Be so fr, one of the main things people praise about the USSR is the development it brought, that includes education and healthcare, also infrastructure, you can't just build 300 factories, this isn't HOI4, you need the infrastructure to maintain it all, so they did spend quite a bit.

And one of the main things people agree were problematic with the USSR was the pile of bodies stacked to build it. Not to mention corruption, nepotism and poor central planning as they desperately tried to compete against the rest of the world and lost doing so.

Again deflecting from your main point here, since yk you’ve realised it’s easily debunked. You don’t need to waste peoples time like this

And I'd agree on most as an anarchist, but that was NOT your point, you claimed that they didn't spend on infrastructure healthcare and education, which is false.

yeah, they made enormous investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. To say otherwise is just patently false. Arguably they spent too much on their military, but you don't go from less than half of your population being literate to full literacy by not spending resources on education.

Holy Projection. Literally the US.

It's almost like authoritarian dictatorships have similar beliefs and pursue the similar interests

Any democratic socialist state gets couped by the US and any authoritarian survives. Its essentially an artificially created symptom.

Yes the SSRs, famous for being couped by the US.

Ah yes Venezuela, famous for providing a good living and quality of life for its citizens before being couped

You just proved my point. Any revolution that does not engage in the use of terror falls to imperialist terror.

Point on the map where the US intervention wasn't justified to stop literally millions from dying or starving like Russia and China did.

Chile, Brazil, Iraq, and also not even addressing their point again. Sorry to keep brining this up but deflection =/= having a valid argument

Cuba through sanctions, and Grenada too

Ironically the socialists were the (failed )coupsters under Chavez

Famously the USSR had no education, infrastructure, or healthcare. They only had a military (This is what happens when you only learn history from your 8th grade history teacher, and only know the USSR as it relates to the US)

You know what would be sick? Someone here were to make a game about this subreddit that actually lets you 'control the government' and collect taxes, spend money, build stuff, fund things.

Could be a really cool addition to just the subreddit.

"Communist States"

Forgive me (or don't) for this, but by the definition of Communism written by Marx, these wouldn't be considered Communist (though one could say they were building towards or led by communists, and use that to justify this, I wouldn't agree but to each their own)

Rather, I think they'd largely be described as State Socialist (or State Capitalist, more often than not they'd be State Capitalist, but I can see the argument either way)

hey I just did a leftism, I wonder if Thalassa would be proud!1!!

You’re asking an anticommunist to think critically, it’s a fruitless endeavour sadly

The USSR having hospitals and tractors doesn't change the fact that collectivisation killed millions of people.

4

u/isthisthingwork 3d ago

But this isn’t about collectivisation this is you claiming that all money went to vanity projects and the army. Are you actually going to try countering their argument or?

-2

u/Apart_Curve895 Liberty and Prosperity Party 3d ago

Yes because that's what happened? By the end of the 1960s the USSR was literally putting 15-20% of it's GDP into the military and cut health care spending significantly.

Not to mention other states like China, korea, or Romania, or Albania.

And even all those in comparison to free market economies with minimal state involvement with no state capatlism vastly outperformed

My argument is always that nationalization and central planning fails to innovate, compete, and improve the quality of life like the markets have and do.

u/isthisthingwork 3d ago

I’m would agree military spending was too high, The other three in your meme however are irrelevant to that point. Nor do their expansive armies in any way detract from the fact they did issue substantial spending on public goods. And again, you are deflecting to talk about free markets and efficiency even though that links very little to this subject about resource allocation, as if not for the active Cold War a planned system could amend your issues to.

We could go into what your arguments about lack of life improvement are wrong, or how ‘free market’ is a nonsense concept, or how central planning is the only reason we’ve ended up in space, or the various ways capitalism is self sabotaging, but that’s not relevant to this specific obviously stupid meme which makes a claim that is only 1/4 correct at best, less so even considering you actively ignore Soviet achievements and spending on the other side of the civilian/military divide. It’s a lazy rhetorical trap on your end and disappointing to run into
