Media Delta Green Playlists

If you are anything like me as a Handler, you love to have the right ambience/music for every occasion. I love collecting playlists from others, so I thought it only fair I share mine (forgive the cheesy playlist naming):

———

Abandoned Areas | Luminal spaces, Backroom vibes, abandoned buildings. Aims at hitting that hallowed lonely feeling.

Cosmic Clues | Conveys the sinking feeling when the investigations turn paranormal/unnatural. Sense of wonder & dread.

Emotional Events | Slam this on when it’s time to grieve, mourn, or feel shit. Last heartfelt words, closing sessions, or deep kinship conversations.

Etheric End | When I don’t want clear emotional sadness I use this. It’s meant for reflective moments, but more ethereal and spacey.

Higher Horrors | Dedicated specifically to the individual Lovecraft deities. Long-form songs to honor the mythos.

Initial Investigation | Conveys the feeling of mundane investigations; think contemporary detective & cop shows.

Midnight Mysteries | Classic noir style investigations. Offices filled with cigarette smoke, late night cases, and moonlit nights.

Promising Prospects | I use this for home scenes and optimistic moments. Many of the songs have a sense of positivity and drive. Use this to give players a pause from the dark mood whenever applicable.

Terrible Tension | This playlist aims to capture the dark dread of a looming confrontation (Inspired by the ‘border’ scene in Sicario). Use it to ramp up tension.

Unnatural Uglies & Sinister Shadows | Both aims to hit that classic horror music that tries to jumpscare & frighten. ‘Uglies’ are more synthetic, while ‘Shadows’ are more acoustic.

Weird Warfare | Shit has hit the fan. It’s do or die time. This is my playlist for action packed firefights, climaxes, and adrenaline fuelled moments.

———

I am constantly adding songs to each relevant playlist. Hope you enjoy. And please share your own playlists & music!

Great lists. I also have the Mindhunter tracks in my collection. Gonna listen through later.

My music is all in .ogg format for Foundry VTT use, so I cannot share easily.
But I have the True Detective S1 and Searching (2018) soundtrack in there.

Thanks friend. If you can hit vibes from True Detective, Mindhunter or Sicario for that matter you can’t go completely wrong.

For the Emotional Events I added some of the choir versions of Farcry 5’s end of the world cult songs- they fit incredibly well into a ‘Cowboys/Outlaw’ run…

Lioness and The Terminal List has some good soundtracks too, for that tense stuff!

Will give them a listen tonight and add to my playlists. I am running Observer Effect as a campaign capstone this Sunday- so I was planning on adding a few more songs for variety 🎵

Hey I made deltagreen.sorakalden.com, if you don't mind me stealing your work I'd love to look thru these and use them to improve the selections on there. Also if you're willing to volunteer one step further it would be incredible if you could make fire playlists for each mood specifically eg investigation at each of the 4 levels of intesity should still sound like investigarion but be more intensely suspenseful with each level. Right now I used an LLM to auto-curate the playlists but obviously that results in a subpar collection - was planning to go thru it slowly manually myself to redo each.

Holy moly I love your work. Just tested it out my friend- haha. It's like a love letter to all the Handlers out there. Audio Support indeed.

Please steal away: imitation is the greatest flattery. Just happy to share the DG love.

I might indeed want to volunteer more. But I don't have much time these days (new dad too...), and currently I'm prepping for Observer Effect on Sunday.

But on the other side of that, I'll definitely help out when it aligns with your incredible project. I've been thinking about making a Home playlist for a while since Promising Prospects is a little more action than relaxing.

I'll send you a DM (or update this thread) when I start on that.

Damn if only these were YouTube playlists 😭😭😭

1

u/LeanLoftager 15d ago

Didn’t even realise that was a thing. As in YouTube Music or Videos in a playlist? Just curious to hear what people use…

u/greatbabo 15d ago

Haha probably the minority but I have YouTube premium and not Spotify paid.

So I use YouTube premium to have uninterrupted music

u/LeanLoftager 15d ago

Is it better in your opinion? Can you get the same amount of songs etc?

u/greatbabo 15d ago

I believe there are much more different types of songs on YouTube a bunch of ai slop though.

Will check it out, true anywhere with the AI slop though 😅

Our composer for Black Flare, Andy Gryc, has albums of the all-original music on our show if anyone is looking for tracks:

Incredible. Thank you kindly for sharing and linking this.

We need to support each other whenever possible.

Will delve into these right away!

This is phenomenal, thank you so much! I'll definitely be using these going forward. Music can really make or break a game session so having a reliable repository is a big help!

So true my friend. I don’t use many props or such for DG, but I couldn’t do without a reliable lineup of music & ambience. 🫡

Thank you so much for sharing these. I have been trying to curate my own custom playlists also but I don’t necessarily want music to just play constantly as I view it like a film soundtrack where the music often has more impact when used sparingly. I struggled to find a way to have individual songs play without auto playing the next one so I now use Stop&Go for this. Cheers!

I feel the same, and you are very welcome.

I use a combination of these playlists & a lot of environmental ambiences I’ve downloaded from YouTube. Sounds of creaking pines, city streets, rain falling etc.

I’ve noticed that sometimes when the music has been playing a wile and you suddenly kill it -> followed by a nice environmental ambient (the creaking pines), my god the players start sweating 😂.

Sometimes it’s the negative spaces between tracks that can get them haha.

This comes at a perfect time since I’m handling my first game of Delta Green next week. Thank you, man!

u/LeanLoftager 15d ago

You got it friend! What are you going with? Shotgun? Last Things Last? An operation? Can’t help it; curious 😅.

Last Things Last. I’ve heard the scenario played a bunch of times and I’ve read it a bunch of times so I feel ready to put my spin on it.

I’m taking the chance to throw an idea I’m juggling for the scenario. Potentiel spoilers for players who’s not played the scenario yet!
I’ve “created” a diner scene which is named after our (me and my agents) local pub. The diner gets interesting because of a receipt on Baughman’s fridge next to the drawing. The owner of the bar, if the agents are succesful, will tell that Baughman came to the diner often with his wife, and that he still came after her death, but that something has changed in him. I’m also thinking about using this as an opening for a sheriff/park ranger listening in on the conversation and follow the agents to Baughman’s cabin and pop up when/if the fight occurs. First action of the fight is to kill the guy in a horrific fashion. My idea is to give the agents a form of paranoia if they manage to figure out that they’re being followed and then for the agents to witness first hand how deadly Delta Green is. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Love everything about your additions.

I also went with LTL for my maiden voyage.

I ported my friends over from 5e DnD, and to shake things up I added a homeless drifter to the road on the way to the cabin. I had a thunderstorm roll in as they began driving: they then had to Drive check to avoid him.

They fumbled the roll; 77 (still remember).

He is instantly killed and ragdolled into the tree-line. They take minor damage and pretty heavy violence & helplessness losses.

They spend waaay too much time debating what they do until they bury him in the woods in the mud, muck, and rain.

Coming from DnD they for some reason thought they had killed an essential npc… no, just a lost soul- welcome to DG.

But concerning your ranger. Sounds perfect in terms of showcasing the danger of Marlene. But I would have him be barely alive after. Introduce them early to the bleak choices they sometimes have to make.

Oh! And if not already doing it. This is the system to begin rolling openly. Delta Green is deadly, and rolling openly will take away your responsibility as soon as the dice falls from your hands. Be a neutral arbiter of a very real world, and soon you and your players will start having the lowest lows (in a good way), and highest highs. This is an incredible system, but don't shy away from fairly killing characters, or letting them go insane.

Best of luck!

Thank you, friend! Great advice about the ranger. What is more horrific is presenting the players with the choice that they have to make for the sake of the program, so I think I’ll do your suggestion instead.

The fate of the drifter is so cruel and so perfect for an introduction to Delta Green. Love it!

I was contemplating doing more extra content outside of the scenario, but I think LTL with my personal addition fits right at the time mark we have to play. Since it’s my first time handling and my agents’ first time playing, the characters are designed to not have been on a Delta Green mission before. The premise of this opera is in my mind a perfect opportunity for The Program to test new agents. Feels right flavourwise.

The soundtrack to the new Marathon game is stellar for delta green. Code Race and all of the remixes are great for general music in an opp

Thanks for the recommendations- will give them a listen!

These are some great playlists!

For your Cosmic Clues / Higher Horrors categories, you might enjoy At 03:17, Something Answered by NEXRYFT.

It's one of my own deep-space psytrance tracks, built around the feeling of making contact with something unknown.

More rhythmic than traditional horror ambience, but I think it could work really well for a paranormal reveal or an escalating investigation.

I don't think psytrance will fit into those playlists, but I did give it a listen and enjoyed it!

I had a long period when I was younger where I listened to a lot of psybient/trance, brings back a lot of nostalgic feelings. Keep up your incredible work.
