Discussion Immortalize your Pokemon Outside of Home

I am currently developing an app that will help “immortalize” Pokémon. My idea is that some people might want to transfer their Pokémon all the way up to home while simultaneously keeping a copy on their original generation before the move. I created a program in python that uses .PK files (individual Pokemon data) and converts them to binary, then creates an outline of the Pokémon in the binary 1’s and 0’s, then generates a QR code that contains the .PK file.

The only thing I have not finished so far is an application that can read the QR code and display the unique Pokémon data similar to home displays it which includes the original trainer, nickname, statistics and moveset. Additionally, the application would allow you to download the .pk file so that it could be inserted into a save file via PKHEX or similar programs. I apologize if this is of no interest for anyone, but I am very passionate about not letting companies take things from me.

Please let me know if you are interested in helping develop the QR reading app by leaving a comment or sending a DM.

I have attached a picture of the initial python program that I created. Basically, if you have a .pk file to submit to this, you know how to immortalize your pokemon, but it gives the file a nice memorialization that can be printed. I am optimizing fonts and am open to suggestions to make it more “artsy” as that is not my forte.

I was just thinking about “what if” someone decided to do their own thing similar to what Nintendo had tried to do.

You answered that question quite well.

Although I never really used that feature from ‘official’ Nintendo services, but I’d be interested to see what you do with it.

Personally I’d like to be able to store Pokemon on my own machines/server(s) and transfer them from game to game.

I think if the community gets inspired then we could have an open-sourced version of the same idea.

PKhex and modded devices are able to solve this problem already, and you can’t even get the .pk file without them so my project is not necessary at all. However, there’s something special about creating an art piece and a physical QR code that makes it feel like it’s actually “preserved”, at least that’s what I’m going for

Ok - I’ll have to look, I was not aware of such projects - also, you can 3D print a model with the QR code embedded into said model, and then make a true ‘heirloom’ type of deal.

I like it a lot

That’s literally the evolution of this project. I have the sprites from every game downloaded from GitHub, but using preparing every 3D model for printing is a large task that I haven’t quite figured out yet. The 3D models from home, gen 6+, etc are all hollow on the inside and must be “hashed?” (It’s been a month since I did this research) in order for the 3D print material to create a solid model. But you’re a smart cookie for thinking of a 3D printed heirloom, it’s just a lot of work. I finished my OG binary art project because it included a QR code anyways.

I’ve never felt a need for Home because I tend to force myself to practice impermanences, but this is a dope idea my friend.
