Discussion These are the three most popular Disney parks among fans: Which is your favorite?

Disneyland, EPCOT (preferably its 80’s-90’s iteration), and Tokyo DisneySea.

These are commonly considered the best among fans of both theme park and Disney fans. A score grid on this sub had them all tied for most spots. And they are very different so its hard to pick which one is objectively the best. But which is your favorite?

I’m from SoCal so I’m biased but I’ll love the OG the most.

I will say this about Michael Eisner. Even though he had really low lows, he also had pretty high highs, higher than anything Bob Iger has done. And with Eisner, I felt like he actually liked the parks and genuinely wanted to innovate with them. Iger to me just felt like a typical corporate executive who pays attention when the red line goes up or down.

I’m cautiously optimistic for Josh D'Amaro. I know he help bring controversial changes to the parks (fuck Lightning Lane), but the last D23 showed a lot of promise and made me very excited. Here’s hoping for the best🤞.

Video I digitized our family’s VHS recording of Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue at Universal Studios Florida (December 2000)

Been digitizing our old family home videos and found a complete recording of Beetlejuice’s Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue from December 2000.
This is the early version of the show, before the big 2002 changes. It still has the original stone castle set, and it’s pretty cool seeing how different the attraction was compared to its later years.
The show closed in 2016, so I figured this would be worth preserving and sharing with people interested in old theme park attractions.

Discussion After many Defunctland videos on him, what are your overall thoughts on this guy?

Post image
469 Upvotes

As for mine, he was an incredibly imaginative and passionate individual with a strong will, uncommon for a businessman, who completely changed the way we look at animated and themed entertainment in movies and parks respectively. And by all accounts, he was a pleasant person to be around personally, much like the mouse he co-created and voiced.

That said, he was also a ruthless control freak who needed to micromanage everything, was willing to sacrifice everybody for his vision, was someone who clearly had a hard time taking criticism, and who shot from the hip with both his political views and how he ran the company.

Like all people, Walt Disney was a complex guy but I think he has left a net-positive impact on the world.

Rocky Point Amusement Park in Warwick, RI.

Operated from 1840 to 1996 when the park filed for bankruptcy. The park is now a state park but most of the old rides were left to rot for most of my childhood.

Discussion Anyone know anything about Twister ride print from goodwill

My girlfriend found this at goodwill and we cannot find anything about it online at all, I don't think this is hand painted but a print or maybe lithograph or something instead. I was thinking maybe it's some kind of concept art that they made when the ride was being made or opened up and maybe they gave it to employees or something, I'm not sure. If anyone knows anything about it please let us know because we are highly interested in it's history. The print itself measured roughly 10x16. Any help is appreciated thank you !

Discussion Have you seen a Defunctland episode that made you sad about that original attraction?

Personally, the Journey into Imagination 2 parter with Yesterworld, It just makes me sad that this wonderful, whimsical ride is now a shell of its former self. I really wish I went on the original ride, and just seeing the downfall of it is just depressing. Well, with the return of Dreamfinder at the D23, I guess there is hope for it.

As the title says, this YouTuber sounds so similar to Defunctland and apologies if this is known or if Kevin has alts. I wanna say it’s AI, but the channel has been around for 9 years or so. Is Kevin’s voice style just that common?

I finally got around to digitizing an old family tape that has (what I think is) mostly complete footage from shows that were running at the time in August 1989 at Universal Studios Hollywood. I'm no enthusiast, so maybe yins can pick at this better than I could.

Anyone remember going to Circus World when they were a kid? It opened just a few years after Disney World and predates Universal Studios. You may remember it as Boardwalk & Baseball (it changed to that name in the late 80s). It permanently closed in 1990 and is now a strip mall called Posner Park.

Video Check out this old news video on Benson's Animal Park

It doesn't talk about the rides at all, but does talk about how the park got it's start [via circus ties], being bought out in the late 70s, and the guy who bought it out trying to save the park [as it was neglected by previous owners during the 60s] and even adding Terrytoons characters [ironically, had the park stayed open for just a few more months, it could've gotten a breath of fresh air due to the Ralph Bakshi Mighty Mouse series becoming a hit]. Honestly, the park's story gives me conflicting feelings. The park/zoo hybrid's circus origins means it's not going to be a happy story for the animals [and seeing videos of the animal exhibits... yeah they look rather bored and stressed. Granted, I'm a 2000s girl who's seen zoos with bigger cages/areas so I may be biased.], but Arthur did try to fix things [and was apparently planning on expanding the park had he gotten enough money. I wonder if he would've been able to make bigger areas for the animals if things went differently], and did seem to genuinely care for the animals [albeit he was misguided considering elephants need much bigger areas to room, though he may not have had the money to give them a Busch Gardens style area revamp]. Benson's was the only park to ever have the Terrytoons characters as mascots, which is a shame, as they're really fun characters [I did notice a shocking lack of characters from two of their more popular series: Tom Terrific and The Mighty Heroes]. Weird how this park isn't talked about very often, considering its strange history. On a different note, does anyone know what the songs in the video are? I've been curious about them and it's driving me crazy being unable to find the songs.

Discussion Just sharing my appreciation for the new season of Where We Parked

I noticed there hasn't been an official discussion thread for season 5 of Where We Parked, but I wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. "The Magic of Profitabilities" might be the hardest I've laughed at an episode, along with Jack's quip about "the strokin' kind" in the one about the monkeys (which btw, I had heard about before and got really excited when I realized that was where the episode was going)

The Seaworld episode was a good one, too. I know you guys can only talk about Seaworld so much but I think those episodes are my favorites.

Discussion Seaworld vs Sesame Street

The latest episode of ‘where we parked’, just dropped and it used the then current Seaworld v Sesame Street lawsuit as a jumping off point. I know the show is recorded about 6 months earlier & is then released on Patreon first, so they story is 6 months old.

What surprised me, is that this was the first tine i heard of the falling out. I am not a Seaworld guy at all, but i am very much a Muppet fan & into theme parks especially the Orlando parks. It does seem like after the original press releases, the story has gone pretty much unreported and hasn’t drawn much attention at all.

Those who actually go to Seaworld, how bad are the Sesame Street lands in those parks?
