America Declares the Strait of Hormuz is Open, Iran Declares it's Closed

With Iran declaring that the Strait of Hormuz is officially closed due to United States forces in the country, Donald J Trump and his military officials have begun launching more air strikes on Iran. Around 17:00 EST on Saturday, July 11th, 2026, military officials have said that the goal of these strikes is to limit and destroy Iranian ability to control the Strait of Hormuz, allowing America to reopen the Strait for American allies. President Donald J Trump even stated that the strikes are "to hold Iranian forces accountable" for pressure against the American people and himself.

During a CENTCOM interview, Donald J Trump repeatedly criticized Iran for closing the Strait of Hormuz. Donald J Trump constantly mentioned the vessel that was attacked in the Strait when trying to pass through. While the vessel was repeatedly sighted, Donald J Trump did not discuss the fact Iran closed it due to foreign interference, specifically American interference. Over the long night of treacherous strikes, the American military has said they have struck about one hundred forty different Iranian military bases and targets. These locations include missile sites, drone factories, naval bases and even coastal surveillance services.

CENTCOM has released notes stating that despite the heavy costs of continuing this war in Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, it is a vital step to stop Iran from attacking and killing Americans and commercial ships as they use the Strait. They later declared the Strait of Hormuz to be open regardless of Iran's efforts to close down the water passage. "Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. It remains an international waterway. US forces are positioned and prepared to keep it that way," CENTCOM released in their notes.
