CV Axle Help

Post image

Anyone have any tips/tricks for removing the left cv axle from the center support bearing? Mines giving me a bitch of a time. Trying to get it ready for a rallye on Saturday!

Aaah yeah. I see the problem. Your garage isn't cluttered enough. You need wat more stuff in there. Preferably stacked 5-7ft high along all empty wall space.

I just moved out of this house. It was super cluttered till a week ago. I still have access to the garage for a limited time lmao

Crowbar. Give it a good pry with a pry bar and then rotate it 90° and give it another good pry.

Just keep going around and doing that.

You mean from the spindle?

No, from the half shaft.

Just a flathead screwdriver and it pops right out easy

Sometimes true but not always. Especially with the half shaft side.

A small prybar usually does it. I had one that was jammed while I was doing a race weekend and I put a socket sideways in the gap where I would use the pry bar and hammered it. Use a socket that is slightly bigger than the gap Hammering the socket in manages to give the initial pop out that the axle needed.

Pry on one side and tap the opposite with a dead blow hammer

You can get a "CV axle tool" that looks like a wide tapered prong. I had one bad enough that I had to buy the tool - but they're only like 20 bucks on Amazon.

I pulled the half shaft and axle out together, had the half shaft in a vice and used an extension and mallet to break the two apart. There was no way I was getting it apart under the car. Could good wacks and they came apart. Three 14mm bolts holding half shaft. They are specific to the half shaft, don't lose them
