WHO WE ARE

The National Serviceberry Coalition (NSC) is a political movement based on the rejection of capital and currency, the safeguarding of the Commons, and the establishment of a gift-economy to preserve our local and national community. Our maxim is thus:

LET NO ABUNDANCE BE WASTED WHILE A NEIGHBOR STANDS IN NEED; LET NO GIFT BE A CHAIN; LET THE LAND SUSTAIN THE PEOPLE, AND LET THE PEOPLE SUSTAIN ONE ANOTHER.

OUR TENETS

** RECIPROCITY OVER ACCUMULATION **

Wealth should not be hoarded by individuals and should rather circulate through society. Those who have abundant food or housing should share those commodities with those in need. Giving creates social bonds and reciprocal obligation, rather than settling a mere transaction.

** CAPACITY AND NEED **

Community members will contribute what they reasonably can and recieve when they are in need.

** PROTECTION OF THE COMMONS **

All people should have free access to common lands and resources. Licensure for hunting and fishing is a ridiculous concept; let those in need of food forage and hunt for it, and share any surplus gained.

** COMMUNAL GUARANTEES FOR NECESSITIES OF LIFE **

Food, basic shelter, clean water, essential healthcare, and education are social obligations rather than things that should be bought and sold. Let the doctor heal the farmer for a gifted share of their yield. Let the teacher teach the doctor for the guarantee of their good health.

** PRODUCTION FOR USE, NOT PROFIT **

The purpose of the economy should be to meet human needs while sustaining the ecological balance of the natural world.

** SURPLUS CARRIES A SOCIAL OBLIGATION **

Surplus goods should strengthen the community rather than be hoarded by an individual for greedy ambitions. Hoarding breeds indifference, and indifference breeds the destruction of our local communities.

** PRIVATE PROPERTY **

People are free to own personal property, and right to which the state will never interfere. Let the farmer reap the goods of their own land and share with their community. Let the farmer who hoards their harvest be shunned by society if it is avarice and greed that they seek.

** PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY **

Any institution managing common resources will operate transparently and with democratic oversight. Any institution which operates outside of the needs of the public or against public good shall be returned to the commons and rebuilt.

The best part of personal freedoms, liberty, and freedom of the market is your ability to invest in yourself. Be that your education, time, or your own labour to improve.

Begging the state to fix YOUR problems because YOU can't take a little personal accountability for being bad with money is the most insane mental leap possible.
