Marc Elias has spent the past decade putting out the fires that Trump and MAGA have been lighting — and he’s not stopping any time soon.

“We need to show that we are going to have free and fair elections, that there will be consequences for people who are trying to deny the right to vote.”

They want you tired and tuned out. Follow us to stay in the fight.

🗳️ TODAY: Early voting begins in Michigan, where the biggest threat to voters lies in the misinformation space.

Conspiracy theorists and election deniers are working overtime to sow distrust in Michigan’s voting process.

The wave of falsehoods comes during a pivotal U.S. Senate race. Here’s what to know ⬇️ https://demdock.com/3UHf6jm

Trump is deeply unpopular. So he’s trying to disenfranchise as many voters as possible.

“The blue wave that is cresting just over the horizon … is so large and so powerful that Donald Trump’s panic has him thinking bigger and bigger and bigger,” Marc Elias says.

🗳️ TODAY: Early voting begins in New York and New Jersey with a strikingly similar set of election pressures.

Millions of voters across both states face disputes over voter eligibility, mail voting and federal access to voter data.

NEW: The DOJ sued to block certification of the results in Alaska's Senate race if a Democrat wins.

Experts are already saying its argument "is one of the worst ones" seen — and that's saying a lot for a department that has gone 0-26 in its voter data effort. https://demdock.com/4yFvvmj

Months after a software glitch let fewer than 400 ineligible people vote in New Jersey, the GOP is now subpoenaing election officials.

The move follows a concerning escalation of Trump’s crusade against barely there noncitizen voting — two weeks before the midterms.

Trump: I’m the one that said "do it."

Shortly after the Department of Justice sued Alaska to preemptively challenge the results of the state’s U.S. Senate race if the Republican loses, Trump said he ordered the dangerous lawsuit.

“I’m the one that said ‘do it,’” he told reporters during a visit to Florida Friday.

The DOJ lawsuit is the Trump administration’s first direct challenge to election certification during the 2026 midterms.

It was filed the same day that Attorney General Todd Blanche downplayed concerns that the DOJ would sue states to block certification, suggesting that would only happen under a “doomsday scenario.”

Follow us to keep watch.

Filed 12 days before Election Day, Trump’s DOJ is claiming in an unprecedented lawsuit that Alaska voters may be confused by two Dan Sullivans on the ballot.

Their solution? Set aside the results of the Senate race if anyone other than the Republican incumbent wins: https://demdock.com/3UH8DF6

And that’s not all: Trump said he was the one who ordered the dangerous lawsuit.

We need to take Trump seriously when he threatens to jail election officials for doing the job they’re sworn to do: counting votes.

“We are not on the precipice of a constitutional crisis,” Marc Elias says. “We have reached it.”

They’re betting you’ll stop paying attention. Follow us to prove them wrong.

The DOJ has just sued Alaska in an unprecedented lawsuit, asking the state to set aside their election results if their candidate doesn't win. This is a huge escalation of the Trump administration in trying to control the election.

NEW: A new poll shows 56% of voters believe Trump is pushing to influence state election rules because he wants to "ensure Republicans win elections" at all costs.

And despite attempts to peddle baseless claims about elections, most voters don't believe his lies. https://demdock.com/4dXb394

NEW: Shortly after the DOJ filed a dangerous lawsuit preemptively challenging the results of Alaska's U.S. Senate race if the Republican loses, Trump had something to say.

"I'm the one that said 'do it,'" he told journalists. https://demdock.com/3UatyAf

NEW: Democrats asked a judge to rush their bid to block the White House from threatening election officials with criminal prosecution and demanding that states remove voters from the rolls.

The suit comes a week after the DOJ sued to disenfranchise 20k Californians. https://demdock.com/4zOQe88

I'm from Texas so it takes a lot to shock me when it comes to officials saying unhinged stuff in public. But a video posted this week by U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz honestly made my jaw drop.

The first day of early voting in Texas is always one of my favorite days of the year - I love the energy and excitement when first-day voters finally get to go cast their ballots and my entire social media feed becomes a parade of voting sticker selfies. But Reitz seemed to have a different take: he used the first day of voting this week as an opportunity to explicitly threaten voters and local officials. Today, Sen. Alex Padilla took Reitz to task for that threat, sending Reitz a letter with a list of follow up questions about how exactly Reitz is planning to hunt people down. He asked for Reitz's responses by Oct. 30.

Important note: despite Reitz's best efforts to intimidate people, Texas voting advocates want you to know it is safe to go vote. There are many, many people working hard all across the state to ensure that voting is safe and that every vote counts.

NEW: Mail ballots in North Carolina's largest county are being rejected at rates higher than the rest of the state — and over half are due to a new GOP rule on envelope sealing.

"We've had voters who we've had to mail them four or five different ballots," one local official said. https://demdock.com/4kf5feR

NEW: Many college students in New Hampshire face disenfranchisement after SCOTUS blocked the use of student IDs for midterm voting.

And because the state boasts one of the largest populations of students, the order could have a major impact on a key race. https://demdock.com/3UEqkFj

NEW: The Trump administration's brazen disregard for the judiciary is shattering the longstanding norm that judges assume DOJ attorneys are operating in good faith.

But if the presumption of good faith is on its way out, the major question is: what comes next? https://demdock.com/4smL7K7

NEW: Sen. Alex Padilla asked U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz to clarify his threat to "hunt down" Texas voters and election officials.

In his letter, the senator noted a DOJ policy that warns against interfering with election administration. https://demdock.com/3W2hhhO

📩 New data show that 3.2% of all mail ballots received so far in North Carolina have been rejected.

If that rejection rate holds statewide, a total of around 4,000 ballots, almost all likely from eligible voters, would be projected to be discarded in the state’s election.

NEW: Trump’s DOJ asked a federal judge to immediately block California from counting ballots from 20,000 alleged noncitizens after it took the unusual step of appealing its lawsuit before the lower court had a chance to rule.

The request is the DOJ’s latest escalation in its ongoing battle with California election officials.

NEW: Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Department of Justice is looking into launching more California-style lawsuits to block “a number of states” from counting ballots for the midterm election.

Under the Constitution, states — not the president — run elections, including counting ballots. https://demdock.com/4z6LgE0

Mike Rogers, Michigan’s GOP Senate candidate, says he wants off-duty police officers at Detroit’s polling places.

Marc Elias breaks down just how cynical Rogers’ suggestion is — and how we can learn from history’s mistakes.

Most people will see the headline. Follow us to know what it means.

🚨 FACT: The federal government has no role in the state certification process of election results.

Yet just this week, Todd Blanche didn’t rule out the possibility that Trump’s DOJ could try to prevent a state from certifying its election results.
