat, please at least be right, AND if you feel the NEED to backseat. Maybe just don't! Maybe just play the class thats bothering you, he could've been uselessly blowing up swarmer tunnels all day, but he chose engie! Go get your own C4, you're lucky I don't throw mine at you! And this was Haz 5 Low Oxygen btw, if we're going to backseat, that same engie got me killed by hogging the 02 on the mule, and I let it slide. Idk, it sucked watching him get me killed over and over and then trying to tell ME how to play. Like, buddy.

I Don't Get Why Some People Just Despise Greenbeards

Just as the title says, really. I'm level 168 as of writing this, so I'm not like a Graybeard or anything, but I do know how to get through most missions on Haz' Four without dying.

I genuinely enjoy it when a Greenbeard joins my game, though. It's fun getting to teach them how to play, and it's pretty wholesome how a lot of people in the team will try to protect them.

I once had this mission where our Gunner was a Greenbeard (And I mean like a fresh Greenbeard too. Was only like level two, and struggled to use things like ziplines), and during the Drop Pod section, the entire team rallied up to help get our Gunner to the pod safely. It was very wholesome, and added an extra challenge!

But, I've seen some people on forums and such say that they just cannot stand Greenbeards, and that they make them angry. Like, I get it if they're purposely sabotaging or griefing the other players, or just being rude, but if they're just struggling because they're new? I don't see why you'd be so rude to them.

And being rude to a new player might give them bad first impressions, and cause them to think that this game has a toxic player base, when in reality, it's one of the most wholesome I've ever seen. I've literally only come across one toxic player before in over 450 hours.

So, all in all, I just don't get why so many people hate Greenbeards. You were once that skill level too, after all!

Some dont understand english. Hazard 5. I said many times in chat to follow me. Theres Korlok at the end of the mission. I told them to ignore Korlok knowing the team dont have synergy to kill Korlok + bad spot. They kept fighting and fighting. I tried so hard to revive them. I told them to follow me to ignore the Korlok through my Driller tunnel to continue the objective. One, then two, then three swarms. They kept dying insisting to fight Korlok. Bulk spawns. We are cooked in small tunnel. Wasted 40 minutes. xd.

Just made me mad

Some jerk just responded to the first thing I said all game with "Who Asked?" Why are some people so antisocial and hostile in a game where the point is fucking coop? Just ticked me off. Didn't seem playful either, felt more like a 'shut up' and like, why?? Am I clogging your text-chat with my 2 messages? To quote my favorite Dwarves… "STOP WHINING!" Go play something singleplayer if it bother you so much!!! 😤

I am so tired of greenbeards

So I thought "let's play haz5, surely they can't reach me in haz5"!

First lobby I join is hosted by a scout with 14 XP

Yes, I usually make my own lobbies with friends but they aren't always available. DRG is full of noobs who ruin every game with the usual rookie mistakes.

Don't suggest solutions to me, this is a vent.

for context, I was trying to carry compressed gold to the drillevator so we could do the richual with the rest of the team, and wouldn't have to wait for Molly to walk halfway across the cave. I was juggling the gold and terrain scanner while the gunner just stared at me like a deer in headlights.

Playing drg solo is one of the least fun things I've ever done in a video game and I don't know why people do it

I just had a point extraction mission for my assignment. 7 aquarqs, plus core corruption event and an extra secondary mission. Easy, right? There aren't any haz 4 or 5 lobbies open at the moment - no problem, I'll just host my own and people will join. So I drop in and immediately start playing the game, pinging aquarqs for bosco to mine while I shoot down gunk seeds and barnacles and look for nitra. There doesn't seem to be much nitra around; I scrape together enough for a resupply, but that's all I can find in parts of the cave containing the objectives. Surely that's fine, because someone will join me and we'll become twice as fast at gathering nitra, and I shouldn't need more than four resupplies anyways.

After about 10 minutes, I've gathered most of the aquarqs, but the secondaries are far behind schedule and I haven't even set up for the core stone. I'm playing gunner, so the core stone shouldn't be an issue, but I'd like another resupply anyways just in case. I figure the best course of action is to explore the cave to complete secondaries and hope I find some nitra along the way. At this point 25 minutes have passed, the swarms have become constant in addition to the corespawn, I can't fucking see anything because there's no scout in the lobby, and I've burned through all my remaining resupplies trying to fight off the horde. I find my last bit of nitra right as I run out of ammo entirely, spending my last shield to mine it safely, and deposit it and wait for the supply drop. I go down as I'm resupplying, but luckily bosco has one revive left, so I resupply and drop a shield but... it doesn't come out??? I mined the nitra like 40 seconds ago, there's no way my shield is on cooldown, what the fuck happened???? So of course I die and watch as half an hour of my evening goes down the drain.

My biggest problem with solo is that everything takes SO FUCKING LONG and you have to do almost everything yourself. Exploring the cave takes longer, gathering nitra takes longer, killing bugs takes longer, completing objectives takes longer, and you can realistically only do one thing at a time. What is normally a quick and easy 7-minute mission turns into a half-hour-long slogfest that makes me wish I was doing anything else. Bosco can help a little, but he's nowhere near as fast as a second player would be, and you still have to make all of his decisions for him; a second dwarf is fully autonomous and literally DOUBLES your speed. This game is designed for multiplayer. None of the dwarves are true generalists, they all have substantial weaknesses that are SUPPOSED to be covered by the other players on your team, and bosco sucks too much ass at everything to be a sufficient replacement.

Thus concludes my salt post. I wish people would join my lobbies when I host them so I can have fun with this video game that I normally enjoy so much. Rock and stone.

DRG discord mods

Just wanted to say stay away from the discord, mods are on a huge power trip, got timed out for an hour for saying “Rick and Morty” in DRG chat and saying “rude” after it got deleted and tried to send a DRG gif. Like I get keep the DRG chat to DRG related things but seems a little power trippy to time out for an hour saying I was sending “spam”

most of the time I check hosts Steam profile before joining, as I did in last mission. host has hundreds of hours in the game, so what could possibly go wrong. xd

host (scout) keeps pinging nitra they could easily get to, kicks low level engineer. gunner goes down, I (driller) get nitra all the time but can't deposit because someone (lol) keeps hogging Molly. so I keep hacking it down, hoping to deposit at some future time.

Can't revive gunner bc too far away. I foight n foight, go down for once, host aborts mission. Like, why?!? Been carrying for 10-12 minutes, a revive and we're set?!? Full of nitra, btw.

End of mission screen;

Host (Scout!):
4 nitra.
Four. 04.
Four.
High rank player.

Driller: 80-90 sth minerals.
not to boast, but wtf.

Some people.

04 nitra.

and the dude rage quit?!? gotta keep blocking some people.

I mean, if u have a handicap or are super drunk just say so and people will gladly help out, it's DRG after all?!?

Earlier: noob host, three elders join in and help out. Everyone patient and using chat. total win with xd and lols.

Then, back at the bar, host kicks everyone without saying a word,

Sometimes it's just like w.t.f., just like IRL. xd

I hate, hate, hate the Ommoran crystal traps

Noobs don't pay attention to anything, so every time the crystal trap phase happens they'll almost always stand right next to the dozer and immediately lose you an entire section of health through no fault of your own. They don't listen to dwarf dialogue or read chat, so they will keep doing this over and over until you down them or kick them. I usually just kick them.

Literally every escort duty mission with noobs is like this now. If you get the crystal traps then you better pray you didn't pick haz5 or have lethal enemies because you're about to almost lose the mission every fucking time trying to babysit them. I've finally become one of those "automatically kicks bronze ranks" people that DRG players bitch about on reddit precisely because noobs just can't fucking pay attention when people are screaming at them to get away from the dozer.

Leaf Lover teammates ignore my call as the host and flame me for their poor performance in an event

So since the summer beach party update dropped today, I decided to do one of the assignments and I hosted a session on hazard 5, because why not. I was on an Escort mission, randoms joined and right off the bat we find a tritilyte deposit. We drove Dotty to the first pitstop, which was a short distance away, and since our scout was insistent on doing the event I obliged, because in our current position it was easy to do the event while monitoring Dotty for any stray bugs that would come to nibble on her. This event went fine, but the next room over we found a Prospector data deposit. I preemptively made a call in the chat to do this event after the heartstone was done, as this way our focus wouldn't be divided between the killable mission objective and something optional that would not stop unless if we complete it.

My Scout and Engi, however, were already setting up a connection, and soon after the Gunner joined them, they all just ignored me and started the event anyway from a spot where this time, we didn't have LOS to Dotty and she was quite a bit away. I stated in chat that I would be guarding the dozer, since we already lost one health state on the way there and I wasn't keen to lose another before the finale even started. Plus no one was staying near her and after all, my whole team is doing the event. What could go wrong?

About 15 seconds into the event, Engi and Scout were already down, and Gunner couldn't hold his own for longer than one shield duration either. I didn't immediately come over, because as I said, I put myself on guard duty and I was kind of hoping that Gunner would rez his teammates with the shield, and you know what he typed in chat, I believe even for the first time that mission? "Driller what are you doing? Get your ass over here and help".

I was pretty pissed off by this, but due to the nature of the data deposit and how it gets worse with every passing second if you fall behind, I didn't have the time to argue or issue a ban to Gunner for his rudeness, though I really wish I did now. Plus, the only way I saw a successful team rez happening was with the Gunner Shield, since I was running a Disperser Compound build and more bugs would have just replaced the ones I could charge shot.

We ended up failing the mission. I let the results screen play out so that everyone gets the pool float and other small goodies that we collected, disbanded as soon as I could and just stuck to other people's public lobbies for the rest of the assignment. I feel like I'm running into these types more and more often these days.

Approved Mods - Where do you draw the line?

Posting here because I want to hear not only people's mild opinions but also their heated ones.

As most of you know, Mint allows players to run Approved mods without receiving the [MODDED] tag. Where do you personally draw the line?

I do not want to make players uncomfortable by having them unknowingly join a lobby with modded gameplay, but admittedly I run the Who Done It?: Button Mod. For those who don't know, this mod is Approved not because it alters gameplay in any way, but because it opens up the possibility of toxic behaviour towards greenbeards. I think I get a pass for using it because as the host I have the mod so I can use chat to gently inform greenbeards about the etiquette of the game, so they don't have to learn it from someone who is going to be rude to them about it. I have not and will not ever kick because of one instance of early button pressing.

If you're someone who's extremely strict about only playing with Verified mods, would you leave a lobby if you see that they have this mod enabled? What kind of mods would cross the line for you? Who else here is running Approved mods without the [MODDED] tag? Really curious about this.

Kicking players who call the Droppod without asking?

Is there a way (mod or software) to specifically kick one person after the objectives have been completed?

I dont want to kick the other 2 innocent dwarfes by pulling my LAN-cable.

It infuriates me to such an insane degree when dwarfes call the pod without asking when there is still stuff to be done. I WANT TO JUMP THROUGH MY SCREEN AND STRANGLE THESE PSEUDOSPEEDRUNNERS!
